Great review sir! Checked out the website and didn’t immediately see a price. My daddy always said “If you have to ask how much it is, you can’t afford it”. 😂

    Thanks for the review!
A couple of things I'd like to mention:
    1) actually you don't need to do anything to the straps to get access to the laptop from the side - nothing blocks it
    2) there is no liner - it's just the inner side of the epx600 fabric

      1. As an owner. Yes, but it’s somewhat awkward. I mean the feel of it. Can’t describe. Better to try. V1 was better in this regard, but I assume it was done to reduce the tension on the zipper. Seems like during the use it broke a few times and had to place the strap connection more awkward.

Recently took a week long trip to Germany and used my A31 for one bag travel. With the ORG Kits attached (which you can only do with the V2) it passed with flying colors. And it performed flawlessly. Able to pack it to the gills for the trips, it compresses down to make a great edc pack. And the shoulder straps are some of the most comfortable I’ve ever used. Only ones that could beat it would be my worn in Gorucks.

Did you have the rolltop rolled down completely? I've been considering using it for air travel across Europe, but everywhere I checked the hard limit for carry-on luggage was 55cm, which means the bag should be fully rolled down.

Same experience. I’ve seen a lot of high-end bags (PD, Aer, Minaal, etc), but this is the most comfortable. This and Aer City, BUT taking into account that this is 5 times more versatile with almost same weight/size. I’m blown away. Minimalist dream.
The only nitpick - side handles. Really wish to have those. Use the wings of the rolltop, but still would purchase again v3, if it had the most basic side-handles (have no idea where to put them, so it still looks sleek, still think, that rolltop side is the place to search for, but I’m not a backpack-engineer)

Great review. One of my all-time favorite packs...and I own over 30 quality packs. The more I use it the more I love it. This pack easily replaces 2 packs. It can be used for travel and then as your around town bag once you get to your destination. This is now also my go-to hiking pack. It's the same weight as my Osprey but it's much more durable, has better access, and is extremely water resistant. If you use the hip belt you can transfer most of the weight to your hips making all-day hikes much more enjoyable. Such a well-designed bag and a great review as always.

Hi, which Osprey you refer to? Since i own the Metron 26. Which i just use for everything from edc to one bag travel. The only issue is the quality. Mine falls apart afer five years of usage.

@@h-e-r-o I wasn't recommending an Osprey. I was saying that the Alpha 31 weighs roughly the same weight as my Osprey (Ketsel 38) but it is much more durable, has better access, and is extremely water resistant. Ospreys makes good inexpensive backpacking packs for people who only use them occasionally. The Alpha 31 is one of my all-time favorite bags and I own a lot of bags.

Got this pack a while ago but it’s taken some use to really appreciate it. Shoulder straps were uncomfortable at first but they’re broken in a bit now. I wish they were more rounded on the edges as it’s the only slightly annoying thing about the pack. I’m picky about back panels but this one works for me in terms of ventilation.

Such a good review, as usual! You think this is too long for a 17” torso? From your measurements, seems like it (even though designer is my height - 5’6”). I am really picky about bags that are too long especially if contour is off…don’t like anything much longer than my waist/ top of hips (about 18”)….yeah, lots of straps. So many nice features though…question: if straps are lower down bag, and load lifters are included, is that helpful for shorter person?

    • @GeorgeDEFINED

I think you can pull it off but if you know you like 18 inch packs I would stay with your preference.

@@julianschroer5965 thanks so much for writing! You feeling love for this pack? Comfy straps and back? am 2” shorter than you (maybe you have a short torso? And I’m female…sometimes the female form wears bags differently). Your an extra 2” in height which is a decent difference. I can’t even wear bags that are 18’5” long unless the back hugs my spine or snuggles in that indentation of my back. Frame sheets that are straight and don’t conform, misery. The pack is 21” long, says George. But If you think it’s worth a shot, maybe it’s worth trying. Would likely have to role it down tight. I like neat. ..glad you are enjoying it. Such a nice looking bag. Which one did you get? Any gripes? I have yet to find a bag where I feel true comfort on my back. It’s maddening.

@@seechangenyc280 👋 I have the Remote Equipment Alpha 31 in EPX600. I'm a small, 5’6” 128 lbs. guy with a 17/18 torso measurement; my build may be quite similar to Philip de los Reyes - which is possibly why the pack fits me so well.
I feel like the contour of the bag is well designed and does hug the spine/back well (when properly adjusted/dialed-in with the various straps). I find that the lumbar padding aligns and sits perfectly at my back. In my estimation, the top anchor points for the load lifters and harness/straps do help with being able to adjust and fit a shorter torso length.
      I'll conclude with a supposition …
It seems resonable to speculate that Philip's extensive experience and commitment to his work might lead him to initially develop a pack with an optimum fit for his specifications (height, weight, torso, etc.). In this way, he may be able to shape the best possible carry experience, before extrapolating flexibility to accommodate a wider user experience.
If this is true, it may also be resonable to speculate that someone just outside of Philip's specifications (height, weight, torso, etc.) - just a little taller or a little shorter - would be easily accommodated by the flexibility of the pack.
Maybe this is why I feel like the Alpha 31 specifications feel custom designed to fit me. It's the pack I've been hunting for years, and it is basically perfect, except for the waist belt, which I will eventually have custom designed to specifically fit both the Alpha 31 and me.

Great review George. Decent materials, but seems overpriced. If I'm spending $400-$500, I'll get a Mission Workshop, or another bag made here in the U.S.

    • @denis-kravets
      @denis-kravets Рік тому

Just my 2 cents. I’ve spent 800 to get the full kit with org kits (last pair over the internet with ridiculous shipping and taxes in 3 countries at the same time) and booster pod.
That expensive, cause they don’t produce them anymore. (Kits and the pod)
But to me it’s like “the one” in terms of being ideal. Probably, would be nice to have a hardshell laptop case to protect from pressure, when you pack it to the brim.
But other than that - just ideal for me personally.
And I’m happy, that you enjoy Mission Workshop. For me those are just too heavy and not my style :)
