Every great sci-fi series has great weaponry and Mass Effect is no different! But could its Omni-Tool resemble another iconic Star Wars weapon in real life? Kyle sheds some light on this episode of Because Science. Never before seen on the Because Science Channel! - Наука та технологія

An omnitool has been stated to be made of purely light and interacted with using Haptic Adaptive Interface technology similar to what you mentioned. A special micro chip in the user's gloves tracks the users finger positions and reacts accordingly. With the holographic display mainly just serving as a visual guide for the correct positions. When in the correct positions, force feedback is applied by by motion accelerometers in the gloves to make the hologram feel tangible. You also don't need gloves. Committed computer users often "go bareskined", having the chip and accelerometers surgically implanted into their own hands
The omniblade itself is a disposable diamond hard blade flash forged from the omnitool's fabricator. The blade is made from omnigel, which is made of common industrial ceramics, plastics and light alloys melted down into a liquid paste and used in the fabricator. It's common for soldiers to melt down scraps of material or even their own non-essential gear on the battlefield for other purposes. Such as the repair and modification of more essential equipment. The blade is also almost entirely see-through, with it's signature orange glow actually being holographic warning lights outlining where the edges of the blade are for safety reasons
Funny how Kyle and Because Science will post a video at the exact same time but Kyle's will get way more views. Even when old Kyle is in the thumbnail. Shows just how important the host is to the success of a show.

You should do a series on how strong benders from Avatar are. There are lots of examples of Aang and Katara cutting things with water or air. It would be an interesting series to observe all 4 elements, and the most powerful ways they are used.

That is absolutely astounding. The voxels really intrigue me because in years to come, we may actually have our own EDI computer AIs.
Only thing is in Mass Effect, they have the fictional Element Zero that allows for the creation of mass effect fields when powered by electrical charges. I don't think we'll have this kind of stuff in our world, ever, but the idea of light that can be touched safely as well as burn through things (not to mention haptic feedback) would be great.
Next week, how do you power it? That's the real question with energy-based weapons. Standard firearms are far more efficient. Granted, you don't get the spiffy GUI. Also, would it run Linux?
Given the in-game lore about how it's mostly tech nerds who customize and fine tune the omni-tools, I'd expect so.

Haptic gloves are actually the way that most normal people interact with those holographic displays in-lore. The people who get the surgery to have the feedback devices in their fingers so they don’t need gloves are considered a bit weird and nerdy in-universe.

It would be really awesome and super useful. With that kind of tool you could manipulate the size and shape of the blade, which would really help in different scenarios. Like cutting someone out if a car wreck or just production of metal things. I hope someone actually uses this technology in this way in the future
Oh absolutely it can and would be but of course like we see in the mass effect games it would also be a weapon for war. I could see the blade being used as a replacement for the jaws of life like firefighters use. It would be quicker, safer, and more compact and easy to carry around not to mention it wouldn't require so many people in order to operate.

Okay that does make a lot of sense. But what if it was something like hard light that the green lanturn rings are able to create. The hard light fits all of the discriptions the the omni-blade. But I am still unsure if it is a better awnser then the plasma. Still confused on a lot of it. If hard light is a option could you do a video about how it works?

What about making a blade with programmable matter?
The cool thing about the mass effect is that you can create a blade as this as plasma, but give it all the punch of a firearm or cannon.
4:33 but the plasma is suspended in a particular point in space, it's not connected to your arm at all is it? So if you were to move your arm while looking at this the screen or using the "plasma blade" as you described, it wouldn't move with you. Or can you explain how it would?

Would you please cover the ammunition system from mass effect? Is something like that pheasable?
They just used Railguns powered by element zero instead of of magnets and either prevent overheating with controlled fire or thermal clips which must be made from a combo of highly heat conductive parts and good insulation we have acces to that technology but much less advanced.
I love holograms theyre both cool useful and low on power consuming usually

Did you know that Mass Effect lore says that they once used haptic gloves in order to type on those "holographic" keyboards, but finally replaced them with microchips under the skin of the tip of the fingers? Does this information would make you reconsider your explanation?
Just fyi: This episode is three years old and Kyle has long left the channel. But they keep editing and re-releasing old stuff because just having Kyle in the thumbnail gets them lots of views.

What is "hard light"? And is it possible with the science we currently know about? We've seen it used in several sci-fi universes such as Halo where hard light shields and ammunition are used

Hard light is just a science fiction trope. It's not real and it's not possible with today's technology.
@@JasonWW2000 it could be possible 100 years from now. Who knows really, there are breakthroughs everyday on the field of science so maybe we could one day have a light bridge.

It's analytics and automation that you're seeing here. They both know based on previous info when it's best to release videos "like" this. It's our habits that cause this.
