Actually, pakistani withdrew earlier on after traveling halfway to the war zone leaving only the Malaysian and American to continue on. It was only the Malaysians' Condor that saved the US Rangers. Malaysian suffered one casualty and 9 injuries. I heard that a Malaysian film house will be reenacting the events to tell their side of the stories about the 19th Royal Malay Regiment (Mechanized unit) struggle. From their veterans account, their effort is by no means an easy feat. One account which interests me is when a Malaysian platoon commander ordered his men to blast the first floor of a building to bring down an antiaircraft artillery so that air support can fly in to give air cover to the ground rescue team at the extraction sites. I'm so keen to watch the Malaysian side of the events because their battle sounds amazing too.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WAS, THE PAKISTANI RETREATED BCOZ THEIR LACK OF CAPABILITY TO ENGAGE AT NIGHT.
WE WERE REQUESTED BY THE AMERICANS TO HELP AT 1700 ON THE 3rd OCT, AFTER SETTING OUT TO TWO DIFFERENT OBJECTIVES A & B AT 2200, WE WERE ATTACKED 2KM FRM LOCATION... WE WERE ATTACTED BY MORTAR N RPGs.
TO GIVE THE IDEA OF THE COURAGE OF THESE MEN, WE WENT IN WITH WHITE UN CONDOR!!...AT NIGHT!!! WE WERE SITTING DUCKS, BUT WE NEVER BACKED OUT...WE KEPT ON...
AS AN EX COMANDO FROM GGK MALAYSIA, I SALUTE THESE MEN.
BLACK HAWK DOWN WAS A FARCE.. THE AMERICANS SHOULD STOP LYING N TELLING HALF TRUTH STORIES.
IF IT WASN'T FOR THE MALAYSIAN ARMY, THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET THEIR PEOPLE OUT.
WE MANAGED TO EXTRACT 95% OF THE RANGERS, WHERE THE OTHER 5% COULN'T BE LOCATED, FEARED DEAD.
THESE MSIAN ARMY PERSONEL, WITH CASUALTIES, SAVING THE AMERICANS, DESERVED TO BE ALLOWED TO TELL THE WORLD WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

The part of the Somalian guy shooting the Black Hawk with the RPG is actually real, which was a really impressive feat, with the fact that an RPG is very hard to handle and hold, with the handles making it uncomfortable to aim upwards. One thing that almost never gets mentioned - the Quick Reaction Force comprised of troops from the 10th Mountain Division attempted to drive into the city to mount a rescue at the crash sites, but were stopped at the K-4 traffic circle by fierce resistance. They engaged in a half-hour firefight, called in air support, but it wasn't enough to break through. This was a huge reason why the battle ended up lasting as long as it did.

Another inaccuracy is the way the whole area looks. The Mogadishu portrayed in Black Hawk Down looks nothing like the real Mogadishu. In Black Hawk Down the city just looks like a generic middle eastern city. The area where the actual battle took place was a lot more suburban, with smaller buildings no more than 1 or 2 stories high, and there were green trees and vegetation all over the place. In the movie it just looks sand colored and completely barren, and the buildings are all too large and tall. The battle scenes are good, but they don't capture the look of the battle at all.

One of the biggest inaccuracies I’ve ever learned about the movie is the main character himself. SGT. Matt Eversman left with the first convoy and stayed back at the hangar to help with wounded and resupply for the entire rest of the battle.
Also, the crash site of 6-1 went relatively uncontested as opposed to the events of the movie. According to Dan Schilling (the CSAR PJ on scene), the Somalis eventually forgot they were even there, and they hid in a hut next to the helicopter the rest of the night as Somalis just walked around paying no mind to them.
Last but not least, 4 black hawks in total were shot down over the course of the battle. The helicopter that inserted the CSAR team onto 61’s crash site, Super 68, was hit by an RPG during the insertion and crash landed safely outside of the combat zone. Super 62, inaccurately portrayed as only receiving small arms fire, was also hit by an RPG shortly after inserting Gordon and Shurghart to secure 64’s crash site, with delta sniper Brad Halling losing his leg in the attack. It crash landed safely back at base.

One of Black Hawk Down's biggest failures is downplaying the strategic ineptitude that put soldiers in that position. Civilian and militia resistance was so high partly because a previous failed attempt to kill Aididi led to ~200 local elders and community leaders getting blown up in a raid. It feels both disrespectful to the Somali people and tactically effed, to just fly troops in by daylight weeks after that.

  • @dickriggles942

The movie was NOT faithful to the book and what I presume were the real events. So many people who have watched this movie have NEVER read the book and it's pathetic. I read the book as a college freshman and for the first time, I understood why so many vets were messed up. The Somali militia would advance on US troops with women and children as human shields. They literally had NO CHOICE but to kill them or they would die. They had to shoot women and kids who were carrying ammunition or pointing out troop locations. The attack helicopters would kill scores of people during their gun runs.
What bothered me a lot was the portrayal of special forces. In the book, they're just highly experienced, highly professional soldiers with an attitude. Once everything goes sideways, they're fighting for survival like everyone else. They were NOT the Avengers like they were shown to be in the movie. They provided good tips to the Rangers but it was shown that they were as human as anyone else.
I couldn't tolerate this movie after reading the book. Given that it got assistance from the US military, anything making it look bad was scrubbed and sanitized. I do not think America would like to see the honest adaptation of the book. Horror movies just haven't compared since I read it. Enemy at the Gates, the book, was also very disturbing.

Being the only veteran among us, we were, naturally, curious about his experiences. However, no one wanted to actually ASK him about what happened since, first and foremost, we were concerned about the insensitivity of asking him to dredge up potentially painful memories and second, we all assumed he was asked those questions all the time and had grown tired of answering them. Eventually, of course, the question came up and this is more or less the only thing he told us about the movie:
    "It was hard to watch."

I thought the biggest technical inaccuracies was the first crash site scene where it’s shown that Chalk 4 had to haul their ass’s through the entire city as they were the only ones to protect the downed crew members. In reality right after the 1st Black Hawk went down a Mini Bird came down and 2 pilots, Karl Mayor and Keith Jones, directly flew down and saved the 2 surviving crew members while applying covering fire and flew out within minutes at least according to one of the documentaries I saw on the subject and they also had the emergency CSAR team out there so it wasn’t just Chalk 4 at the crash site plus also the other Chalks on the mission to went to the 1st crash site
And also something I’m a little bit unsure about but I believe the book went into was Eversmann and much of Chalk 4 was evacuated on 5e Lost Convoy before the end of the day and didn’t stay fo the night. At least as believe that was covered in the book I’m not entirely sure but also Seconds from Disaster Documentary covered that a lot of Chalk 4 got out it’s weird to think the movie thought Chalk 4 was literally one of the only forces out there that day but I guess the movie needed a central cast to follow I’m not sure why they didn’t just break them up and cover the other teams out there that day.
But solid movie for people that aren’t familiar with the subject and it almost acts as a documentary for the uninitiated although I will say the Somalis are depicted as an omnipresent threat and not really as a separate group of people but as one machine which is a little inaccurate

Since it's a "Based on" Movie, i don't see any problem about some scenaristics simplifications,...
I mean, "Based on" never stand for a 100% accuracy, but to pinpoint a high value of it.
and on this, the Movie is pretty accurate from an American PoV
So, as we all know now, all PoV can't be included as wanted by everyone (Pakistani/Indian PoV which have been described by their own officials as insufficient), because it's only a 2 hours movie,...
To me (and i'm not american,...), this movie relate events that US.Soldiers/Rangers/Delta could have seen during this battle, with a pretty good accuracy (but not 100%, as said earlier due to scenaristics simplifications).
The most important thing is, to not forget that this battle occured, why and it's context.
alongside, to not forget those soldiers risking their lives for people of the world, in the objective to bring them peace, stability, alike countries that are prevented from that kind of troubles.
In a result, this film is making citizens of any country who lived in peace, to be proud of what it's army does for them or for any foreign people.
We could have said, that only American people should be proud of their army by this movie,
but any country who take part into similar events, should get the same proud sense for their own army, seeing this movie.
Because comparable events will appears as in this movie (crisis, deaths of soldiers/people, violences, and any others)

It's so hard to gather the right information from a war. There so much mayhem going on around the soldiers (I'm guessing..being a civilian) that their job is only to survive. Get out alive whether they've achieved their objective or not. Trying not to get shot or blown up by explosives. What they see is just a snippet. They are the ground troops. Literally. Not the guys who call the shots. They are on a base. :) Safe.
In the end war is never the answer. . Soldiers just do as told. Whether they agree or not. They signed on for whatever the decision makes decide they should get involved in. Personally I feel soldiers should only be to defend their own country from invasion. Going to fight on foreign land...you're always at a disadvantage. The home team always knows the land better and can plan a better defence. I think invaders are just "reacting". and following orders. Take the Vietnam War...Americans came with superior firepower and still lost. All the American tactical training didn't help them...much.
Invaders/intruders are always at the disadvantage.

And most of all is that over 60 Americans were killed in such a confrontation.

      What were their names?
The depressing thing about humanity is that idiots like you who believe this shit exist in massive numbers. Stealing oxygen and propagating malignant ignorance.

Wolcott crash site is wrong, strobe placement was wrong, chalk alignment on the target building was wrong. At 1 point chalk 4 NCO Eversman radios Capt Steele for evac and looks down the street to Steeles location who then we see from his point of view looking back at Eversman. Reality was they were on opposite sides of the block on opposite corners and couldn't have seen each other. Struekers convoy was with McKnight and not separate. One convoy not two.
Should i even go onto a 223 round not being capable of penetration of an engine block especially a moving vehicle? Atto never met the General to be interrogated. Wouldn't happen anyway if if they wanted to speak .
Still a good movie , just off in certain areas where you can tell Hollywood ramped it up for shock factor
