I hope and fear for a Salamanders praetor ... on the one hand I'd love one for my green boys, but on the other hand I fear one, because I have no idea what they would come up with. That and I somehow dislike the new MkIII armour, for my liking it's to much sculpted and doesn't look like there are just additional plates over a standard power armour (but that's personal opinion of course). That said, I would probably bet on one in MkIII, which in theory is fine and fitting with all the close range fetishes the sallies have :)
All I want in an 18th legion praetor is it to be larger than Fafnir and in very very artificer MKII. I'm prepared to be horribly let down but "dems da breaks"
@@Omega1907 I don't think they'll be getting one because the rumoured vs box with Iron Warriors is supposed to have a multi part praetor. Could be wrong, but that's what I remember from all the rumour dumps
My thing with the pose is that it looks very posy? As if his over half is looking to the right into the distance. But his lower half is in very much a default pose because the propaganda cameraman is just taking a picture of the over half.
Busy, but looks like the sculptor undeniably cared more about the Legion, making it definitely 30K Iron Hands and original. Looks better than the IW model, seems like there's more soul and the proportions are good. I would guess all the extra touches are mandated by GW, remove the cloak (why would an IH have one?) and the mechadendrites and it looks much better
My very first thought after looking it over. It is indeed busy, but the details all fit. It’s my favorite loyalist legion, and I’ve been sitting on a bunch of Forgeworld kits waiting for this moment. At last!
I think this guy's absolutely great. I scratch built two of my own to join the two kits I had and this guy will be a nice further edition. Cyber familiar is neat, too. Busy is good, accurate and standout on a table in a group.
Yeah as soon as I saw it I thought "Mac is gonna think this is too busy" but I also thought I bet the paint job will have a lot to do with that, so pretty good take on it there I'd say. As a model I really like it - shame it's resin because it'l be hella expensive and harder to kitbash but otherwise it'd be a good techmarine or a good forge lord for any legion with some changes to the iconography.
The only part I don't like is the little spider servo skull, the rest is entirely on-brand for Iron Hands. I especially like the way the leg is integrated into the power armour at the top and then has the splayed drednought shaped foot at the bottom.
@@VallornDeathblade Yeah I actually missed that at first somehow! It is explained in the article - "A skulking cyber-familiar lurks on his shoulder, a lesser haemonculite wired directly into its operator's neural centre. It acts as an extension of his will and senses, improving his ability to avoid or deflect incoming attacks." However let's get real here that's a freaking servo skull. I'd hope it's a seperate part you can put on optionally as then you can remove it and I dunno use it for some 40k or necromunda stuff where it belongs.
WTF?! UA-cam not only autotranslated the video title but placed an portuguese AI voice (brazilian here), for the video. . . ohh shit, i can smell the forced censorship coming...

2024 has been a good year for the Iron Hands, one of the best in all honesty. Horus Heresy gets 2 new models, Legions Imperialis gets a formation and a lot of lore, Black Library gives a bunch of stories. 2024 has been good eats.
I love it, definitely overdesigned, and that power Fist looks... off. But I'm very pleased we got a decent model for a legion that actually needs it. Hopefully, we will get salamanders soon!
I feel like with the oily paint scheme of the old iron hands paint scheme, like on the gorgons, it’ll work very well. It’s very busy and very detailed, but I feel like he’d lead my Medusan immortals well
Fingers crossed for RG and Salamanders. As a Dark Angels fan we don't need anything more, but I absolutely love the early Black Books lore for those Legions and they need as big a range as anyone due to their presence in so HH theatres.
Had the exact same reaction when I saw it last night. Glad to see Iron Hands getting this, but there's a lot of visual noise from all the different types of metallics, so I can't tell if I like it or think it's too busy. Seeing it painted with more matte paints might help.
He sounds like a more palatable version of Constantine Valdor, and the resulting silhouette actually looks ok, unlike Mr. Bardiche. Totally agree that some of those parts could really be better used elsewhere in the army, and I wonder if that wasn’t the intent (Legions don’t typically get upgrade kits in the same way 40K chapters do). Only part that doesn’t excite me is the helmet. Doesn’t look anything like Mk3, and I can’t recall seeing anything like it before. Maybe some old Death Guard art? Definitely need to see it in a couple different, simpler paint jobs. These last few Heresy characters have looked exceptionally busy.
Seeing these models is making me hopeful for the heresy releases in 2025, when i saw there was going to be a release every month i assumed it would be some half arsed character or consul for each legion, but the fact these are coming out now makes me think they might have something else coming instead
A few tweaks with the arm such as replacing the power fist with the one thats pointing would giving him a more commanding pose. Leather straps painted metal would make it look less busy. It's like a pollock painting very busy on a bland mini.
I really dig this alot it looks like alot of old iron hands artwork. I'll be honest I'm really tired of thunder hammers. Would of preferred an axe but hey fist will work.
Looks like there’s too sharp of a contrast going on with the metallics. It doesn’t help that there’s a volumetric highlighting going on with this guy, and that they chose a metallic color for said highlight. It all results in a miniature that looks far busier than it actually is. With all the breaks in the armor it just makes it all stand out. I would’ve gone for something a lot easier on the eyes because I’m not gonna lie, my eyes hurt looking at this thing.
That was my thinking. The metallic paints create a lot more visual noise than there really is, and they make up the majority of the paint job. Honestly, the oily black iron scheme they decided on for 30K IHs is a cool idea, but it can make detailed minis look muddy if you're not really careful. It's why part of me wishes they'd just kept them black.
Its not leather straps ya dope, its bionics. They used a deep brass to break up the monochrome color palate. I personally would have used a brighter copper or even gold to break the colors up, but its GW's call. Would have preferred not a power fist and a grav pistol, but hey. Its something right? The cyber spider on his shoulder is neat, and a welcome change from the constant cyber skulls.
I see getting this and the Siege breaker and servo grav pistol and basically swapping the arms between the two for a praetor organising the Battlefield and a gravitat.
With a few swaps, this could work for iron warriors too. Bare head better, yes. There's a bit of loss on the details - the numeral x looks more like a white version of black widow's signature marking, and the gauntlet on belt looks like its fingers have been crushed. Gun looks good. One thing about the pose - looks like gw copied one of those limited edition primaris captain pose(the white-armored ultramarine successor, only he had a plasma pistol instead of grav).
Oh, I was almost definitely using this for a Warpsmith. I think the busy-ness actually works for that. Wrt. the hammer too, I've been uhmming and aahing over it. My opinion is that as a hammer, it's fine - not ideal, but not terrible. It shouldn't be on that model. That kills it for me.
I like this guy, hes a bit busy, yes, but overall it looks nice. He suffers from ugly ass helmet syndrom, in my opinion, but over all i would say this is an 8/10 for me.
I really like it but agrre that its too busy. If i was building it as is id definitely try tone it down, both with the paint job and by changing heads and leaving bits out where possibly when building. Might pick it up for some conversion fodder though!

I really like this model actually, but I do agree it's a more busy one. All the edge highliting and NMM on the trim here, while painted well, is not the greatest of compositions. I personally think that with a decently more muted (and weathered) scheme will make this look fantastic. Keep most of it darker and bright lensen and some small parts of (NMM) reflective metal.
I'd hate having to cut this up to use it for parts, it is just far too busy, same as the last couple of releases... Too much useless bling even for Praetors
