Mine was so gross too. I used oven cleaner, though and it stripped the finish it apparently had on it. I thought it was bare metal from the looks of it, but it was some kind of grey paint. I wound up painting it with paint meant for a bbq.
I have the same stove vent. My problem is how to remove the fans. I clean mine about once a year and I end up using a box of q tips to get each fan part but I want to remove the fan. The whole thing is awkward as I’m short and the stove is in the way so removing the fans would be easier!!!
use engine degreaser - soak the parts for about 30 minutes. Put in dishwasher. Run extra cycle. Use the time to clean where the fans are. If you noticed, your left exhaust vent did not open when activated so it was caked w grease.
You need to check and make sure that the flaps above the fan blades opens when the fans are on. It looked like only the one on the right opened. This is how the air is exhausted.

Awesome job! The only thinking that you should have done is protecting your stove with plastic or newspaper. Other than that, it was great how clean it became and you giving me strengh to clean mine

Looks like you have a Vent-a-hood. I'd recommend periodic removal of the grease catch tray and cleaning that. You did a deep clean, which can be done less often if you are periodically cleaning out the grease catch.
I have and fight a losing battle to clean it. Out hood is from 1968, fan still works but from not being cleaned from then every time I change the filters I try to clean it more underneath but it never looks clean. It is painted. Thankfully it is underneath.
I ordered two 1/8” wrench tools from Amazon. One is 6” long (worked well to loosen the screw) and the other is 7:12 9” long. But even so, couldn’t remove the wheel - it’s really stuck on! 😮

Regarding cleaning in the dishwasher ... the consistency of some of the grime is that of dry glue, like lumps of dry stuff stuck on the surface , it’s hard to even scratch it out with both hands, so dishwasher may not do it! Thx for the suggestion, noted will do without the talk next time!
Jesus christ those fan blades are tiny for that huge range hood! Anyways I'm not a fan of centrifugal range hoods. Grease gets stuck on there very easily
Gross! Some people don’t even think to clean them. Same as your bathroom exhaust fan. Oven cleaner or drain cleaners work really well. No scrubbing needed👍.

You have an older Vent-A-Hood. They're powerful and easy to get apart.

It requires a 1/8" allen key, look in the internet about removing the fan of a vetahood, it's a little tricky

open up a cardboard box and put it over the burners. also, disconnect the electrical to the vents

Use d-limonene (orange cleaner) or superheated steam. Many videos here on YT.

You could put the grey part in dishwasher too- It's dishwasher safe.

Try Super Clean, they sell it at walmart. it would disolve all the hard to reach stuff.

Since you didn't clean the duct, the slime in the duct is going to continue to run down and gunk up everything you just cleaned .
Is it wrong to put the fans in the dishwasher and clean those? Good demo but we want to see how to remove and re-install but not the big talk.
