I love how Aabria is so emotionally invested in the ex-wife character that she starts huffing at the idea of her ex bringing some hot new thing to the party whose name he can't even remember, but then she immediately loses it at "Bolo"
Oh her and Travis playing off of each other as quiet as they can just makes the scene even better.

Lou and Brennan were in UCB together and is in a home game with Brennan in addition to D20 so he's seen him do this multiple times in multiple ways.

The pause and delivery of "can you...destroy?" takes me out every single time.
Even in a throw away JOKE Brennan sneaks in details about Aeor "It would be illegal to ask these questions" and of course Bolo wouldn't see the "bag" as a machine since Aeor has their own sentient metal citizens - Aeormatons.

The coolest thing is, you can see that Brennan didn't have to create her at all. Sam was ready to just say the name and move on, but as soon as she introduced herself he also jumped in immediately. The improv chemistry of the two is amazing, we need more.

I didn't know about Aeormatons when I first met "Bolo from Aeor" in Calamity. Now that I know more, her distaste for simple automaton servants seems less like "dumb mail-order bride" and more like "I've learned to expect far better than this, but a language barrier is keeping me from fully articulating my frustration." Well played, Brennan Lee Mulligan. 🙂 This bit has layers that make it work as both a superficial joke and commentary about cultural differences (while still being a good gag, in a totally different way). 🤯

Yes! I'm a year late but YES BLM totally nailed that Aeor vibe without being over the top. They were a high-tech civilisation, a hodmadod is the equivalent of a vacuum cleaner. It was a nice subtle way to point out the idea that Aeor was far advanced or at least used more advance robots for menial tasks.
I think out of any cast members, Travis's laugh is the most contagious to me. The second he starts going, I can't stop.
For me, it's Marisha. When she gets that "I have to focus on breathing" laugh going, I am 100% done.
Oh wait until Brennan gets Lou going. The man is a fan favorite on Dropout for a reason

im gonna guess that the hodmedod she was messing with ends up becoming the one that malfunctions and starts whispering the ghor dranas shit, brennan made her from aeor afterall and he dropped that aeor was becoming more warlike in its tech and attacking other cities, so maybe its connected

This is a small thing in comparison, with all the amazing stuff happening, but does anyone else think that Bolos confusion in dealing with the atomaton is that she is from Aeor and therefore used to actually sentient aeormatons? Hence why she calls it a bag, as it is made of cloth and in her eyes not even close to a real atomaton. Also I can't help but think, that Brennan already had planed for there to be a Aeorian spy in the city and then changed it to be Bolo, when Sam came up with the character, or that he came up with idea of there being a Aeorian spy, and that spy being Bolo when he came up with the idea of her being from Aeor. I guess what I am saying is that I think Bolo is a Aeorian spy.. ;)
It makes perfect sense that Bolo doesn't consider the bags to be real automatons because she's from Aeor. I love that. Thank you for adding that to my head canon about her.
I dont think there's going to be a spy in the city, let alone it being Bolo. Remember is Aeor that's the city that's going to be attacked for the sole purpose of a dry run for an actual attack elsewhere.
Now that you mention it.... It is almost like he saw a perfect opportunity to have them interact with an Aeor citizen for exposition plot drop without actually making it a story focus.... It's the perfect opportunity to explore Aeor stuff without sidetracking the actual story. Using known-to-be inconsequential NPC's for background info is a useful tool in its own right, and it would make sense for a citizen of Aeor to think that a humanoid shaped sack of cloth without sentience is effectively a walking bag.

A generally good 2nd rule is basically 'don't let a bit lose its energy'. So long as the 'humor' of the scene is not lost or especially if those 'in the spotlight' are not able to find a way to continue the bit.

reminds me of Jawbone from fantasy high nameless NPC who with one question became a big part of all the characters lifes.
I just watched this earlier today, and aside from the Colbert one-shots, this was my first experience with Critical Role, or really anything D&D outside of Dimension 20. This moment was made me feel right at home, and it’s made all the better by the fact that the one losing it is a famous voice actor. Can’t wait for more. I might even go right into the sequel campaign after this one ends.
