  • Today on the 80 Series Land Cruiser build we fix the worn out shock mounts and install extended brake lines and sway bar drop brackets from ‪@Metaltech4x4‬ and ‪@iconvehicledynamicstv‬. The brake lines are a much needed upgrade because since the truck has more suspension travel it can overstretch and potentially rip the existing brake lines. The sway bar has to be dropped to keep the suspension geometry correct and prevent the front driveline from hitting the bar. The lift is coming together, almost done!

Man, you ever sit back and wonder:
"What the f&@# was the previous owner thinking when he did this?"

@@RM_Garage did ya get my last comments.. if not. now you need caster bushes for the arms..problem with the arms, is the bolt is horizontal, which means, when you flex, with extra 3'',,you put sht loads strain on the bush, bolt, brkt.which will eventually rip off the diff..why is this, because toyotas are not 4x4rs.. go look at an f100 4x4 radius arms,, & fit them,,if you can..then,,problem solved... here in aus, they have, sell,,arms that twist, to eleviate this in built problem..bs fix i say..& $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. you need sway bars cos its coil.. as i said last time,,should of got a gu nissan. 4.2tdi,,petrol sucks..no distance.. last owner never did sht to it. those bushes worn are decades old by the wear..plus the paint is crap..

@@harrywalker968 I would disagree that Toyota's are not 4x4s. Nearly every trail here which is hardcore rock crawling is full of Jeeps and Toyotas. That's it. We don't have Patrols/Nissan Diesels in the states. Can't get em.
I know I have to fix the caster. I mentioned it in the video. It's not done yet

Yup - every repair STARTS with a recondition. The curse and the joy of a '97. Safe travels sir.

I bought the Slee brake like for my 94 and I had the exact same issue on the passenger side. I ended up doing exactly what you did to make it fit. All good after that.

I bet it feels way better! time for a Delta panhard lift bracket if the rear end feels wobbly

They’re local to me! I’ll definitely be getting some delta parts.

Those OME shocks came with poly bushings (at least they did circa 2003 when I put them on my 80). That's some serious neglect, as I don't know if poly bushings can really decay to the point they just fall out.

2 questions: 1. What size lift? 2. Why do you hate anti-seize? 😁

      3.5”
The truck is from a place where parts don’t corrode and seize and is currently in a place where parts don’t corrode and seize! I do use it, just not on every fitting.

Unrelated: did you replace your transmission cooler lines? After my engine break-in these lines slowly started to give up and are discontinued via Toyota so used some Gates 400psi 3/8" line. Recommend replacing them if you havent.

In the USA we did not get 80s with manual. My previous Toyota (88 pickup), was manual w/ dual transfer cases.

3'' lift..3'' lines,,makes sense,,yes.. but he needs to tie the coils in..or they tear the lines & bust the shock..

I have a question for you experts in the 4x4 sector! (and I would like to know if you can tell me if it is true that the ironman nitro gas shock absorbers go well with the original set-up and can be adapted with the +5? I have a Suzuki jimny 4x4 with m13a 1.3 l petrol engine with shock absorbers and standard settings, yesterday afternoon I picked up the new ironman nitro gas shock absorbers and the 4x4 spare parts dealer in Florence told me that these ironman nitro gas shock absorbers are ok for 4x4 off-road vehicles with stock trim or in a second you could put the springs higher and it becomes a +5 high trim is that true? Greetings from Florence Italy!)
