  • 11 November is Veteran's Day. So, we wanted to do something special for our Tactical Rifleman family; and share a small slice of an upcoming video with CSM Rick Lamb, about Generations of Change with gear & weapons. Again, that's a different upcoming video. This clip is from the end of that video, where Rick talks about the Gear that he wore during the Battle of Mogadishu, back in 1993. You all have seen the movie "Black Hawk Down." Rick was there.
CSM Rick Lamb is great American, total badass, and is the guy with the worst/best luck, depending on how you look at each situation. Google "2015 Bull Simons Award" and you'll find just a glimpse into this great man.
    Here's the UA-cam Video: • U.S. Special Operation...
I hope you enjoy our video as much as I enjoyed hanging out with Rick.

As my vision faded and the world became pin sized, I yelled, "Germain! They killed us!"- SPC Shelton thinking only to report to his presumed vaporized Sergent the blast, chunks of building and road over taking the HMMWV.
He may have read, studied Thee men of the past/current and totally been copy catting but it was probably an great moment to realize they where alive and only 3 casualties.

i dunno. Meyerowich was my BDE commander for a while while i was Drill Sergeanting at Jackson. he told his story about how he saved the Ranger in Mog. every time he told it (cause he told it a LOT) made it sound like he, himself, personally saved all the Rangers. it was a running joke amongst my fellow DSs where we would joke about how COL Meyerowich would fireman's carrying a Ranger whilst dragging 2 Rangers hooked up to a tow strap behind him or some BS like. we would each try to make the story more elaborate and creative as we retold the story.
BUT....in fairness, he was a good commander. he didn't mind the DSs making life hard for the Privates. one day i was CQ and had the soldiers on extra duty "rebuilding clearing barrels" by moving the sandbags from a clearing barrel on one side of the barracks to the clearing barrel on the other side of the barracks, and vice versa. he came by doing leader checks one day, asked why they were doing that. Told him they were on extra duty and they were improving the structure of the clearing barrels. He just smirked, nodded his head, and said "carry on". Respected the hell out of him for that cause most of the commanders we got to the basic training environment were.......weak (to put it in a youtube friendly wording).

One of my SWAT cops was a marine at the embassy security detail during the battle. The Ambassador wouldn’t release the guard detachment to reinforce the rangers during the battle because”if they loose the fight out there, they’ll be coming here next”.

My first year in the Army was in 1993. I was just out of basic when Somalia happened. My first unit was at Ft.Benning. I worked at the ASP. Almost every day I would hang out with Phipps and Floyd. I got to talk to many of the Rangers who were in Somalia. My Ordnance unit just got back from Somalia also. I wish I could have been there that fateful week. When I saw it on TV we all started to push wall lockers in anger. We had to be ordered to stop. I suffer with the guilt of not seeing combat.

I graduated High School in 93' and remember the Mogadishu fight very well. Over the years I've watched Documentaries about this Operation. Read Howard Wasdin's book where he went more in depth than I've ever read before. Howard was a Seal Team 6 sniper. He tells about how he and Delta elements were imbedded and running some ops in Mogadishu months before the Black Hawk Down incident. I would like to hear more stories about it. Has Lamb wrote a book or talked about leading up to that day? I would like to hear more about his experience there.

The book of Black Hawk Down talks about it some too, but the famous battle started from TF Ranger's seventh mission after deploying in August. The first six generally went okay. The previous operation to the battle is shown at the beginning of the movie, when they do an aerial interdiction of that Somali HVT's vehicle. Something else worth noting is that the DevGru and intel guys were normally operating from a separate location in the city from TF Ranger

Although I was in the Marine Corps, I got to work with him in Djibouti, Africa in Camp Lemonier (back when it was a secret) in response to “9/11” as we got a request to help them while I was on ship (USS BONHOMME RICHARD). Got a photo with him as he told us his story from Mogadishu & showed me his scar across his head. Great Video Karl and what an incredible story from the legendary CSM Rick Lamb. Thank God for you both and thank God for America. I was a young PFC in an aviation unit on Oct 3 & 4th 1993. I remember seeing the footage of our fighting men and aviation crewmembers as their bodies were being desecrated on national tv on CNN the day after the battle with my buddies, I was both angered and heart broken, and I still cannot forgive CNN for showing that footage before their family members were notified. Years later I had the honor of being trained by and under the command of LTC Danny McKnight at a training event learning about the lessons gained from Mogadishu. Now I am a high school history teacher here in Texas, one of the few veterans on campus actually. Every year on Oct 3rd & 4th I give a special lesson in my classroom...I am the only teacher who gives this lesson on my high school campus, maybe in my state, or sadly maybe in the country. I go to class in my DCUs, LBE, all my TA-50 kit from '93 & additional gear to complete the lesson. I tell my students the significance of those days, where I was then and then share with them the story of service & sacrifice on those days back in 1993. I teach about the peacekeeping mission, Task Force Ranger, SMUs who were there, the outcomes of that mission, and my later experience with LTC McKnight. They see and feel my emotional response as I share this true story & experience and then with their permission I show them the scene of Gordon and Shughart's MOH sacrifice as depicted in the movie. By the end of the lesson they understand why I interrupted the ancient civilization lesson and more importantly understand the price of service and sacrifice paid by our soldiers and by our nation. Most of my students now as of this year have never heard of these events or that this battle ever happened. Most of them have never even seen or heard of the movie or book. That's when I tell them why I taught them this special lesson and that it is my blessing to have these personal experiences to share with them. I tell them how we as a nation then could have said "No, you handle that on your own, you don't need our help." But we didn't, that's us, that's America. Like you both, I tell them how much of an honor it was for me to have served my adopted country and that now it is my pleasure to teach them, our future generations to never forget the sacrifices that are made everday on their behalf by men like the both of you and all who serve our great country. And that we are a great country! Fewer and fewer of my teaching peers seem to do that nowadays. But not this guy.
Thank you again for a great video Karl, love these specials and love the live streams with Chad. I would love to attend the next TR Tactical pistol/carbine class you have when y'all make it back down to Texas in 2021. Best wishes, hope you had a great Veteran's Day & keep up the great work!

I was a gunship crewmember at Hurlburt Field at the time, we had a couple gunships in Kenya when it went down. We never understood why they didn't QRF them. I ran into a lot of Rangers later on the ground in Cuba (for Haiti). We all shared the same DFAC (chow hall) where we were allowed one hot a day. The Rangers also used to take up every seat in the open air theater on the windward side of Gitmo. We didn't even try to go see a movie on our downtime, too many high and tights. They say it rarely rains on the windward side of the base, that explained the open-air cinema set up. Strange days.

That would make too much sense.

Mack Steal if I remember correctly chocolate chip performed poorly in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan as it was designed against the background of Mexican deserts.

@@kekistanimememan170 That's ACU there's no black in the pattern, they didn't do well in desert environments.

Kyle Lamb, another veteran of this battle, goes to the same church I attend. I first ran into him in the mens room at a Christmas service a few years ago. I remember to saying to myself "holy shit thats Kyle Lamb". Them I remembered I was at church and needed to clean up my language....lol
Very nice guy and another hero. Just like these guys.

Bless these two heroes. I got the pleasure of meeting, at the time, Cpt. Jeff Struecker (Chaplain) while on guard duty at a VCP in LSA Anaconda back in 2007. Nicest, most humbled individual I have ever met. Was pretty much star struck when he came up and ask us how our day was.
