@@johnrose5482 I stopped listening to (new) Nightwish for years after Tarja left. I heard a couple of tracks with Annete and didn't buy any albums for 15 years. I have only recently recently started listening to what they have produced since 2005.
Besides discovering Floor, I realized that I badly underrated Annete. Annete was a skilled rock vocalist when she joined, and really grew in her years with Nightwish. If she hadn't followed Tarja and preceded Floor, she would be widely respected as an outstanding vocalist.
Buy Tarja and Floor are not merely outstanding. If you had a top 100 list of best vocalist ever recorded, both of them would be high on the list. I will admit to preferring Tarja - I think that is not just because I heard her first, but because of her natural tonal quality.
I've distilled it into this: Floor is as skilled and talented as Tarja is talented and skilled.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Just a few years ago now,we sadly lost her due to some unforseen illness. Gabriel here has been doing a outstanding job ever since! 👌

Here's something no one else has told you. This woman's voice can cure cancer, and I am the living proof.
I discovered this band while undergoing treatment for stage 4 colon cancer. I would listen to Nightwish during chemo infusion treatments. In May of 2022, I saw them perform live in Chicago. I stood twenty feet away from Floor Jansen and her Nightwish brothers. Her voice shook my body.
Six weeks after that show I was declared cancer free.
This band saved my life.

I mean, that's something I can truly believe. I've seen her do things which aren't exactly natural for a human being to do, so it wouldn't surprise me if she can also cure cancer tbh. Btw, Congrats for having the courage to go through the journey, for your resilience, and for killing the beast!

You have now been introduced to our 6 foot Dutch Valkyrie Queen, Floor Jansen. One of the most incredible, versatile voices on the planet and one of my favorite bands. Their music is generally classified as symphonic metal. If you want a real treat, look at I Want My Tears Back live from the decades tour in Buenos Aires. The crowd was insane and Floor dances a jig onstage. Plus you get to hear the sixth member, Troy, on the Irish Bagpipes. Yes, I said bagpipes!!!

The best female vocalist of this generation. This woman can sing everything. Even phone books. From growling to highes notes. This woman is perfection and at the same time absolutely down-to-earth and lovable.
Growling plus a little bit of Opera. Check out her cover of 'O Mio Babbino Caro', she sang that Aria all alone before she was in Nightwish. :)
There's a clip when some radio station asked her about that statement with the phone book. Floor asked for a phone book and sang part of it. It sounded good. Q.E.D. 🙂

I've followed Nightwish from the start, and first time i saw them live was in 98 or 99. I thought Tarja Turunen has an amazing voice. When Tarja left the band, i thought Nightwish is done, they can't replace her. I was young, stupid and i thought i knew everything about music. Then Floor arrived and changed everything and helped Nightwish reach their full potential. I can't listen to old albums from Tarja's era without shame and embarassament. Over hyping leads to worshipping mediocrity

Hello dear reactors. Nightwish is symphonic metal band from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) is our metal Mozart who writes and composes this beautiful music. He is our national treasure (I'm from Finland). I have all their studio albums since 1996 and of course this Wacken DVD. I was at their live concert 17th of June this year and I tell you, if you ever have a chance seeing them live, go!
This is the greatest band in the world, with the most humble, and gracious members. The Lead singer, Floor Jansen is and enigmia, she is one of the strongest, most empowered woman in the world, yet she is so kind so shy, so family oriented, and she is an empath she gets her power from the crowd and the people around her, and she is the type of woman that you girls should hold as your role model. She is 6'1" and from the Netherlands, she is married to the drummer of the Swedish heavy metal band SABATON, Hannes van Dahl and they live on a ranch in Sweden with all their horses dogs and cats and two daughters Freya(7), and Lucy(4 mons). Floor and beaten Breast Cancer in 2022 and was back on stage 4 weeks after the surgery. She is a powerhouse, she also does solo work and just released her first solo album "Paragon" in April and it is 180 out from what she sings in Nightwish, it is more soft rock oriented, also check out her appearance on the Dutch singing show "Beste Zangers" especially Phantom of the Opera. Well you finally get to hear one of the best vocalist in the world....period. Floor can sing anything and that is why Nightwish can play anything. She has sung is 6 languages, sung Pop, Jazz, Metal, Rock, and even growls when needed. She is married to the drummer of Sabaton, and has a pair of lungs compared to a deep sea diver and breathe control to die for. Enjoy the journey you just started and Gabriel will give you menu that will keep you busy for a long time with this band. My husband is hoping that Nightwish, Sabaton, Lovebites, and Asterism all meet on the stages of Wacken Music Festival (Germany) next August, 2024. He want Floor (6' 1") and Asami/Lovebites (4' 10") to do a duet together....LOL

I discovered NightWish during the pandemic. They immediately became my favorite band , and I listen to them nearly every day. They are so good with Floor on vocals.

This version of Ghost Love Score is the UA-cam video with the most reaction videos. The song is from 2004 and was originally sung by the first singer Tarja Turunen. This is Floor Jansen, who has been the temporary help here for 10 months and is now the third singer. This version has a changed ending from the original.
The song is one of the last songs of the concert, which is why there is already a lot of crowd surfing. Some people later complained that security allowed too many people in.
Symphonic Metal is typically European and the USA has a hard time with anything that takes place outside the States.
The Wacken Open Air is one of the largest and oldest metal festivals in the world, in Germany, with around 85,000 visitors. The audience in Wacken is special. Many people have been coming to the festival for years and it is characterized by a friendly atmosphere.

All Nightwish Numbers are awesome. Some more then others but even their lesser numbers are better then the best songs of other bands! They have both melodic quiet songs and numbers that just explode from the start, I like to shuffle them on my play list.

Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.

Hi, FYI Floor was a stand-in singer at this time. Even so she had the audience of 82,000+ in the palm of her hand.
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’.
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera).
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’ 'Wild Card' and ‘Disdain’.
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see.
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on UA-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered UA-cam in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish.
Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (turns 7 years next march) and a newborn daughter Lucy ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Hello Ladies, this was song 13 of 15 at this concert and Floor had been singing, head banging, windmilling and dancing for an hour and 10 minutes before this song. All members of Nightwish are great musicians as well as performers.

I kinda feel that you can't go wrong with any song from this concert. It holds the same standard imo as Rammstein live in Paris or New York MSG as one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Though going to some Rammstein concert that blew my mind and also messed up my leg once from all the jumping etc I'm envy all the people who saw Nightwish live at this concert.

"The Queen of Metal"
Ladies, the next one is normally "Storytime" from the same concert in Wacken.
Wacken is a small town, just under 2,000 inhabitants. There is a fun story. When the first festival was to start, nobody realy knew what to expect (it is a heavy metal festival in the North of Germany). It is told, that suddenly motorbikes with wild looking guys and gals thundered into the small, quiet town.
The inhabitants sought shelter against that dangerous looking people. There was a little old lady on her way home from the grocery store, heavy ladden with goods. Suddenly a wild and dangerous looking man, climbs off his bike walks to the lady and says: Madam can I help you carrying yout stuff home??
She was pleased and allowed him to help. That sealed a friendship for years and those "dangeous" people are very welcome to this day. Never was there real violence at this festival, at least to my knowledge. A few accidents, but no violence.
Great reaction ladies. Loved watching you react to Nightwish, especially to our 6' tall Valkyrie Queen Goddess. This was song 13 of 15 in front of 82,000 people.

After you have done this for a while, the singer Floor Jansen has an amazing array of other performances both with other bands, and as a solo artist, and does a wide variety of musical styles that I hope you will check out.

We have all been where you were seeing this the first time, and this band (Nightwish) and lead singer Floor Jansen are so beloved by so many for very good reasons. Every song, every performance, a new story, but always awesome.
Nightwish is an interesting band that went from opera metal with Tarja to a more pop style with Annette and then to a more rock style with Floor. I actually listened to them as far back as when I was in high school. If you like this style you might like Mister Misery, their song Ballad of The Headless Horseman is my go to Halloween song every year.
Remember outro of Christmas truce by sabaton - that was Floor - leadsinger of NW….here you got one of the very best performers of our time. My personal favorite. I am biased.

Now... I recommend starting with the first song of the Wacken 2013 concert -- "Dark Chest of Wonders" -- and just make your way through the set list in order. My very favorite Nightwish songs are in this set list: Ghost River, Dark Chest of Wonders, Ever Dream, Storytime, and Ghost Love Score. Floor Jansen along with the whole band made that concert unbelievably amazing. Divinely inspired performers, all of them.... but especially Ms. Floor Jansen. Goddess, for sure.

At the beginning, mom is all like 😬 not sure what to think🤣 Then the head starts bobbing, and shes hooked though😎 Nightwish is an excellent choice for new listeners to Metal music. It shows how beautiful our music can be.

This concert took place in a small town in Northern Germany called Wacken (pronounced Vah-ken). The town population is a little over 2,000 people but once each year they host one of the world's biggest Heavy Metal festivals and then the numbers swell to about 85.000 people. The flaming bulls head you could see is the logo of the festival
In 2013 Nightwish headlined this festival playing to 82,000 people
May I recommend that you react to another song from this concert called "Storytime". You will see how vast the crowd was in some of the shots in that video, and yes, more crowd surfing! 😂

Consider it Lightning in a Bottle - this particular concert from 2013. Floor is a Master of her instrument and really the reason I showed up today. Ghost Love Score was #13 or 15 on the set list. Other wonderful performance from this show are Ever Dream and Nemo. You'll be encouraged to listen to the entire concert, but unless you're pretty immersed in metal, not all will match this performance.
I don't consider myself a Nightwish fan like the majority of the folks you'll find here. I'm really a fan of Floor's and her solo projects. After first seeing her solo performances from her appearance on the Dutch tv show Beste' Zangers it solidified my fandom of Floor and she introduced me to Nightwish. So, to promote Floor I'm going to take the liberty of posting a selected playlist of live performances that I consider the most enjoyable for me from her catalog of solo projects. It's always so nice to see ppl get blown away by Nightwish.
As I was 1998 when I saw them for the first time live (in Helsinki, Finland). That time it was with Tarja (original vocalist) as the lead singer.
Nightwish music is unique, for me it doesn't matter who of the ladies (Tarja, Anette or Floor) sings, music remains.
But I enjoy most the current vocalist, Floor. Her versatility is mind blowing.

A person's first experience with Nightwish is often an emotional event, and you ladies seemed to have been pulled in just like the rest of us.
Just about any song from the 2013 Wacken Concert is great (pronounced "VAH-ken"... it's a German city with a long history in livestock, hence the Bull-emblem and flaming Bull's Head at the concert site). They are a Symphonic Metal band, with relatively complex writing style and, at times, very deep lyrics. Some sub-themes connect songs (such as those from the Imaginarium album).
For you folks, I might suggest Storytime (from Imaginarium), followed by Dark Chest of Wonders (the concert's opening song).
After that, well, the Nightwish Army will be full of suggestions... all of them good.
