For the whole time of me playing Elite Dangerous, I never had to call them either. Fuel tank with the best fuel scoops, never had any problem with fuel. That is until I decided to buy a Dolphin for Transport missions. I installed a fuel tank, but forgot to install a fuel scoop. It wasn't until i hit my fourth brown dwarf did I realize I was screwed. Ended up hitting up the Fuel Rats. A fuel rat from the UK helped me out and helped me on how to navigate the filters of the system map to find fuel stars easier. I love them lol
A very informative video for those new to deep space exploration. The DSSA network is an excellent initiative, I've landed on a few more for convenience than emergency but they can make the difference between keeping or losing months of UC data.
I recently switched from dual amfu to amfu + repair limpet because I had a free slot for cargo rack, and you could always bring the amfu back online if it breaks with reboot and repair.
I'm pretty sure he knows that but just forgot in the heat of the situation lol. When I saw he was in trajectory to crash I was also screaming "PIPS TO SHIELDS, PIPS TO SHIEEEELDSSSSSSS"
The full pips to Shields oh s*** maneuver is something that is good to practice, I don't even realize I'm doing it what instinctively I think oh s*** and my thumb puts the pips into Shields.
@@JAXX3L in the sort of bottom right of the hud you can see three stacks of "pips" representing power distributed to engine, system, and weapons. not sure how to do it on controller but on pc you can use the arrow keys to reorganize which thing gets the most power (down arrow to reset). for shields you would want to put all power to system
If you were on Xbox, I would've been able to come out and help, I'm stationed in the Izanami Region and I was probably active that day, either AFK waiting for a call or training missions so I can stay in good shape
During my current trip to colonia I was attempting to land on a 1× earth g planet and didn't really notice it was higher g planet until it was almost too late. I was just barley able to pull up enough to only take 50% hull damage. I got lucky though because the nebula i was in has a colonia station in it.
You were very close to me out here a couple of weeks ago... I myself docked with the DSSA carrier Limpets Call (VOG-2VY) which is a Hull Seals ship (no repairs, just visiting as I've been out exploring for the last 8 months doing an anti-clockwise route around the centre heading to Colonia)... AIPHAITT AA-A H7 is my next port-of-call. Take care Cmdr o7
I almost had to use the Fuel Rats once just yesterday I installed Elite again like 2 days ago and was on my way to the Multi-Cannon Engineer and my game had not saved my KGBFOAM setting and I ended up in a brown star system with a covette that has like 16ly jumprange unladed.
I'm only a few weeks into playing this game. Yesterday I bounced hard off a planet and exploded.. I was confused.. I thought my shield would save me.. I had forgot to turn it back on after repairing. I lost about 280 jumps of cartographic data and my "vacation" was cut short. I learned that these ships don't fly like airplanes.. You cannot do loops close to the ground. lol
Fuel Rats and Hull Seals is a great people and I'm sure they enjoy what they doing. But I'm never going to call them because I don't like to bother people
It's shame in Odyssey you cannot just put on your vacsuit and go outside with some patches and a bucket of crazy glue.

@lee mills I wasn't filtering stars, I couldn't scoop as I was going through a cluster of non-scoopable stars.

I think Hull seals and fuel rats are amazing. Never needed them so far. Good to have a piece of mind of safety they offer 👍

Put pips to shields when landing. Pips to thrusters do nothing for their non boost performance other than your top speed.

Ah. I was part of the Hull Seals in DW2 for the PS4 players.
Longest jump was from the purple to HS AQ-Y D81 And back... in a Cobra Mk.111 with no fuel scoop. Oof. Fuel scoops are a MUST.
This is why you need a Fleet Carrier when out in the black far from any station. Only 6000 tritium and 100k per jump seems a very small price to pay.

Btw the landing mechanics have been improved. Should be easier to find landing spots now.
