I know you said in the lattice interview that your outdoor climbing videos don’t do well, which bums me out since I love them. But, I appreciate you doing it some times! I’d love to see you l, bobats/dab rats/Erik Karlsson/Emil/etc. do like a documentary or some kind of reel rock style video project!
@@bloodyfitnerd1947 I think there is a subset of his fan base, like us, who are into raw climbing and will watch Reel Rock or Mellow videos but for most people, they may know him through Juji and Tom or through the “professional Climber tries x challenge” and may not be nearly as interested in projecting or outdoor climbing. Not that they should be, they came here for that style of content so when they see a video like this, they may not be as interested and with Magnus exploding recently, I think that maybe part of the reason why they don’t do as well. It does get tedious to see someone fall on the same set of moves over and over again so I think part of it is that it’s difficult for Magnus to balance making videos he likes which pay the bills and making videos he likes which may not pay the bills as readily. I imagine, like a lot of other UA-camrs, sponsorships and merch help pad out for videos which may not get as many views so I hope he continues to see success in that regard so we can continue to see great content like this.
Also love his climbing outdoors content. It's certainly a bummer that they don't do well but I'm happy he still does them from time to time. Thanks Magnus!
@@sethgilbertson2474 I love climbing outdoors but I sometimes dont like outdoor climbing videos because you cant see the holds as good as indoors. Outdoor climbing with big cracks or tufas is great, but crimps that are not already full with chalk are hard to see.
Hey I just want to say that you and Marte have a wonderful looking relationship. I know that a lot of the time editing can make things looking much different than they are but it looks like you too really have fun together and respect each other.
I've calculated the Magnus rating for this video: Magnus refers to how much chalk he uses: 10/10 Magnus keeps his shirt on: minus 2 points Magnus breaks off icicles then takes his jumper off: give two points back Magnus chalks his feet: add 4 points Final rating 14 out of ten, maximum Magnus plus p.s fantastic video too, that scenery is amazing
Seriously though, this is love for and dedication to climbing. Clearing huge icicles from the route, climbing with frozen hands in -10 degree weather, and laughing through it all!
I love the last 2 outdoor videos!! I know setting up outside is harder so you can't do as many routes and/or boulders let alone film it too. But I think most people on your channel just like to watch you. Whether your doing a challenge of some kind, indoor bouldering, indoor leading, or outdoor climbing. Your just a good influencer and you do a good job on the video edits. We will watch you do what ever as long as your still climbing. I miss you hanging out with Tom and Juji the most and can't wait to see the next video with them!
So what are your fav tricks for cold weather climbing? Mine are: *Taping the first two digits of my fingers loosely. It kinda acts as a glove with out sacrificing much sensitivity. * Slightly larger shoes where you can fit a pair of socks in. * Keeping your climbing shoes inside your jacket until it's time to go. Cold rubber means cold feet, poor friction and small shoes. * Chemical hand warmer in chalk bag. * Get screaming barfies once. Let the pump settle (~10 mins) and then go before getting cold. * Jumping jacks or whatev before you go. * Larger harness so you can fit base layers without constricting circulation in the legs. * Keep layers on to overheat your core. Your body will want to cool down by opening the blood flow to your extremities.
Really enjoying these outdoor climbing videos to go along with the indoor videos. And much love to Markus and Marte for enduring the cold and being part of the crew.
There’s a route near me with the name “Butcher of Baghdad,” around the same grade as this one. Seems like a common name for routes after a brief check on Mountain Project. For good reason, it seems.
I love these outdoor climbing videos so much, they are my favourites. Also, the music in this video is something new - I love it!! Thank you for taking me to this adventure with you. Great camera work, Markus, and nice editing. MMM-trio as always very pleasant to watch. Keep it up and stay safe.
Another one for the algorithm, let's keep the youtube gods happy people. Great video as always Magnus and good job to Marte for the great belaying ! Only the very motivated people go out in the minus to climb on rock and its great to follow you guys while doing it. Keep rocking !
Bouldering only a few times in temperatures below zero myself, these videos make my fingers hurt. I actually like winter, but just not freezing my phalanges against cold rock, haha. Your tolerance for suffering is up there.
Some parts of Canada ain't to bad if you go out on a nice day it's like -9 with windshield. So you just have curl up with a winter jacket after a try or a at least that's what I do
Might be my favorite video thus far, great pacing, great perspective, quality footage without feeling staged, and a little adventuresome... I want to climb there, and would be outside now if able.
I just listened to your Q&A with lattice and i get so frustrated that your projecting videos aren’t gettting as many views. I understand it from a PR/regular person point of view but for us climbers (like me climbing 6c+ indoors and 5’s outdoors on lead after about 1,5 years of climbing) you are such an amazing inspiration! Just wanted you to know that!
In an older video, you talkt about climbing Trollveggen (the troll wall). That would be the coolest vlog ever uploaded to youtube. I’m sure Pete mr. wideboy would join you aswell.
Great video! I love your outside climbing videos. I hope you will continue making outdoor videos! The music, the frozen landscape, and just the fact that you're climbing in -13°C makes this video so cool to watch ❄️🤩😎 And big applause to Marte and Markus for enduring the cold weather.
I thought I was brave climbing outside by 2°C on a north face ! But you're a master. Climbing on ice is very scary because it's slippery and your level is a lot worse from what you usually do. So congratulations for climbing an 8a with the cold. You have my full respect (even if you already had it !!). Thanks for this great video, showing that's not impossible. I won't complain of the cold next time ;-)
Love seeing the outdoor climbing videos so I appreciate them when they come! Reminds me of when you started vlogging and took us up all kinds of walls. Hope to see more!
"Morrison hotel" and/or "Miles ahead" would be super to watch! Rumor has it that Robert Caspersen used to do laps on this one for training back in the 90's when he had done everything else around Oslo. Few people did 8a at that time. A super classic, despite its boulderiness!
A few decades ago a boy had a "pocket warmer" ... which is basically a hand-sized little case with "a stick" (no idea what material) that gets burned over time. It was a pretty posh way of solving a "nonexistent" problem that couldnt be solved with better gloves for our school skiing trip. For Magnus climbing in these conditions such an item might be a good addition to the toolset. Even if it is just for emergencies - when the hands get REALLY COLD - it seems like a good idea. Not relying on "technical solutions" might be wiser though, because you are screwed if that should ever fail.

That would make a good vid
"Mixed climbing"? Is that something like "mixed martial arts"? Since you mention Scotland it probably involves skirts and throwing logs too, right?

Marte: “You’re going to have to keep your shirt on”

He only goes climbing in those conditions because he thinks the snow is chalk
Thats the most Scandinavian thing i’ve ever ever seen
Turns around and calmly mentions, "This is the crux" on a 5.13b. Classic.

Magnus, there will always be this subgroup of (outdoor) climbers, that like those kind of videos the most. Thanks for making them!
Too cold for shirtless climbing means the grade goes up by a whole number! 😊
Magnus, I really appreciate your outdoor climbing videos. They also allow to grasp the beauty of the lanscape in Norway. Please continue!
Another video with just stellar music selection. Magnus's sense for overall aesthetics really shining through.

thank you!

Coming soon to Rúngne.... HEATED CHALK BAG 🔥!
I’d buy it
just stick one of those charcoal warmers skiers use in the chalk bag.

And some battery-powered shoes
