One helpful tip relates to around 5:49...if you have trouble pushing the front back its because the drum tilts forward when you removed the front panel piece at the start. So slightly lifting it while pushing the front back is advised. I also had the most trouble getting the top hood platel back onto my GE. After messing with it I understand why...GE INTENTIONALLY, makes it impossible to reattach the top plate without removing the 4 screws on the top of the control panel. Screws which are TORX, meaning the average Homeowner does not have this tool usually. I find these sort of odd things very often when fixing consumer appliances around my house. They DESIGN this into them. This is a very common thing with cars as most of us know. Without the right proprietary tool some jobs are 100% impossible to do.
Anyhow all is well and hats off to Van for a great video. Obtained parts from AMZ, $40.
1:25, would like to see a little more detail on how to unplug the wires here, but this was very helpful, thank you!
EDIT: I was actually able to do it without detaching the wires, if you swing the front panel open to the left like a door while leaving the wires attached
Dammit! I found your video after I ready pulled out the drum. I was under the impression that my dryer was squeaking due to some movable parts. Then I find your video and learned that it's being caused by the same worn out part you replaced in your video. Why didn't you tell me before I did all that extra unnecessary stuff! Just kidding. Thank you for taking the time to make your video. I appreciate it.
Yeah man .. No problem for sure.. I had the same problem finding a video to fix my dryer. Thanks for watching and for leaving such awesome feedback.. Have a great week brother
I've started to fix dryers as a hobby with Covid going on. There are always washer's and dryers on the side of the road for the trash man. I bring them home and try to fix them. When I fail, I sell them to this guy for $20-40 bucks(he's a pro), when I succeed I either upgrade my set(i've switched mine 3 times already...upgrading every time) or sell them cheap/working for quick sale. Simple video's like this help me out when I'm suck. Never repaired a GE so this was helpful.
Nice 👍 try small engines like lawnmowers and power washers. Many times the carburetor are gummed up from sitting around all winter. People throw them out in the spring when they go to start them. Very easy fix. Pull off the air filter to access carb and spray carb cleaner. Fixes it no problem
Well done, thanks! The sqeeking is driving me nuts!
Im glad it helped you out... Thanks for watching and for commenting
When you say to make the felt lie flat in the channel do you mean for it to lie flat against the back of the channel so the lip of the drum will butt against it's wide part as it spins? I've been trying to put it in so the wide part of the felt will be parallel with the floor and the felt seems to be twisting.
O the drum can butt against it as it spins rarher thsn lying on top of it
Thank you very much. I've asked basically that s
same question of two other UA-cam channels and yours is the first reply I've been fortunate enough to find.
Just finished repeating the steps on this video. Helped my parents with their old dryer; now we can get even more life out of it! Thank you sir for your great instructions; God bless you and your family.
No problem. It was my pleasure. I hope you have a great week as well. 👍😁
Good for you, nice job
Cool thanks. To much work for me mine does that I'll borrow Danielle 3006 take it out back. Lol. Have a good Fri. God bless
Thanks for this video. I just ordered the parts I need from Amazon. I'll post back when they get here and let you know how it went....
Just wanted to thank you for this video. My dryer started squeaking in the first thing my wife said was we need a new dryer. My first thought was to call a handyman out. My wife's option would have cost me $600 or more. I knew the handyman would cost me about $175 to $300. However I found your video online and saved it in my home fixes and car fixes folder on UA-cam. I ordered the part from Amazon that you recommended that look like yours in the video. Use your video step by step and installed everything in about 30 minutes. I think the park cost me about 30 bucks. Thank you so much!
I’m glad the video helped ya. Thank you for taking the time to comment and let me know. It means a lot. 😁
Mine has been squealing for a while. It started getting really loud about a month ago. I do a lot of DIY, but didn’t know about this. This fixed it! There was only one Teflon piece left...
Same here. Only one left. Lol. Just fixed ours with correct parts. Had made my own that worked great but ordered the parts anyways. To be honest I never realized the light bulb was not in ours. We’ve had our washer dryer set almost 20yrs. Maybe 18 to be exact.🤦🏼.
You got this it’s literally a 5 min job just like the video!
@@tattooinstaller6525 Great. I looked the next day and noticed ours is supposed to have a bulb, too.
Thanks for being thorough, yours is the only "fix a squeaky GE dryer" that has the original squeak. Sounds just like mine. I had been afraid it might be the rear bearing but I'm pretty confident about it now. I just ordered the same replacement kit.
I was afraid it was the rear bearing on mine too.. Thank You for taking time to leave a comment and feedback.. Have a merry christmas and a happy new year
What a great video. Super simple, easy and to the point. You killed it. Thanksnfor making my life easier 👍
That was a great video!!
My dryer has been squeaking for a bit now..... hmm...winder if I can do THIS? 😮 you made it look SO simple 👍👍👍🌸
Very similar le. 20 minutes tops 😁👍
When finished and placing dryer door back how do u know where each fuse is to be properly reconnected??
I'd really have to see what you got going on there. I would hate to guess and get it wrong. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.
You are outstandingly helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I have my new bearing kit but didn’t feel very sure about installing it, and now I’m confident. You took the stress factor out of it. I really appreciate it! 😎👍
No problem. I hope it went smooth for ya. 👍😁
Thank you very much. Saved me $700. My wife was about to try to buy a new Maytag dryer. I had this fixed in less than an hour. God Bless you.
Just wanted to say thanks for the video! We just got done fixing our dryer 5 minutes ago! Victory beer is in order!
Victory beer, failure beer, waiting on parts beer... It's always beer time
🍺
🍻🥃
Thank you very much for this instructive video!. The dryer works perfectly now and it was very simple. thanks. By any chance, will you have something around a GE Washer that doesn't stop loading the hot water? Thanks.
That is probably the valve. It’s located behind the panel up top where the dials are located.
Great video ! What is the name of the GE Dryer Kit you ordered ?
There should be a link in the video description. But it’s called a dryer door bearing kit
Excellent video. Perfect instructions and very helpful. I bought the kit, followed the video and saved myself a $280 - $350.00 repair bill. Anyone that can read ,use a computer and has the ability to use a screw driver can benefit as well.
True that. It’s a great feeling saving money from doing our own repairs. 😁👍
What Is the name of the piece? The slides broke off in my dryer
Front bearing
Thanks! I fixed it for $40. I wish I had followed your advice about the coat hanger. (or bungee cord) The front panel fell right off and disconnected some wiring. I got lucky; it went back together with a little crimping.
super cheap fix..... yep the clothes hanger works great thanks for watching and for commenting
I’ve done this job twice on my dryer. The bearing is made of flimsy plastic that doesn’t survive the abuse it goes through for too long. The tabs that hold the glides in are brittle and break off easily. Excellent video on the process.
This was a really helpful video. I liked how you went into detail as to exactly how to replace each item. You should be a professional instructor.
Well if it was just those Glide Slides, they come in a set of two, and are $6 to $10 for 2 sets of two, all four for my GE Dryer... But since you got that whole kit, probably $43 or so, might as well replace the Belt and save the old one for backup maybe. Only things left for the drum would be the Tension Pulley and Rear Bearing I believe... I'm not a pro, lol. Just an old guy that never calls a repairman lol.
Oooooh thank you so much! I'm on my way to buy the needed parts, thank you it's the best 'internet daddy' tutorial! I can do it ahahaha!
This is EXACTLY what I needed to do! Many thanks for this superb video.
Nice job on this video. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!😎👍
worked flawlessly and I realize that dryers are much simpler than they seem to be
Awesome feedback. Thank you. 👍😁
I needed to see where the wires went😢
Thanks for the vid,my dryer screaming like a banshee, but my wife louder, I had one good strip left, traced it onto a Arnold Palmer ice tea jug and made 4 new, have some coming from Amazon ,In experimental mode right now, seems good with heavy load
Thanks for the detailed step by step instructions! No more squeaking!! 😅
Awesome 😁👍
This is a great video! We were able to replace the part ourselves and extend the life of the dryer. Thank you!
Is there any reason I can't just replace the missing slides instead of the whole assembly? I can get the slides for $7 on Amazon but the whole kit is $35. Plus looks I wouldn't need to disconnect the entire door. Still worth it if need be but wondering if it's necessary? Like is the slides breaking out indicative of some problem with the assembly itself and new slides put in my existing assembly would just break out again? Thanks! Awesome video btw!!
You can try the slides. But in my opinion, while you have it almost disassembled it would be a good option to replace the whole assembly so you won’t have to do it again later. 👍😁
What do you think about replacing the belt and wheels also since the dryer is opened up? PS, I "liked" and subscribed.
My dryer does not have screws in front. On to the next video! Thanks anyway!
Thank you thank you!
Thanks for the detailed instructions, wish you didnt skip the part about disconnecting the electric connection. We couldn’t figure that part out but carried rest of the steps to replace the top part along with the strips. The drier doesnt make squeaking noise anymore. Thumbs up for the video.
Sorry about missing a step.. Im glad this video helped you out
I 2nd this statement, but we were able to get it figured out regardless
Your repair video was great. Thank you so much.
Has anyone else had trouble putting it back together? I changed out all parts and now I can’t get the front of the dryer to close back up so I can put screws back in.
Super clear, easy to follow and well detailed. Thanks for sharing! Appreciate that!
I ordered the kit however I received 4 white bushings. Wonder if there is much of a difference between the brown bushings and white bushings
I need the plastic part that holds the dryer lint trap also...I need the whole thing...part # please
Thank you!
Great slow and clear explanations and demonstrations.
Awesome thanks 👍😁
What is the kit called and where did you get it ?
Should be a link in the video description 😁👍
I replaced the front panel and bearing slides two weeks ago and already it's getting shredded up again. Any suggestions? Is the drum weighing too heavily on the front bearing?
Check the bearing behind the drum.
Very Cool! 😎 Now come over and fix ours!
Haha okay
I suspect noise problem also often involves a pulley tensioner for the drive motor/belt.
Great 👍 video!
Could you give me the link to where you gotten your parts for your model plastic arch with teflon pads cause here in canada 🇨🇦 the hole kit is 80$ maybe its exchange and availability that makes more expensive here!!
You can use this link amzn.to/2rNI8AB and put in your dryer information 👍😁
You should replace the belt since you have it. There is no reason not to replace that dried out cracked belt.
Thank you, Very helpful video. Well done.
Do you have a link for the parts? Great video 👍🏼
Here is a link to Amazon. You should be able to find your kit by the make and model of your dryer. amzn.to/305JOkj
Thank you for posting this video. It was the best one, way better than GE’s.
Not a problem. Thanks for the compliment 👍😁
Thanks!
Excellent video. Thanks!
Where did you find that kit bc I looked up our model and it's no longer made, but you and I have the same make and design from what I saw, so I'm guessing replacement parts are relatively universal for this particular repair bc our dryer squeaks too.
So how and where did you find that kit? Thank and your video was SPOT ON compared to others I've watched, but as I said, we have then same make and design dryer too lol
A local appliance store is where I got mine 👍😁
@@VansWorld
If you recall or have it available, what is the kit part number? That would save me a lot of looking and what was the cost? Thank you!
My dryer didn’t have a coat hanger. Not sure if I have the same model
Thank You for the Video. I hope you don't mind. I shared, Liked, and Subscribed. My dryer has a Burning smell to it. I stopped it right away. Is this normal for the first run, or is I another problem??
Thanks for watching and subbing. That smell may not be normal.
@@VansWorld OK, TY, That's what my wife said, plus the dryer was very dusty inside, I cleaned it very well, she also said its probably running better then it has in 5 Years, so yea getting warm and a smell is normal. Thanks again for the help
Thx
Perfect instructions. You the man! Thanks
I appreciate you and your awesome comment. Thanks for watching.
You should list the part in the info notes with your aff link so you get some compensation Van.
👍😁 thank you for the tip
A great how too video brother you made it look pretty simple..when im doin things like that i usually have some extra pieces left over after the re-assemble lmao..👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Haha me tooo. I stuck a screwdriver in my hand. I didn't show that in the video lmao.
My wife and I had your video played and paused on my phone while we did ours lol thanks for the video!
No problem. I’m glad it helped ya! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate you!
I hope you have a great week!
Thanks for that diy. where did you get the kit from ?
From a local appliance store. Amazon has the kits . Use this link: amzn.to/2KynWXP
Literally a life saver ! Video is very clear. You show exactly what you're doing, which is amazing cuz I have no idea about this stuff! I'm so happy to learn. I enjoy your video! And this is going to be such an easy fix. Thank you
Where can I buy repair kit?
I got mine from a local appliance store. But Amazon should have it too. It’s a common part.
Who has a wire coat hangar anymore?!
Thank you SO SO much for this video! It is exactly what I needed to fix my squeaky GE dryer. The step-by-step gave me confidence that I could order the exact kit for the felt and plastic top frame piece with the tabs, and it went through without a hitch.
Thank you so much for this video, you just saved my husband´s sanity. He was getting ready to disassemble the whole thing until I came across this video of yours. God bless the skilled laborer! Thank you so much.👼
I need to know which terminal the 2 white wires go. Please help
Thanks! You just saved me $550 on a new dryer. Simple, clear instructions.
😁👍
Thanks my brother great video!!!
Thank you for this video. Thanks for showing the original fault. I'm ordering my kit today. Saving this as a tutorial. Thank you so much fingers crossed. I may replace my belt though. Just refresh the entire thing so I wont have to worry about either for a while.
Sounds good. It’s easy. You won’t have any problem
How long do these slides usually last just curious
Years and years. It really depends on if the dryer gets over loaded a lot
Great video instruction.. Covered the ground real good..Thank you..
👍😁
HI. GREAT JOB. WHERE ON EARTH DID YOU FIND AN ENTIRE KIT? LOOKING FOR ONE. THANKS.
A local appliance store here in my town. Amazon sells it too there is a link in the description to this video to buy the kit. 👍👍😀. Thanks for watching and for commenting
Vans World I don’t see it anywhere in the description.
Here is the Amazon Link amzn.to/35kYy2h
Very easy-to-follow video. I replaced mines in less than 30 minutes! I appreciate the helpful details you added like bending the felt strip in half, keeping it straight while wrapping it, etc.
Great Video. Even a dummy like me could follow those direction. Simple fix. Again, great video. Thanks!!
Thank you. This fix worked.
You make it look so easy. The putting it back together part always messes me up.
Very simple fix
Can I purchase that top part for the sliders at Home Depot or Lowes?
I’m not sure. I know amazon sells them. Should be a link in the video description. If it’s not in the video description let me know and I’ll give it to you here in the comments 👍😁
Video was 💯 percent helpful thanks have a blessed day
I appreciate you. 👍😁
Well done ,thanks.
How did you get the part ?
Local application repair store. But there is also a link in the video description
Where can you find the parts
My dryer is different than yours😭 its a maytag with a pull out vent on top. The screws are on the vent and the whole top come off, including the knobs!
Oh no. I’m sorry. I hope you find a video that helps. Thanks for stopping by and and sharing your feedback. And for watching and commenting
