While expensive and difficult to manage, I think seeing this against a running motor in a car would be pretty fascinating. It takes quite a bit to stop a car motor normally (particularly in one shot), but something tells me this would do it with style...
Can't you make your own ammo or is there some laws/regulations against that in US? I'm sure the gunpowder, primer and cast your own projectile has to be a lot cheaper than actually buying the cartridge? It's not like it's rocket science since you know exactly what type of gunpowder and how much you need. Reminds me older muzzleloaders, but there might be quite a bit of regulations against that I'm guessing?
Its not hard to stop a car engine in one shot. A .50BMG manages it in one shot, all you have to do is shoot it once. That is literally what the Barrett .50BMG rifles are for, anti-materiel rifles.
@@huldu you can do your own re-loads where you put a fresh bullet, primer and powder in the casing. There are videos on UA-cam that show you the process doing your own re-loads.
Another absolutely marvelous intro. You have never let me down sir - always top notch. I love the recurring characters in the KB universe. Wonderful stuff.
When retired Colonel Art Alphin founded A-Square, he decided to create the ultimate dangerous game stopping rifle, meaning a gun used by professional guides to reliably end a charge from the biggest, gnarliest, angriest critters on earth, namely African elephant, rhino, lion, and Cape buffalo. He company was short lived, but he unquestionably achieved his goal with the Hannibal rifle chambered in .577 T-Rex.
.577 is impressive. What's more impressive it that you stuck with doing what you love doing even after that 50bmg catastrophic malfunction. Most men would have called it quits after. But Scott knows what separates the men from the boys.
Use a hollow point and see what it does in ballistics gel that would be cool. Also you should set a cinder block wall and put some of the ballistic gel dummies behind it and see what it does to the dummies after the bullet penetrates the wall.
Man, this rifle really kicks like a T-rex. I would be very interested to see a side by side comparison between this and a 700 Nitro Express. Anyone agree?

If a bull had body armor on and you used a 50 BMG the 50 would just tear through the armor and hit the target whereas if you used a hunting round, when the bullet comes in contact with the armor it doesn't go through the armor but rather punches the armor into the target. It's like the difference between a standard 557 and a shotgun slug. one penetrates while the other punches.
@@christiankirby8092 While that may be the case for most 50 BMG rounds, I think the 750 grain A-Max would do quite well. Both with penetration, and transferring energy to the target.
dang though, that rifle already looks huge-and Scott is a pretty big guy! i cant even imagine how big it really is, to hold such a rifle, let alone fire it.
The thing that I noticed about this behemoth of a rifle is its stock profile. It's created in such a way so the barrel is as much as possible leveled with the stock and parallel to shooter's shoulder so it will prevent as much as the flip up of the gun. That's pretty neet. Even the grip is basically a big wooden shaft parallel to the stock, assuming it's to prevent the gun breaking in that place from the sheer force of that 577 round
Found a video where the rifle manufacturer said the stock also has several mercury filled inertia capsules in the stock to reduce recoil, he also said the 460 Weatherby Magnum is worse recoil, whereas the .577 is a big "push" rather than a sharp slap. That's his words.
That thing dumped SO MUCH energy into those water jugs. I'm really curious as to what it would do with some soft point rounds. I'm also really curious to see what it would do to a 55 gallon drum size block of ballistics gel.
The pressures involved with this Cartridge might not allow for the use of Soft point bullets, many of the large dangerous game cartridges use solids, as Jackets, (Cup&Core) would strip off the bullet as it goes down the barrel.
When you shot that grey poupon, I thought the explosion on the hit would end in the creation of a super-massive black hole and suck you and your truck into oblivion. I have been watching firearms content online as long as the internet has had it. The videos that you are describing from the past were from a website called Asccurate Reloading, if I'm not mistaken. They had mostly foreign guys standing up straight, shooting that rifle, and then falling over backwards. Sometimes the rifle itself would just go flying out of their hands. I didn't know that those guns were so rare.
I think I know what video you are talking about. I don't believe those Indians/Pakistanis were shooting THIS rifle. These are too rare. They were probably shooting other elephant rifles, there are several calibers.
@@bobjohnson1633 Because they were visiting America, and shooting a .577 T-Rex. I (think I) remember the caliber and the name of the rifle specifically. Undoubtedly, there are others large game rifles, but I recall the T-Rex knocking them down. There were many videos on that site, not just one or two.
The .577 Tyrannosaur is a pipsqueak in comparison to the .950 JDJ. It fires a 3,600 grain bullet (that's literally half a pound of lead) at 2,200 FPS. That generates 39,000 ft lbs of energy on target. It's three times more powerful than a hot .50 BMG round. The rifle itself weighs 80-120 lbs (The muzzle brake alone weighs 16lbs) and still has over 200lbs of recoil energy. For reference, a 30-06 has 20lbs of recoil energy.
The idea is having lots of power in a rifle that a person can still pack around & fire off-hand from the shoulder at a raging target. Noone is going to carry & fire off-hand (easily) a rifle over 20+ pounds, much less an 80-120 pound rifle. Once a rifle is limited to firing from a rest, then it can be as big as it wants as anyone can shoot it.
That was thoroughly entertaining. I'm truly impressed at how much recoil you can take and brush it off so seamlessly. It was great seeing gun genie again. Stay safe and look forward to seeing more.

I spotted the crack right away, too. I'm guess that was how Scott was able to afford such an extremely rare rifle due to the damaged stock. I'll venture a guess that A-Square took measures to reinforce the stock from the crack (possibly epoxy or other material internally that we can't see) so that it's still safe to shoot, but it would be discounted because the damage is clearly visible.
I've watched so many videos of UA-camrs shooting targets, and never have i seen a rifle round ever blast through two cinder blocks, let alone three. I was shocked honestly. Same with the water jugs. I would love to see you shoot some clear ballistic gel to see the wound cavity it leaves behind
that rifle's stock is already starting to crack down the middle if you look at where it meets the rear tang of the receiver, no doubt from the absolute unit of a cartridge it has to withstand

It’s a .600 nitro necked down to .585 with out the flange. The .577 is actually .585. An awesome rifle!
585 Nyati?
@@lms3942 the nyati is the same caliber but different case, different pressure. The nyati is loaded to lower pressure because of the heat in Africa, which cause higher pressures, which causes extraction of the cases after firing a problem. The .416 rigby is loaded this way. The .416 weatherby is the same cartridge but loaded to much higher pressures and a different shoulder.

Fun fact the Martini-Henry used a .577/450 round it was black powder of course but it was a beast of a round for its time.
I would really like to see what this does to a fully intact Atlas stone. Those cinder blocks looked like card board, but I saw that old stone in the background and thought that might stand a chance of slowing it down. It would certainly make a big ole splody crack that would be super entertaining.
When he as looking around at the poupon everything, I saw the Atlas stone & was hoping he was going to roll it out of the woods.

Scott, in case one of the other commenter's hasn't mentioned it, at 3:37 in your video, it appears you have a small crack in your stock on the .577. Be careful and get it checked! Don't want to see you take that kind of recoil to the face.
I was going to say the same.
Maybe see if you can get Mark Novak from Anvil to check it (and a video of the repair 😉)
Yeah i just re-watched the video and i see it to
I saw it too a small one on the top

He surely doesn’t need another incident like the RN 50. Thanks for sharing
The bolt lift at 7:12 is even more alarming.
The giggle before firing is priceless. Endless joy and happiness 😊
While expensive and difficult to manage, I think seeing this against a running motor in a car would be pretty fascinating. It takes quite a bit to stop a car motor normally (particularly in one shot), but something tells me this would do it with style...
That just reminds me of the Russian riot shotgun that basically fires 40mm grenades >_>''
That is literally what the Barrett .50BMG rifles are for, anti-materiel rifles.

.577 is impressive. What's more impressive it that you stuck with doing what you love doing even after that 50bmg catastrophic malfunction. Most men would have called it quits after. But Scott knows what separates the men from the boys.
10:06 That is literally insane. It cut the three blocks in half. I’ve been watching your channel a long time and have NEVER seen anything like that.

What I've never understood, is why hunters bother with these specialized cartridges/rifles, when a 50 BMG would be far cheaper, and more effective.
@@viktordamask2680 50 BMG is generally a round meant for penetration whereas these hunting rounds dump all their energy on impact almost or sometimes completely killing the target.

That’s what she said…
The thing that I noticed about this behemoth of a rifle is its stock profile. It's created in such a way so the barrel is as much as possible leveled with the stock and parallel to shooter's shoulder so it will prevent as much as the flip up of the gun.
That's pretty neet.
Even the grip is basically a big wooden shaft parallel to the stock, assuming it's to prevent the gun breaking in that place from the sheer force of that 577 round
and it still has cracked...
The stock makes it easier to aim but, like an old double shotgun, the design also focuses the recoil into a straight line.
I also noticed the small crack behind the receiver.
A SQUARE designed these stocks to be wider at the butt to help spread out the recoil over more of your shoulder.
Found a video where the rifle manufacturer said the stock also has several mercury filled inertia capsules in the stock to reduce recoil, he also said the 460 Weatherby Magnum is worse recoil, whereas the .577 is a big "push" rather than a sharp slap. That's his words.
Seeing the .577 vs. everything from engine blocks, to body armour would be something else!
That thing dumped SO MUCH energy into those water jugs. I'm really curious as to what it would do with some soft point rounds. I'm also really curious to see what it would do to a 55 gallon drum size block of ballistics gel.
hmm... maybe if its in a 55 gallon drum, that should be interesting, definitely one to do behind shelter though, the shrapnel could go anywhere
The pressures involved with this Cartridge might not allow for the use of Soft point bullets, many of the large dangerous game cartridges use solids, as Jackets, (Cup&Core) would strip off the bullet as it goes down the barrel.
I'm pretty sure irregardless of where it hit a 577 would probably be lethal unless it was a toe or finger
It's not going 5000 fps. It won't have cove separation..22-250 might at 4500 fps.with V max 35 grain
@@beardo52 Inside the barrel, the jacket is a cup the core rides in. You're not going to just blow the core out of the jacket inside the barrel.

Awesome!!! That thing is a monster bro I felt sorry for your shoulder watching that!

I'll venture a guess that A-Square took measures to reinforce the stock from the crack (possibly epoxy or other material internally that we can't see) so that it's still safe to shoot, but it would be discounted because the damage is clearly visible.

I seen that too ! The bolt lifted on recoil..
Jaw dropping! This is why Kentucky Ballistics is one of the best gun channels on UA-cam. No one would be shooting 1 of 24 rarity gun. Other would have hung it on wall as a trophy. My guy, on the other hand, is putting poupon it!
Other then the Al guy with his one of ten prototype beret bullpup
@@quinnholidy yeah!
Incredible. Insane. Loved it. Your pain is our pleasure! Thank you!
3:50 matt’s cut out had me rollin😂😂
Scam bot
I'm extremely jealous. I had a chance to buy this rifle around 2006-07. I got a brochure from A-Square that I wish I had kept. Then,it was about $5000.00. I hope Arthur Alphin sees this. Scott,if you can find a copy, Any Shot You Want has all the reloading info for all A-Square cartridges.
I would honestly like to see what it would take to stop one of these……I would also like to see it’s impact damage compared to the other elephant calibers as well as a .50 BMG
Yeah, let's see it against some level 4 body armor on a realistic ballistic gel dummy. If it doesn't go through the armor, the armor itself will probably be pushed through the dummy.
A giant old tv pleese.THANKYOU!!
