I found it really fun to see Fernando smirking when you said spanish music. He wanted so badly to say "Corridos Dean, Corridos!"
I had my first epicenter in 1988. I'm old, and cool at the same time.
Which kind do you recommend for my first choice because ive never owned one but I feel like I could benefit from one for my sub
@@RomaVilla audio control all the way
The Epicenter was originally made under the product name of "Phase Coupled Activator" as a home stereo product. It was designed to restore bass when listening to vinyl records, where the mastering engineer would filter out the lowest bass notes from the master studio tapes. This was done because vinyl records couldn't hold the lowest frequencies without throwing the needle from the record groove. The "PCA" restore the bass lost during the mastering process.
...... and then throws the needle off your turntable. LOL
How do you know this where did u learn this
I remember reading that.
Thank you guys, a much need video for sure. Adding this to any factory stereo will be life changing.
Very needed video on youtube. Very good detail and durning question came up but u answered all them! Much thanks!
I love that he said use your ears, some of us are ignorant in the ways of doing what he did but still crave the perfect sound.
You're the best Dean!
Thanks for the video fellas.
Great video and explanation. And it was nice that they both wore matching shirts.
Great tutorial. Bring on part 2.
Great video. Really breaks things down for such a mysterious device.
Awesome video! Been contemplating whether or not to get one
Thank you. Very comprehensive!
Man! You guys are great!
Amazing video and videos and channel. Love your channel. And both of yall
Guys love your videos I've learned a lot I'm already audio inclined paint and I know how to do simple installations. For the most part I have always tried to do my own at work in my own car except this time I needed help
I need this because i listen to a lot of metal
Great demo this is the best explanation of it I have seen sofar
Ah lovely stuff cheers for that Boyz xx
Thanks for this video. I always wondered what it was for.
Excellent and tentatively detailed. Perfect.....been looking for this video about the Epi for over 10 years.....thanks guys.......if you can, can you show us how to use it with your mids and highs? Thanks again!!!!
Word up yo! I really needed that info for my soon coming purchase of an epicenter
Exactly. It's not a bass restoration device, it actually CREATES bass notes that were never there. It's amazing for music with no or very little deep bass, so it actually makes a new version of the song which is amazing. If however you engage an epicenter with music that already has deep bass, it can make the bass worse and cause random bass cancellation and muddy notes. I've used the trunk mount epicenters and they are very cool but now I'm considering the dash mount because that's their only model that allows the processing to be disabled yet still allows control of the sub volume (or at least that's what it appears, as Audiocontrol still hasn't responded to my message). This is the best informational video I've seen, most people simply believe the epicenter brings back bass that was "lost" when that simply isn't how it works.
it recreates from the sampling of the upper harmonics, what im confused about is he said youll want your lpfs set as close to 250 as you can get it my deck is crossed over at 80hz same with my amp
@@Arker57 the epicenter requires a full range signal going into it. If you hook it to the sub level rcas they may not be full range so you may only be able to jack up the head units crossover point to maybe 250 Hz at the highest which would be fine or better yet turn the HU crossover off if possible but alot you cant so set to as close to 250 hz as possible. Now use the crossover in your amp instead and as you normally would set at 80 Hz or so.
I didn't know I wanted to see this but glad I watched
I found this very useful and I plan on adding a epicenter to my set up which consist of a and 300.4 V3 and JL 1200.1 V3 on 2 12”s W7s.any input on this set up is encouraged.Maryland showing ❤️
Great video I have always had Epicenter on my systems. Also helps with compressed music files.
Bass boost is good for sealed boxes love it
Yes!! I got me one. Adjustable bass 🔊🔊 corridos, smooth Jazz, and deep house 🔊🙏🏼✌🏼
Thanks Dean & Fernando see you on the next one. Bye 👋🏼
Epicenter es famoso para los Corridos y la Banda. Si eres Mexicano tienes que tener uno obligado.😉
Ruben Martinez true that
So tienes 3 18s no necesitas El epicenter
Aldo Villela tengo 2s 15” si lo necesito. La verda si suena con madres con el epicentro
Que marca de bajos tienes?
Aldo Villela 2 L7s y una planta kicker KX 2400.1 a 2 ohms
wish you guys had a shop in Cali thx for the info!
I'mma go get me one... thanks for the indepth review
My favorite audio component
Guys do good work 💪
never heard of it but now i want one.
Just ordered my first bass restorer. I'm listening to more and more old school hip hop
I am going to try one of these.
Did it make a difference?
I second that rcandminilover. I'm curious how the indash performs as well. I watched this episode a few days ago and did some more research about the epicenter. As I'm typing this, it's sitting at the QT in the amazon locker lol. But I got the one that goes in the back. I'm thinking about wiring it closer to the driver position so I can play with the sound without having to pop my trunk.
My favorite part was when you took her top off!
Dean would make an excellent teacher! He really knows his stuff...
When tuned right, you can hear it on all sorts of music, even brand new 2022 rap/ hip hop.
The fact that u mentioned Van Halen makes me like that much more. Since sadly losing Eddie Van Halen to cancer a few weeks ago, i know that i will be PUMPING the full VH cataloge someday (when i'm emotionally ready for it), and was thinking that an epi may make the experience even better. What a coincidence that the 1st epi vid i watch mentions VH. Thanks guys!
este video deberia de tener 20,000 likes
I just got my 1 million edition .. I’m #2505/5000🔊 thanks for this video it’s perfect
I love epicenters. I have the old school without the two knobs on the top
Everything Fernando said was correct!
Would you place the Epicenter in the signal path, BEFORE or AFTER an external EQ (Audio Control EQS)
I was in car audio for about 20 years combined and never installed one. I was under the impression it dropped the bass parameter one octave.
I have a Type R 12" sub. Should I use a ported box or sealed for the best effect? Also should the size of my box be exactly what's recommended by the manufacturer in volume? I believe 1 cubic foot.
In our build we changed the PFM subsonic chip to a 1hz chip, now we can create decaf songs on the go haha.
1hz?
15hz
that lil removeable chip were u can put the voltage from 2,5 to 10 volts do this mean it restore bass amplifys it and a line out ? does it put out clean power
There was a pioneer stereo that had a similar effect in the early 2000’s. I think the setting was called octave or octavizer. It only made the effect with certain songs though..not with most of them. I think it was a deh-p8000r or the premier version of it.
Sorry if that didn't make sense. I have one 4 channel amp to my stock speakers I have what Epic Center and then in monoblock amp to a sub all which is directly connected from a regular cheap hi to low converter.
You would want the LC7i or a LCQ1
Best investment I’ve ever made!
Can you do a comparison between the Micro Epicenter and the Hifonics BXIPRO 3.0. There is very little information out there about the effect comparison. Pice between them is very different. Thanks.
Question: the epicenter uses pfm chips which are essentially subsonic filter chips. So does that mean i can set my mono amps ssf all the way to the left/lowest setting as the epicenter is already using a pfm/ssf chip?
I have a 2018 GMC Sierra and have a custom center console with 2 SA x12s tuned to 32hz and a Hifonics Goliath 5000 amp. Stock bose speakers and headunit with an Lc2i. Before i added the Lc2i it sounded really weak but with it it sounds alot better. Am i damaging my subs with it? I know it has alot to do with my stock headunit but i really dont want to change it as it has alot of my truck info in it like all newer cars and stuff
does turning it up all the way cause the amplifier to clip. Should I turn the knob up all the way and set the amp gains? or it doesn't matter?
"Spanish polka style music" Lol (Corrido)
Epicenter is great when used correctly. It digitally recreates lowest bass notes 1 octave lower than in recording. Though I feel it's not great for all music especially tracks with heavy bass already in it.
Exactly correct rap beats with low bass it should be off
what would be the best epicenter for home or PA speakers with subwoofer? thx
I love the epicenter, I have two of them. 1 for each of my cars.
Is it worth it
@@anthonyacosta929 absolutely! However I do recommend that you get the upgraded 18Db 14 pin 15hz chip it will give you the wides lower frequency range that the Epicenter can do vs the standard 33hz chip it comes with. www.audiocontrol.com/product/crossover-pfm-modules/
It’s totally worth it for those times you feel like you don’t even have subs.
Can a you adapt this to use at home with an SVS PB16 to increase its weak bass output?
Awesome informative video! Question is, does my system need an Epicenter or AccuBass? (Lc7i, Lc2i, etc)
so youll want you lpf on headunit at 250 and lpf on sub amp all the way up to 250 as well?
So basically it samples a frequency, synthesizes it and lowers it one octave? DBX made a sub harmonic synthesizer years ago that did just that. Most radio broadcasters use this method to make the older music fuller sounding.
Yes you got it, that is how it works.
I have a pioneer 201 ex and a Rockford mono amp on two ten subs and have the kicker key amp on my components I could I use the epicenter
Nice video but I rarely use bass boosters.
Even though i listen to Earth Wind and Fire or van halen that lack bass but many head units out there have so many features that can help you in those moments.
If u love low frequency bass you need this no head unit can do what the epicenter do
It’s not a bass booster. That’s the whole point. No headunit and do what this thing does. It’s literally magic.
So with an Epicenter you can adjust the Bleeps, the Sweeps and the Creeps. Awesome 😅😅😬👍👍
For the next video please test the output vs the input voltage in relation with the knob. For example, if the head unit has an output of 2.5 volts, and the epicenter is set to 5 volts, will the output be 5 volts even with the knob all the way down? Or only 5 volts with the knob all the way up.
The output never changes if it set too 5 volts then 5 volts will come out all the time. When you turn the knob up the only thing it does is boost the frequency of the track, hence "bass restoration".
My amp says input sensitivity: 5v - 0.15v and working voltage: 8.5v - 15v. Should I leave the epicenter on 5v or change it?
@@HIGHROLLAZAUTOCLUB best thing to do is to set your epicenter's output voltage at the same voltage as your head unit's output. For example, if your head unit outputs 2.5 volts, set your epicenter at 2.5 and set the amplifier gain accordingly.
@@danielyepez7196 my head unit is a triple 5v preouts. But the way I have it hooked up is from my equalizer. From the deck to the main input of the equalizer. Then from the bass output of the equalizer to the input of the epicenter. Then from the output of the epicenter to the input of my bass amp. Let me know if I did something wrong or if I got to set my settings on the deck or equalizer.
Why didn't you guys hook up a DD-1? I try not to use my epi that much because I'm afraid it might distort the signal at some point. 2000w RMS to a single sub wouldn't take long to cook a coil, imo. This is by far the best epicenter explanation video and thanks for showing the tuning!
I would suggest that you try to set your gain with the epicenter knob at half turn, with a 80 or 100hz tone. So you can be sure you're not clipping your amplifier when using the epicenter.
It also has to do with your amplifier gain settings and where your head unit distorts though.
Do a review on the Pioneer AVH-600EX PLEASE!!
We will
I appreciate the explanation and the visual representation, but I wish you could have played something so that I would be able to hear the difference.
Check out the end of this video, we do a demo of it.
It's time for a Hummer 3 with some crazy loud sound PART 2 Install Dairies 91ua-cam.com/video/Py99DImcmrs/v-deo.html
I’m here for the Spanish music 🎶
Beastie Boys Brass Monkey sound really weird with my epicenter turned up do you know why? Also some of my bass heavy music sound strange too. I have to turn the knob all the way down to get the original sound and lose that deep bass but I feel like that's better than distorted bass notes. Just very frustrated with tuning the epicenter.
I got same issue. It makes my bass distorted i feel the same way idk if its cuz of style of sub box. I have a truck box under my ram seats.
Hey. When using on a avh4800bs double din..do i connect the sub out from deck into the in on the epicenter? Or do i use the rear channel out from deck to in on epi? Im asking cuz i heard the epi needs a full range signal to work properly and if i use sub out and turn off the crossover setting in deck..im not sure if that will give me full range or not? The highest it goes is 200hz on the sub crossover on the head unit and there is off but no idea what range that goes up to. Pls tell me the right way. Thanks
Akuma4u did you ever figure it out i was literally thinking the same thing right now
They never answered that question huh? Plus the epicenter doesn't work good for songs that already have bass
the guys in the group said this would basically reduce the bass on newer songs & increase bass on old songs.........such as Van Halen 2 ....... Giving me a more consistant Bass output. I want a way to get more consistant bass, not so much of a difference in bass between say VH II & Gojira or new metal.
Will the epicenter work with ole school r and b, jazz, gospel
I don't think any car audio equipment made in the last ten years need the RCA's grounded. It was more common in the 90's and early 2000's. It has been phased out for ease of installation.
Is the epicenter the same as a base doubler ? They look identical do they function identically
Can I use the epicenter from the radio to the audio control s6 1200 ?
I have one with no remote an it doesn't seem to work without it
What is the standard PFM module value that it comes with? I have one but the module is missing and audiocontrol asks for type and frequency when purchasing a replacement.
Shane Reyes 33 Hz
Gentry Morris They don't have 33hz but I guess 35hz will work. Would it be 18db?
Shane Reyes the standard PFM module that it comes with from the manufacturer is 33 Hz but to answer your question, yes it’s the 18dB 14 Pin module you’ll need. As per your listening delights you can choose which frequency is best suited for you 🙂
I have a 2012 Infiniti G37 sedan with the premium Bose system with subwoofer of course that's stock subwoofer was not enough so I added my own subwoofer but I was scared to tap into premium system. So I paid an audio installer to hook up my subwoofer my sub amp and also a Epic Center and also a 4 channel amp to my stock Bose speaker I know for a fact that he used a regular cheap high to low converter I'm sure I can make my sound sound so much better with the lc2i or do I need to lc7i and how do I connect this please help
Should touch on how the epicenter effects the signal. Alot of flea markets will sell noobies these, install them and they will just crank it not knowing any better. Terrible distortion and clipping if not careful.
They sell the cheap ones at the flea market never really seen audio control
What’s the difference between running an epicenter and listening to the song rebassed?
I have an epicenter knob and I also have a bass knob. Would I use one or the other or both, and why?
Both, one controls your amp and the other just enhances missing bass notes
Epicenter plus
how do i determine how much voltage my amp can handle lets say i wanna set the jumper to 10v how do i determinate if that's to high
Ask manufacturer of amp or see if you can find a manual online for it
I have one but it makes my music sound like crap I guess I just don't know how to tune it. Help anyone?
Great information, thank you for putting this video together. Regarding setting the crossovers, would this work? - HU has 2 pre-outs and I'll, run both full range. Use rear pre-out to Epicenter, then to sub amp and use amp's built in crossover. Front pre-out run directly to speaker amp (no external crossover) and use either the amp's crossover or the HU's high-pass crossover. Thanks again for the information.
If you do that , then just apply the Lowpass in the amplifier around 60-80hz
On mine I first tried a full range but I can't turn off the high pass filter on my stereo which can only go down to 50hz. So what I did was, I used my subwoofer pre out RCAs and connected it them the epicenter but on my head unit I changed the sub low-pass filter to highest setting on mine which is 200hz. Sounds damned good that way
@@Luminous.Dynamics yeah, if you leave the Lowpass on the Subwoofer at least @160-200hz it will do the job
And then you just use the crossover on the amplifier around 60-80hz
@@fernandoleanos8593
Right right. That's exactly how I have it right now since I couldn't run a full range signal from my pioneer 80prs that could even go under 50hz. That stereo has 5 volt outputs and the epicenter is set at the original 5-volt output to the amplifier. The gain setting on the amp is all the way down to where it says 5 volts, kind of hesitating to turn gain up on amp just in case it might hurt rather than help. Only thing I'm wondering right now is how to precisely pick where I want the frequency to be centered. Do you know what frequency it's at with the "Wide" parabass control set right to the middle on epicenter?
@@Luminous.Dynamics the "parabass" is set @40hz from factory
Is that how the accubass works? Also I'm on my second lc6.1200 and neither had the gto working. I had the first one replaced but didn't want to do without again a second time. It wasn't a major problem since I planned ahead and used a remote.
No, Accubass is to fix bass roll off. That is when the Factory radios limits the bass sound as you turn up the volume. Accubass is a tool to fix factory radios, the epicenter is to add harmonic bass to a song that does not have any.
Five Star Car Stereo Thanks.
so it's a subharmonic synthesizer? that's what i was thinking.
How many Epicenters would it take to restore the bass in Metallica's Justice album?
Why is some Audiocontrol product black and some white. ?
( same models)
Same models different color
huh.. if this can really kick up the old led zepplin van halen etc i might need one
If the effect could be turned completely off on the knob i would get an epicenter for all the classic rock i like but i also listen to bass heavy music rap rebass dj magic mike etc and i heard the epicenter doesn’t work so great with that music type and actually causes problems like distortion . A shame bc i would enjoy it on older music and would buy one if that major issue was addressed. Enjoyed the video very well explained!
It does work like that! With the knob all the way down the effect no longer works with the epicenter in use you must turn off the subwoofer crossover and when you hear rebassed music you then turn on the crossover again without the epicenter.
@@whatfoo661 I actually bought one to try out but haven’t hooked it up yet so good to know!
@@jkstdstang Nice! This epicenter makes a world of difference with alot of different music man if you need help with installing it or anything let me know here I'll reply!
Anything you guys can speak on about the soundstream bx series. Are they the same as the epicenter? I have the soundstream bx-15 . Can you guys explain these in one of you videos.
Initial Pro soundstream are good products, but the epicenter is way better
Soundstream made knockoffs for half the price and they don't require u buy chips they are infact better
My old man has one and it seems to work well, but you never know if they dirty up the signal compared to the Audio Control

Would I need to re tune my gain on the amp after adding one of theese?
Yes
