  • Marley Shelton [Margaret Henderson] teases Toby Maguire [David] with home-made cookies; seizing-the-opportunity Toby asks Marley on a-date
Marley is gorgeous both in b/w & colour [love the yellow-dress]
At Last rendition is one-of-the-best I have heard.

I’m sad this movie isn’t talked about more. It’s still so relevant.

Had a huge crush on Marley Shelton from this movie back in the day. It was really sad how he left her for the real world in the end. Hugely underrated movie. Made lots of statements about society, was super creative with the visuals, and had great acting/story.

She's gorgeous AF, I'd never leave her. Either I'm staying, or she's coming back to my world. Actually would've been a way better ending if he took her with him back to the 90s.

I like to think he didn't leave for long. He did say he would come back to check on his sister. I hope at least maybe, just maybe he would come back to see her too. And maybe stay, or bring her back with eventually. That's the only thing that keeps me happy. Haha.

This is another brilliant movie with Jeff Daniels Toby Maguire and Reese Witherspoon. Brilliant from every scene and concept. Even the music like in this scene with Etta James amazing blend of Color & Black and white to highlight the story, just brilliant.

I think Marley Shelton (Margaret) would have been a great Gwen Stacey to Tobey's Peter Parker/ Spider-Man! I mean she totally looks the part, plus she and Tobey have wonderful chemistry- as shown here!

I actually appreciate the moment where Betty looks forlornly at the B&W flowers in the window. Before David and Jennifer came to Pleasantville, she didn't realize what she was missing; how beautiful the world could truly be. Now that she's seen color (and is secretly colorful herself), she wishes it were everywhere.

The movie suggests a paradox about our world today…
The past had flaws, changes were needed, and progress marches forward. And yet, we go too far and lose ourselves, our grounding, in the process… become flawed anyway, and ironically look backwards to see that we used to be better in some ways… but can’t get it back.

You have truly understood the movie.
The car is a extremely rare Buick Roadmaster Convertible the car was expensive and the convertible is rare because of the cost to buy one then.
When you look at it there is something extremely special about it indeed.
You indeed have a great eye for cars and the movie itself is very special and it's very rare something magical like Pleasantville happens.

This is a depiction of original sin being introduced to Eden. If strange that some people see the destruction of Pleasantville as some sort of good thing or some sort of awakening ... It's death being introduced to all of them.

They both leave behind what they thought was their ideal world (Pleasantville for him, the real world where she is popular for her) for something else. She wants to stay in Pleasantville where she is smart and doesn't care about what others think of her. He decides to go back to the real world with a new appreciation for the progress that has been made since the 1950s.

Marley Shelton looked less creepy here than she did in Scream 4. Here she's like the cute innocent 50s girl getting a first class trip through the real world, for better and worse. But in 4, she's this creepy doll eyed deputy who has the hots for Dewey and made a lot of people think she was the killer.

i just finished watching eddie murphy's LIFE before this
i noticed when Claude Banks and Ray Gibson walk into the diner
to order a slice of pie
    it says NO COLOREDS ALLOWED
    after watching this movie
i sort of thought it was funny and fitting at the same time
    when, in pleasantville
some of the towns people go COLOURED
i suppose you get rascist and say NO COLOURS ALLOWED hehehe
    or No Reds allowed
    No Blues allowed
    No Yellows Allowed
    etc
    hehe

The whole thing implies that it's transitioning from the late 50s to the early 60s in spirit. These people have just gotten introduced to the free love movement in the span of a half hour.

It never actually says if Pleasantville was a 50s or 60s show. Andy griffith was a 60s show and in black and white for it's moat popular episodes. People just always assume it is 50s.
