  • Esther’s parents say their beautiful 38-year-old daughter is nothing but a miracle. Six years ago, doctors removed a tumor the size of a lemon from her brain, and Esther had to relearn how to do everything, from walking and talking to taking a shower. It took three months, but she made a full recovery. But years later, Esther says she was having full blown panic attacks that were so debilitating they prevented her from living a normal life. Esther’s father, Dave, says he had to become her full-time caretaker and moved into her tiny studio apartment, while her mother, Mary, says she shared the burden with her ex-husband. But after a year of living together and dealing with her parents, Esther says she's sick of being treated like a child. Dr. Phil discovers the root of Esther’s anxiety. Plus, NFL Fox reporter Jay Glazer shares his personal story of battling anxiety and depression that he calls “the gray.” (20094)

@@wisemechanic1758 I learned you can't worry about everything, you can't control everything, some things just happen on their own whether you want them to or not, and finally, and most importantly, not everything is about me, so stop taking things personally. That's not saying I'm a narcissist, but I'll give you an example. Just because someone hasn't called me in a while doesn't me that don't like, love or care about me, they just could be very busy and haven't had time. or they don't like talking on the phone or a million different reasons I've never thought of. But it's OK. It's nothing to worry about or get upset over. Of course, n the years it finally took me to learn these lessons I more than paid for a few vacations for my therapist. I hope she
      enjoyed them. LOL

This is painful to watch , I’ve suffered myself with anxiety and panic attacks and I would never wish this upon anyone!
It’s almost like watching myself I do the exact same things and for others it’s really hard to even begin to understand how difficult daily tasks are to do because a panic attack can last hours with me, and sadly for this beautiful soul.
I pray she finds some sort of medical explanation, or help from Dr Phil 💜

Here is what helped me. I read it off a UA-cam comment years ago and it changed my life. I sometimes call it "Pick Five Things"
When a panic attack starts to come on, count five things in the room you can see. Then count four things you can touch, three you can hear, two things you can smell, one you can taste.
You could even switch up the order
This helps because you are focusing on your surroundings rather than the suffering. It calms me because I am occupied with something else by focusing on searching for objects in the room and counting. I rarely even get through picking five and I am okay again. Sometimes you have to catch it early, but it helped me a lot! I hope you try this!

Okay I feel for this woman. You can't turn off panic attacks. If that was the case then I wouldn't need medication for mine LMFAO. When someone is having a panic attack you are suppose to console them. Not tell them what to do. I just wanted to jump into the screen and just hug her! Seeing her like that reminds me of when I couldn't even live my life due to constant panic attacks. This poor woman isn't making it up. And it's not self induced ( depending on the situation ) People get them randomly. I wish people would take the time and learn about panic/anxiety disorder. When she said " I couldn't leave my house " she literally meant it. I couldn't leave my house either. I was afraid that if I was too far away from home that something bad would happen. Never pass judgment on something you know NOTHING about.

I wonder if she has functional neurological disorder…. I think that because she mentioned her hands clenching and feeling her body doing those movements on there own. That’s what it’s like when I am having an episode, your body just starts having all sorts of movements and tics and sometimes vocalisations and it can go on for a while. Last time I had a really bad one I couldn’t tell which movements were voluntary and which weren’t, it was awful. She should see a neurologist. It’s actually quite a common condition.

She makes people like me who actually suffer from severe panic disorder look like a joke and im offended by this...and im not easily offended. Edit: diagnosed at 9 years old but have had panic attacks literally since I have memory recollection...my mom had to have help making me go to elementary school because I would panic so bad every morning, now at 27 its still severely effects my life, thats a real disorder not out of nowhere as an adult, getting scheduled medication then all of the sudden you just can't function because you want to take a ton of Ativan 🙄 then proceeds to use it as a way to get noticed on dr.phil...this honestly disgusts me.

My 10 year old daughter had her first panic attack about 2 months ago (doing great right now!) but right now, they tell us that she does have anxiety and will trigger a panic attack occasionally. I know that is not what you have but you said you were diagnosed at 9 so it really caught my attention. I hope you are doing well now! My girl is not on any medication. She simply does not need it thank goodness. Her ONE panic attack was very scary for her. I can't imagine what you have gone through. I really hope you have treatment methods that work for you.

@@Evealaquisina high horse? Lmfao just offended someone whos actually toxic is actually invalidating something very real and using it as a way to get on dr.phil and an excuse for her prescription drug problem....get off of your high horse because you obviously don't understand and you're supporting a woman that obviously is using something (even if she does struggle with said disorder) as a ploy to gain notoriety and excuse her addiction, if she truly was struggling like that she wouldn't be filming it posting it for views and going on dr.phil IMHO... im entitled to mine as you're entitled to yours even if we don't agree with each other, thats mine from first hand experience how bout you dump off your high horse.

@@finfam9565 awe thank you so much and I am so sorry to hear she, and you as a parent are having to go through this, I know how difficult it is for both of you. Its amazing to here shes doing better now, that makes me so happy for you both and great job not just medicating her to solve her problem, to many parents go that route, mine did and I believe as yes it might been necessary at times because I was really struggling and my mom didn't know what to do she was just trying to help, I believe in the long run it can be very damaging for multiple reasons because it can make it impossible to develop natural coping skills for your child in the future, as well as possibly being bad for her ect. Im sure you're very aware of all of this as you sound like a great parent that truly is concerned for your daughters well being, I commend you for that and being understanding. Don't worry she sounds like she will be just fine even if its something she has to deal with for the rest of her life, as long as she has the support system (you sound like a great one) that she needs and learns earlier than later coping mechanisms to deal with it properly and feels she has someone who understands her so she doesn't feel bad about dealing with something different. Thats my humble advice to you as someone who dealt with a similar thing and is now an adult, not that it seems you need any advice it sounds like you're doing great! Wishing your daughter and you the absolute best, I have hope everything is going to be just fine for ya'll.
