I LOVE how much Liam struggles with Chetney because outside of the game everyone thinks Chetney is fucking hilarious, Liam included, but in canon Orym dislikes him at first due to his abrasive personality and dislike of Dorian, so you see this hilarious combination of an angry glare and a barely-holding-back-laughter expression

I also think there's a part of the fact that Liam as a player definitely wants to have Travis there, but Orym as a character has no discernable reason for that. Basically, the character(s) and the player(s) are on the exact opposites, creating a bit of a dissonance
@@A_Dragovich Tbh that's the thing most people forget about dnd. In no way would most characters take the massive risks epic fantasy protagonists do; but that's what we as players want to do! No way in hell would my veteran fighter who is adventuring for coin so he can settle down go fight the dragon that is literally razing cities; but I want to have that epic story so he is gonna go kill that fucking dragon!
@@treacle4617 honestly it's how I excuse the tendency towards lawless madness almost every party devolves into. Part of it comes from being level 12+ living weapons in a world of 1s and 2s, but you really would need a few screws loose to get involved with any kind of dnd adventure

FCG is certainly an interesting take on a cleric, being a robot who so far does not appear to be powered by divine magic. (And as such having all if his spells/abilities reflavored)
I am loving the characters so far, orym and laudna in particular. Its harder to pick a favorite than past campaigns.

In fact sam nearly always wears the same shirt he wore in the same episode number of the previous campaign. Just because it doesnt have someones face on it, doesnt mean it isnt still a troll.

I think one of my favorite things about this campaign is how Sam is NOT the crazy chaotic one, Travis and Ashley are everything LOL
As much as I love crazy & wacky Sam Riegel. I'm kinda happy they switched up the dynamic a bit so Sam gets a chance to show his more responsible and helpful character whilst Ashley and Travis get to go all out wacky and crazy
(And whatever the fuck laudena is)
I like how he can be wacky with FGC but at the same time through play and through combat he is more helpful and aiding. However his race kind of lets him channel his wackiness.
yet his strategist/backdoor leadership qualities shine thru no matter what role he's playing. that's not a detriment, as Sam is great at asking questions the others might not have thought of, or just speaking up when no one else will
Sam has a LOT of great qualities as a role player. He is fun to watch in any role.

Is nobody going to comment on how the family drama section was so well acted out? Like everyone is talking about Travis coming back and yeah that's awesome and all. But I feel it shouldn't overshadow the awesome acting between Dorian and his brother. Like it's probably the most serious and emotional moment besides the death of Travis's previous character.
To be fair, I think the death of Bertrand was planned and Chetney is Travis his real character. Not that much tragedy if you think about it like that.

There's something about having 8 people at the table that's just satisying. I love that it's equal visually, but also Robbie just fits in so well with them.
Definitely too many for a normal Dnd game but thankfully the cast are well behaved (usually) and Matt is a maestro.

You can tell Travis really missed being in the game. Holy hell he had the best lines this session.
I know they are narative focused but the amount of time Travis spent sitting on the side lines "for the story" is crazy.
In a normal home game you only do that when someone has IRL reasons they cant attend for multiple sessions.

He and Matt agreed that Bertrand would be killed off early so long as Travis didn't know how or when it would happen so Chetney could show up later. It's not just for the story, it's a weeks-long dedication to a bit

i love cyrus. he's meant to be the elder brother, first heir to the wyvernwind's legacy, and expected to be really responsible. however, i love how he comes off as naive and almost younger when he's with dorian becuase cyrus has also been completely sheltered all his life.
i also really love how he acts so smug about the wyvernwind and seems used to being known based off his lineage. it's pretty endearing

Orym doing the "I'm watching you" after stepping up to the grouchy old man to make sure he knows not everyone is a pushover was great characterization, from both Liam and Travis' parts. To me at least it made it instantly clear what Chetney is doing: Testing the waters by targeting the most insecure (and by appearance youngest or close-to-youngest) member of their little group. I'm sure the comedy was there too, but the moment Imogen threw Chetney off and stood up for him he went on the reluctant backpedal. Then Orym putting it even more firmly forward seemed to almost instantly satisfy Chetney, he backed up on the hostility and his body language became apologetic for a time. Was interesting to watch from both actors.

Laudna is my absolute favorite character that Marisha has ever played. She’s so bubbly and loving but comes off as creepy and intimidating. Like if the girl from the ring or morticia adams was your fun aunt. I’m unsure if she’s my favorite in all of crit role though. Jester, Caleb, Chetney and Grog are pretty high up there too.
Love Laudna, but I think I would still set fire to every other CR character just to keep Jester warm.

"Party healer is a walking healing potion keg" is actually a pretty good idea for an automaton/warforged cleric. Its "spells" would just be spraying party members and opponents with different chemicals. Alternatively, you could make it an artificer/alchemist build.
Just needs a spray gun arm. And he's set. Like a weed sprayer. Everyone just has to make sure they pump him regularly.

I adore Travis getting his chance to lean into the funny character stuff. Usually Sam gets the spotlight for whacky shenanigans but he is killing it.
At this point half of the cast is full time comic relief, and I'm both excited and horrified thinking about how this will go in the long run :D

Cant help but agree. I think he is recycling old characters to help drive the story forward in several ways. First, it allows the idea of guests, which currently is not happening due to covid, and second, it allows Matt to help steer the story in the direction he wants by having a player character helper that the rest feel obligated to follow the ideas of!
That's been my thought, Travis plays a bunch of older characters that are quickly killed off one after the other until eventually his real character emerges.
Sam joked last episode that Travis would be their "Spinal Tap drummer" this season. I want that joke to become true, if at least accidentally.
