- We are back at the 2005 Cadillac Deville. This time step-by-step replacement on the front disk brake pads and rotors.
Doing this DIY project will give you huge savings on labor.
It is a 3 hour morning job for the average guy. Total Parts cost $65.00 when sourced on eBay. Total Labor savings $300.00.
3 Generations of average guys spend a morning together and share a few stories and laughs while changing the pads and rotors.
The tip on how to tell which pad goes where was very helpful. Some little things that would really have helped are cleaning the new rotors (they often come with grease on them), adding anti-seize to the back of the hub after cleaning it with a wire brush, greasing & cleaning the guide pins, greasing the area where the pads contact the metal clips and using new metal clips. I would never use the clips over again. Just me. Nice job, glad y'all included the bolt sizes!
Replacing the rotors on a 95 cadillac deville
The calipher pins are different. No one mentions this. The upper is smooth/bare at the end. The lower has a rubber cup at the end..
Heads up on rattle, clunking noise you may have over bumps at low speeds...check your caliper guide pin bushings inside the caliper. They may have deteriorated and need replacement. My 97 cadillac deville had this issue and once I replaced them, all you hear now is tires. I already replaced struts, mounts, and sway bar bushings to no avail other than they needed replacement. Ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, and sway bar links were replaced couple of years previously and were good.
use the old inner pad as a buffer to compress the piston. never put uneven pressure on it, it's not like they're made of hardened steel; the older they get, the more brittle the exposed edges and contact face gets. don't pry against the naked piston face OR put a clamp directly on it. If you open the bleeder screw, you can compress by hand. In doing so, you don't force brake fluid back into the abs module, which contains metering, check, and proportioning valves; some of which are actuated via censors. You can damage these components by forcing the brake fluid back against these valves. It's just smarter and easier to crack the screw open, compress the piston, and close the screw. if you are afraid air will get in, then use a hose and cup pre-primed with new fluid.
+jcannoncraig Excellent points. I'm doing the front brakes on a 2000 Corolla soon. Will use the tips. Thanks
A c-clamp is quicker as all you have to do is twist
this is awesome!! we watch UA-cam videos all the time for our car!! I'm so excited to see these ! good job guys. I'll tell people to go to your videos I know LOTS of people who use stuff like this!!
+veldon green Thanks!
+Average Guys Garage love it
Thanks. So glad for you response. We try to show step-by step and the problems we run into.
I like to use the old pad when pushing the piston back in with vice grip
Question what type of brake pads do a 2005 Cadillac deville use?
The brake line has to handle 1000 psi of pressure. Dropping the caliper will not hurt it at all.
IS IT SAME ON 94 FLEETWOOD FRONT BRAKE PADS
What did you film this with? A flip phone.
Breaks are very important. It would be a good idea to follow the manufactures torque specs and make sure to add anti seize to the metal contact areas of the pad so that the pads move freely within the caliper housing.
Brake grease is better anti seize will dry and actually stop the pin from sliding freely. Lots of people says it do not, but I disagree, bottom line something stopped them from sliding and anti seize was all I put on them.
Do you have to bleed the brakes
No
What did you film this with? A flip phone. This guy jacked the car up using the fender. This is why the fender be sticking out on Devilles. You should have put the jack under the frame.
4:17 He is removing the ratchet and putting it back on like a wrench. 4:48 Then he put his head under the fender without a jack stand. Please send the kids in the house. I'm going to love talking about this guy on my channel.
I thought that I was the only one who saw two AMATEURS........... Nuff said.
Great job guys I will do my car soon from this showing/ Thanks!
What size was the caliper bolts
1/2 inch I think?
SAFETY STANDS!!!!
do you guys also play bass and drums on the intro?
+Shawn Marko LOL. No.
Kid needs to use the ratchet wrench!
64ricbon thinking the same thing
Had me triggered
DO NOT use vise grips because you are taking a chance of cracking the edges on the piston, use one of the old pads, lay across the piston and use a C- clamp to SLOWLY push the piston back... And for goodness sake use a wire brush or something to clean the old clips if they are being reused, and brake grease would also help.... btw they're Pads not Shoes...
good video, kinda choppy.
Did not lube guide pins will wear quick..
Nor lube the contact points?
4/5 inch c clamp Would Have been easier to push the piston back in
AND NOW COME AT ME SIDEWAYS...
That was painful to watch, I couldn't even finish.
You failed to bleed and add more brake fluid
the camera man needs work
