Before David Draiman became famous as the singer of the heavy metal band Disturbed, he trained to be a cantor. Now I thought that the original version was good. But the version from Disturbed was the one I listened to and understood the meaning.
Just stunning! Such pretty piano at the beginning and his voice starts off soft and gentle - and then it builds and builds until the passion pretty much explodes all over the place. Love the guitar too. I must have listened to this a dozen times when I first found it. And now that you’ve found Pentatonix, you may want to check out their cover of this song. It’s stunning too in a whole different way. Loved your reaction. Peace …
Not all their music is heavy metal... but All carry a message... you really out to check out some of their videos... they are fantastic.... David is ... just wow. ❤ Hope you will check out more of their songs
Hey, yeah for sure. I haven't heard another thing by them and was really impressed with his strength or grunt on the sound of silence.id love to hear how they are as a band.

I prefer this video over all the other covers. I still get goosebumps every time! I still have the original Simon & Garfunkel vinyl that includes this song, and…yes. I’m that old! I went down the rabbit hole of Disturbed’s incredible videos/live performances. Most the videos are incredible works of art visually as well as musically. Many are not heavy metal, though they are a metal band. Hold on to the Memories and a new duet with Ann Wilson of Heart are must hears.
To this day I tear up every time I hear this....simon , in an interview, about this version said that David did it the way it should have been done and it was now his song.
Disturbed while being "heavy metal" has NO screaming. Outstanding lyrics and SUNG so you can hear the message. Every Disturbed song DOES have a message.
This version is stellar & of course the original is awesome, but you need to hear it by the A Capela group Pentatonix as well. Their harmonies are absolutely the best! All three versions are fabulous & basically like different songs. Like you, I enjoy the original spin on covers.
***** The Warning ***** "And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made." ~ Paul Simon "And the people bowed and prayed, to the golden calf they made." ~ Old Testament
There is a triangle encapsulating peak _The Sound of Silence._ You know the S&G original with its beautiful harmonies. Now you have heard the second, with Disturbed's intense edge added to it, but lacking the harmonies. The third leg is Pentatonix' cover, which restores the harmonies yet keeps some of that edge. I hope it is on your reaction list.⬅ Anyway, more please -- great reaction.
The keys are different: Simon and Garfunkel in D minor and Disturbed in F# minor; if you miss the harmonies, try the Disturbed version featuring Myles Kennedy live in Houston. There's an official video of it as Disturbed included it as a bonus track on their Evolution album.
simon and grafunkle's was more of a sad warning and disturbed's was anger that the warning didna be heeded paul simon told david draiman the song be theirs now
I do not call this a cover song. It is an experience and stands on its own merit. Still giving kudos to Paul Simon but Cover or not. Doesnt matter, It is its own power and emotion. If you don't get chills, or emotional or tears then there is something seriously wrong with
If you want harmonies, try Peter Hollens / Tim Foust or The Hound & The Fox w. Adam Chance - both versions are great. I actually liked this version a lot more than I expected to, but It's not my favorite. I can't fault his voice, but - maybe because it is not a duet - it just doesn't 'do it' for me.

Yes I must examine the lyrics which I never have.thanks for the comment!
I agree with this 💯
David hit a note so pure it actually stopped a pull from the VB 😳🤣
Haha you know it! I was like, wait a minute, what was that 😂
Stunning remake, gives me chillzzzzz...Davids voice is so powerful. Thanx so much, take care, Peace
Hey,cheers so much for the comment.agreed this is an awesome version

Hi thanks for the comment.I’ve tried to but no matter what I do it gets blocked which is a shame as I really enjoy their music.
@cs780 try some of their live events... there are a few that are really good... most are far from the stage.. hope you do find some...
@@cs780 We would love a reaction from you even if we can't see the video, maybe the live performance on Conan O'brien?
Great reaction!!!👍👍👍
Hey cheers for the comment
...went to take a gulp of beer and then David Draiman growled "... like silent raindrops fell"... and you put down the beer. yeah, it's like that.
I found that happened a few times 😉
@@cs780 I think you almost cried at one point. ❤
In case anyone is wondering, the moustache isnt crooked. Its a goatee, but the gray hair on one side is winning the race. Great reaction! Subbed
Hey cheers yellahamma
It has been said that the original was a "warning" and Disturbed's version is anger that the warning was ignored.
Thanks for the comment
You should definitely do more Disturbed reactions! Down With the Sickness is iconic. Indestructible is fantastic and Stricken is a must!
Hey, yeah for sure. I haven't heard another thing by them and was really impressed with his strength or grunt on the sound of silence.id love to hear how they are as a band.

Hey from New Orleans Louisiana USA
Hey Pauline from little old New Zealand.
I LOVE how you had to put your beer back down because the song got so good. 😂❤❤❤❤❤
Didn’t it just Sharon! Takes a lot to make me put a beer down too! 😉🤣
@@cs780 😆😆😆🍻
Love watching the video. Where they writing music notes is so peaceful feeling
Totally agree Pauline.thanks for the comment

Thanks for the comment,it really is a great version
The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is sad resignation.
The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is DAMMIT!
Cheers for the comment
When you took your first sip of beer, I said to myself,'That will be the last until the end of the song'. You almost disappointed me haha
He certainly made me stop and sit up haha
He did this with video/pictures from 9/11. As an American...cold chills.
Wow,I didn’t realise that.much respect.it that context it’s even more moving
@@cs780 It's worth watching even without doing a reaction. Sending warm regards from Kentucky!
If you want harmonies, watch this song live from a Chicago Disturbed concert featuring Myles Kennedy it will blow you away
Hey cheers for that I'll check it out love myles Kennedy
@@cs780 let me know what you think, I watch it over and over
Sorry it was a Houston concert

Excellent reaction 👏👏 I had to subscribe.
Thanks Anna 👍
This is one cover where it was given over to the secondary player..... This is disturbeds song now..,.... The disappointment and anger resonates

Thanks for the comment.yes,a little jumping to conclusions of me to describe them as screamo when I haven’t really heard them.
Can make an Aussie stop drinking his beer 😂. Got to be good 👍
Haha very true 👍

Thanks so much for the comment Cathy .yes the pentatonix version is on my list for next!
Pentatonix is all about "pretty". David is about the true feelings and the meaning of the words.
