The border needs to be secure. There is a lot of violence in Mexico and central America and our country has every right to try and stop illegal immigration. See the problem with illegal immigrants is that you don't know if they are good or bad. This is why there are legal ways of immigrating to another country. The legal way of migrating provides the country with the proper documentation to show if you are an ideal candidate for citizenship or if you're just someone with a criminal history and bad intentions. Building walls and borders is not a racist act, it isn't prejudice, it isn't wrong. In fact, Mexico has a very strict southern border that prevents central Americans from entering Mexico, much like what Trump wants. why? cause they too want to be safe. In El Salvador there are a lot of gang members (ms-13 just for example) that get deported from the US and try to go back. when they try to go back of course they have to cross through Mexico. And many commit crimes while in Mexico. So, is it not the duty for the Mexican government to take care of it's citizens?? Yes, it is. what people need to understand is that violence is out there and if we were to just let everyone in without proper documentation or a proper immigration process our citizens will run the risk that they may encounter themselves with a dangerous person. Government leaders have a responsibility of taking care of their country and citizens.

It is not fair to imply that the only reason we want our laws enforced is because we are filled with hatred and prejudice. Americans of all cultures and ethnicities want a secure border. I like that immigrants who come in legally and become American citizens actually know more about this country than a lot of people do by the time they are sworn in. It's important that the country knows who you are before you come in and that you know the country you are assimilating into.

As a Mexican-American, I am stuck between not being fully American, yet not being a true Mexican. As a first generation child, I understand how parents sacrifice a lot so that "we" their children, can have opportunities. That's what America is supposed to be," the land of opportunity" She should have just as much of a right to study and try to make a future for herself. Because immigrants have something, most Americans don't have; the desire to become something greater. Where there really are opportunities. We just want to have an opportunity at becoming something. And we love America as well; thankful to it. For it is better than many Latin American countries, where violence is a great factor.

One thing I don't get is why not apply for an visa and study in United States legally...There are tons of international students and apparently a lot of chances and financial aids offered for international students. And to respect the law, undocumented does mean illegal.
Most illegal immigrants in the US are very poor Latin American families. They will never be given any kind visas to enter the US legally. In order to apply for a student visa you have to have a lot of money to pay for your studies. There is no financial aide for international students.
I was told by an immigration lawyer that it's all based on country of origin. The AVERAGE time for a Mexican immigrant to wait is 20 years. It's all a numbers game. We should have a system that rewards people for their accomplishments, regardless of their national origin. New Zealand has a point system, so things that earn you points are: young age, multiple languages + English, education, work skills, diversity, good health, direct family connection. Asylum system is separate.

As an international student, I had to go through so many applications and tests b4 coming here. I had to spend $2000 on an air ticket to see my family. I had to watch my parents struggle to pay my $100,000 annual tuition and do nothing about it cuz I can't work here. But u people inspired me. Vincent Wang You do realize that many students that are illegal immigrants have to pay for their full tuition out of pocket right? Many of them work hard to pay off their education. Even if you're an international student you can work in school. Just get a working social security and you can work. Many of the international students in my school worked in school. So they could pay off school and buy themselves things. They also were eligible to receive scholarships too. Illegal immigrants don't, the only way they could receive any type of scholarship is by either being geniuses or through a go fund me. Also, may immigrants can't receive welfare. Only if they have a U.S. Citizen child then they can get welfare for that child. So that means it's only limited for the child only not the parents and welfare for immigrants is strictly monitored to make sure the money is being used for the child's sake. Just enlightening you a little bit.

We have let illegals invade our country for so long that we care more about their rights and not about our laws. If you go in the social security office and go to the touch screen. Everything is in English, and Spanish and Somalian and I think it might be Hmong. WHY???? these people can't even read English. People who qualified under an agreement would recieve compensation. She’s not undocumented as a choice. There’s laws in place that make sure that it’s very hard especially for immigrants from mexico to get documentation. My mom has been in the waiting list for 20 years to get documented and she still has a few more to go until the process can even begin.
Immigration is and will always be a complex topic. Please, whether you are against or for immigration, just promise you will appreciate everything you have in a country like the U.S. Trust someone who was lucky enough to live a couple of years in such a country.
