      @@Fearzero Most of Edward's live solos were sloppy. He wasn't a very technically proficient player. He was more interested in feel. Even the famous Live Without a Net guitar solo had errors in it. It was part of his mystique that he had no problem with "mistakes" while he played. He said it was part of his "noodling" process. lol
      I think at Farm Aid he was really nervous stepping out from his Van Halen band comfort zone after the recent exit of Roth. He was still getting a feel for Hagar having his own guitar and being a good singer with a very different style than Dave. He was happy though.

    I think that most people forget is that Eddie has always written all the music. Sammy did not change Van Halen into a softer more pop oriented sound, he allowed Eddie to simply stretch out and write different styles of music that he hadn't written up to that point. Hell 1984 started that movement as it had 3 keyboard tunes. Jump, I'll Wait and the title track 1984) Eddie is an incredible musician and needed to stretch out musically. Sammy allowed it. That's all.

      +Blah Playhard Led Zeppelin was horrible live. This is a much better live rendition than any live performance by Led Zeppelin. You should check out Led Zeppelin's live versions of rock and roll. Slow, low energy; Plant doesn't hit any of the high notes; Page is slow, and Bonham is flat. JPJ is the only one decent live. I was a Led Zeppelin's fan based on their studio recordings, but because they are so awful live, over the years, I felt that they were really not good musicians. They were good recording artists. Their few live album, the Song Remains the Same has to be one of the worst live albums of all time, if not the worst live album of all time. Around the same time, Deep Purple was putting out Live In Japan ... now that's a great live album.

      Joe Johnston You Sir are a fucking idiot. The 4 members of Zeppelin were great musicians. Not many drummers were better than Bonzo. John Paul Jones could play anything. Plant had an awesome voice and Page is a guitar god. And they were great live. IMO they are the best band to ever grace this planet!

      Mmmm...yes and no (agree and disagree)....e.g. the difference between LZ 'Live at Albert Hall 1970' and 'The Song Remains the Same 1973' are marked. The first has life, incredible energy, and rawness to it. The second is bloated and boring, a band that could still kick ass but looks and sounds bored at times, choosing to shine at certain points and but coast through others.
      I've read others make the point that LZ was more of a studio band, and after this much time, I'm inclined to agree. It's not that they couldn't 'bring it' live, it's just seems to me that they're best was saved for the albums, esp in the second half of their career.

    • @jameswright1879
      @jameswright1879 7 років тому +3

      Arthur Bishop mmmmm. No and No (100% incorrect and 100% incorrect). 1. You said "Led Zeppelin are horrible live" then claimed you thought the performance at the Royal Albert Hall had "life, incredible energy and rawness" so that makes your first statement invalid. 2. Listening to the bootlegs I've got possession of from the 73 tour shows me that they have incredible energy, more creative, more refined and less raw and an aura envied by the other rock bands of the era. The 75 tour bootlegs I own show Jones got even better, Bonham was less technical but packed more punch, Page and Plant had lost their talents for certain gigs due to an excessive Rock n Rock lifestyle but other gigs showed they could still do it with enough cocaine in the system. The 77 tour showed they were not the fresh technically gifted talents they were in the early days and some shows were poor, again due to the rock and roll lifestyle but still gave powerful performances that hit to the core and carried the same aura that drew hundreds of thousands to see them on the tour, some say the 77 gigs are their personal favourites. The gigs of 1980 showed they had toned down considerably and had gone back to basics as the life of excess had caught up with them. Do not forget they were doing 3 hour + shows for the gigs of the 70's, they played every concert with such energy and never held back, so no there was no boredom, the boredom only started to show at knebworth in 79, Pages heroin addiction, Bonhams drinking coupled with loneliness, the death of Plants son. The O2 gig in 2007 was a brilliant gig also. Having said all of that they have been bootlegged more than any other band so the evidence of their god like and at times human attributes will always be here for our listening pleasure, my personal favourites are the 75 gigs because they are the longest. Amazing studio recordings and for the most part the best live band to ever hit the ears. Finally, this performance of rock n roll is not better than ANY of Zeppelins live performances, including the infamous Kashmir blunder, this sounds like cheesy advert music.
