BELT ON THE MOTOR THEN THE PULLY for anyone seeing this...watch how he does it. OMG Sir...U saved me! I was trying to attach it to the pully 1st, then the motor...Thank God your way worked 1st try 🙏😭🤗
Thanks for this. Saved myself a fortune doing it myself. Did have to spend a good amount of time trying to push the white pulley enough to get the belt around it. Finally hit on the idea of laying the dryer on its back. This eased up the issue of having the drum rest on my arms. Also allowed me a better view, looking down into it, than trying to contort my body and head on the floor with my arms extended in front of me, working. I put my iphone inside with the light on for better viewing. Finished in a minute.
OMG!! I just fixed mine on my own, they were charging me $125,,,, I paid $35 for the belt and did it my self in 35-40 min I saved $90 THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!
Just got my drive belt in the mail. After one failed attempt, I retraced my steps and found the pulley came unhinged. Fixed that and put it all back together again. Works like a charm. I’m very appreciative for this video. It was exactly the steps I needed to follow to replace our belt. Thank you!! 🙏🏼
That rear view, gloves or no gloves, was the shot that was very helpful to understanding the lineup of the belt with the pulley to reduce the slack....Thanks so much!! Great video!!!
Two tips that I learned in doing this the first time: 1. If you need to get your arms in further, lift up the drum slightly for your left arm, then put your arm in. Also put padding on the metal pieces or wear heavy long sleeves instead of gloves. The metal will leave nice marks on your arms otherwise. 2. If your belt does not sit in the grove correctly (IE: It should not be in the middle in between both groves) -> that means that you are not on the motor pully but on the motor drive. This will cause your belt to not align correctly. Ensure you are on the outer most ring under the pully, on the motor.
Just replaced my dryer belt with help from this video. Note that if you have large forearms such as myself, it is safer & easier to simply pull the dryer from the wall & remove the access plate located in the back of the dryer. This allows easy access to the pulley for removing & replacing it.
I have big drum 1 knob. Got the biggest belt, 90.5 inches, ribbed 1/4 width. Back panel my @$$. I noticed the idler wheel slid on the spring arm, revealing naked shaft. I needed that room. I got the belt left of the back idler wheel (pulley), then around the motor, then moved the pulley back on its axle toward me, then put the belt around the pulley. I rotated the drum and observed the lint bin fan spin. Ps. Plently of coin in the dust by lint bin fan.
This video helped me. I just replaced the belt on my GE dryer. I was about to go buy a whole new dryer. But with this video I was able to buy a belt at Lowes for 5 dollars and replace it my self. Thank you sir :)
Your repair tutorial is so thorough and EXACTLY step-by-step what I needed for successful belt replacement. I just kept doing what you showed, including EXACTLY where you placed your hands on the belt and pulley, and saved myself either the $ 293 repair visit or the $ 449-up replacement. I am so deeply grateful for the EXCELLENT help!
VERY HELPFUL!!! Thank you for taking the time to make videos that enable us part-time "do-it-yourselfers" to get the job done with less trial and error (mostly error)!!!
Thank you so much. I was doing the belt wrong by looking at other video and this video cleared my doubts and help me put the belt back. Really grateful for this video❤
You Made It Easier For Me After Watching Your Video. I Had A Hard Time Placing The Belt Around The Tensioner. Not A Problem After Watching Your Video Demonstration.
Great video . Noted on my GE dryer the factory set the push nut about 12mm inward from the open end of the tension arm so the belt eventually cut off the rear collar of the plastic tension pulley and wore that side of the belt out first . So on replacing the belt and tension pulley noticed that sliding the push nut 14mm inward from the end of the tension arm aligned the plastic tension pulley correctly to the grooved pulley on the motor. I used a 12 mm , deep socket to turn the push nut while pushing on down the arm to ease installation . Never would have tried to replace the belt without your video .
Thanks to you I fixed my GE dryer myself and made my wife proud! Pro tip: I went to Lowe’s before disassembly and bought all three sizes they had. Once I had it apart I measured the broken belt and chose the closest one. I returned the other two. I have a toddler and a pregnant wife. Ide rather not run to the store in the middle of the project. Done in less than 30 minutes.
Just did that same exact thing on my Ge. This is the second time I've watched your videos for 2 different dryers. Your spot on easy to understand and you take your time. Thank you I've learned a lot 😊👍
Thanks for your video, my belt was broken, so I needed to know how was going to be placed at tensor pulley and motor, your back view of this is amazing. I got the job done!
You made adding on the belt tension look so easy. Good for you Sir! Took me about 20 minutes and some scraped up forearms...but I finally got it. Thanks for the help🤜
I have a DRSR483ED2WW dryer. Make sure you put the drive belt into the REAR grove on the dryer drum. If you don't, it won't line up right. Other than that small addition to this video, it was very informative and saved me the cost of the repairman to come out to the house.
Success. I have an older model (dde5900ralwn), so the panel removal wasn't exact. Your tutorial was helpful. My GE dryer was bought new around '96. This is the only repair it needed to date ('23). I bought a stacked Kenmore washer/dryer a couple years ago as a space saver and the dryer lasted about a year.
Something is fishy. You say to wear gloves and the video from the front shows you putting your gloved hands into the dryer. But then when the video switches to the back, your hands do not have gloves on! :-) But, thanks for this good video. It helped me to take apart the GE dryer and put on a new belt after the old one had broken.
THANK YOU! I did need help from someone slightly stronger than me as I physically couldn't pull the white pulley far enough to catch the belt. Also I couldn't get the wires out but I was able to just kind of place the front panel to the side while still connected. But otherwise it was pretty much exactly as you demonstrated. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Good video! Not the same as my GE, though, model 820E6D. But you gave me enough info to get it done! My front did NOT come off after the first two screws - fixed at the bottom. And different wires and a door opener. And my top came totally off, including the back part. But this allowed me to get the belt around the drum. Then "rebuild." Next, tilt the machine forward because I needed the room, and take off that back panel where you videoed. Gave me access to the pulleys. I had to undo the top again after the belt "fell off" the drum. But second time I was able to keep it on drum while getting it around the pulleys. Success! Many thanks to you for all the clues to get it done!
Very helpful video. Mine did not go as easy as it looks. It takes a fair amount of hand/finger strength to grab and pull the idler spring pulley down enough and at the same time slip the belt over the pulley. There is no way to get two hands in there. I finally got it. You MUST put the belt around the blower pulley first and then around the idler as he shows. Since my belt was already broken, I had no idea how it went back in. The schematic diagram tucked in the top panel that I thought was just wiring also had a diagram of the belt path. Yay. Fixed for now!
The easy method... On mine the spring tension on the white roller pully bar was so strong it was nearly impossible to get the belt on the motor pulley. There is a curved metal hook on the top left of the motor housing from your video view. Before putting on the belt, I lifted out the drum and put the pulley arm on that hook... It holds the pulley in place for easy belt insertion. Then do as you did to install the belt then just push the pulley arm back off the hook and it snaps into place. Once I figured it out it took 5 minutes and was super easy...
Great video. Took more time to think, than action. It took a tad bit of skill, to figure out how the pulley got in line on the belt - feeling around, not seeing. Take your time and go for it. Great savings.
Thank You very much for this Awesome video…! If it wasn’t for this video, we would have been buying a new dryer… I purchased a drum kit which included Drum Slides, Drum Belt, Drum Felt & top Bering. Just as the video showed, I was able to take everything apart & replace everything no problem but I was really struggling with replacing the belt. If it wasn't for this video and that inside bottom view of the dryer Idler Pulley & Motor Pulley, I don’t think I would have ever got my dryer belt installed. Also, the tip from Ted Amrein below comment placing & using a drop light inside, was also just what the doctor ordered with helping me connect the belt to the Idler Pulley and motor pulley. I was using and having a tuff time seeing the idler and motor Pulley using external lighting but after placing the drop light inside the bottom of the dryer, I was able to clearly see so I could connect the belt with not worrying if I had it on just right. A+ on this awesome & Detailed UA-cam video all the way around… Thank You So Much…!
This was a Good informative Video, But that being said, I was not strong enough to put idler where it belonged in the manner that You explained, ultimately I then removed the drum pushed the idler arm down enough to clear the drum then wired it in place by going around the vent pipe, Put the drum back and the belt on the motor pulley, lined up the idler pulley, then cut the wire and removed it. It is now working fine. I couldn’t have done this without an informative Video, So thanks. Giving some food for thought. Have a Good Day.
The parts shop near me doesn't have the exact same length of belt as the broken one from my dryer. They have them a couple inches shorter or longer. Which should I get? I know the idler wheel will take up the slack, but I don't want there to be too much tension (wear something out faster) or too little (won't turn the drum well).
This video is really helpful and easy to me. You get two thumbs up, but during the installation of the drum, I saw that the drum is wiggling starting 5' 44" . Is it normal like that ?
The spring on the idler pully is a LOT stronger than this video makes it appear. I was able to follow all of the instructions and get the belt off, but it took an extra hand to hold the idler pully while I rolled the belt off. The original issue was a serious screeching that sounded like a belt going bad in a car sounds. However, the belt appears to be good. That means a bearing somewhere, I suppose...
I didn't see any replies at all so I don't know if this will do any good. I have a DLVR223GE2WW which is not like the one in the video but I was able to get the top off with the two long screws and the front off with the two short ones. I only had two wires to disconnect on the front. My belt is broken and some of the top felt is missing. I am wondering if the pulley idler arm is connected to something electrical that will make the unit not run at all if the belt breaks or will everything run fine except the drum will not turn. Thanks for any replies and thanks for the video. FYI - big price range on the belt - OEM for about $30 and a replacement on Amazon for about $9.
The lower right opening on my dyer was TINY and the sheet metal was really sharp, cut right thru my shirt and arms. Who designed this stupid thing? GREAT video tho....THANKS. There's no way I'da been able to fix my dryer without it.
The tension arm for the idler is positioned into a channel on the base from. The bottom of the arm stays in the channel, allowing the top portion with the idler wheel, to flex.
Since they removed the rear panel to place the video camera for a good view of the pullets and his hands, why not just remove the rear panel for MUCH easier access?
Like how he said you should wear gloves and in the video on the tie rod his gloves were off, i can understand why. I would do it just to beable to feel what im messing with
You gave this hustling single mom the confidence to tackle this job myself. Thank you so much.

Great video . So on replacing the belt and tension pulley noticed that sliding the push nut 14mm inward from the end of the tension arm aligned the plastic tension pulley correctly to the grooved pulley on the motor. I’ve replaced the belt and made sure it was seated correctly on the drum, pulley and blower but my drum still won’t spin. Any suggestions?
does the pulley move on the rod it fixed to, or does it stay stationary
The idler wheel is able to slide back and forth on the rod, allowing the belt to align with the motor pulley.
Thank you. This was perfect.
Thank you. Great explanation and video.. $35 for a new belt and that was it.. ( plus a few minor scrapes on the arms.) Let there be dry! Peace ✌
does the tensioner stay fixed in one position

how do you get front panel back on so easy, can't get it to slide past the felt strip
What size belt did you use, 27 or 29?
How can I tell if the belt is the problem or the motor?
I have the gas version. There is no room on the right side. My arms are too big to fit and stretch the belt over the pulley.
Thanks so much!!
How do you know if the belt is bad it just snapped or it's loose ?
Since they removed the rear panel to place the video camera for a good view of the pullets and his hands, why not just remove the rear panel for MUCH easier access?
Because you would still need to remove the front because the new belt needs to go over the front of the drum.
thanks
