@@tweetybird59 Probably Roger is better than Rick and the more successful songwriter, but Roger Hodgson is not Supertramp. Only the interaction of both (or with the whole group) brought the success of Supertramp. His (Roger) solo career wasn't particularly successful either. And "Fools Overture" is lengthy, a typical progressive rock number. I like "Crime of the Century" a lot more.

The track became Supertramp's last US Top 40 single to date, peaking at number 28 on the Billboard singles charts in the spring of 1985. It also crossed over to the dance charts, peaking at number 9. They played this in the dance clubs. Think about that.

When I was buying a new high-end stereo about 30 years ago, the salesman put this record on the turntable and put it on this song and cranked it up. He knew what he was doing -- the album had just come out and this song has all of the sounds to put a high-end stereo through its paces and show it off (or reveal the limitations of a lower-end one). I bought that stereo then and use this song on CD whenever I'm testing out a new sound system (for the home or car).

I had just bought a Onkyo amp and tuner and my old Altec speakers just didn''t sound very good anymore. The guy put on Bloody Well Right on a pair of Yamaha 690's and I was awe stricken. They didn't have any new ones in stock so I bought the floor models at a discount and had them shipped to western Nebraska where I was living at the time. They never made it. They got stolen in transit. Got a new pair for the same price so I guess I couldn't complain. I still have them and they still sound great.

Interesting...in 1975, my dad went to a very high-end stereo store in Kansas City. The salesman put on an album called Thelma Houston and Pressure Cooker, one of the Sheffield Lab Direct to Disc albums, turned up the speakers and Dad came home with a tuner, turntable and Klipsch Heresy speakers which I still have to this day. Bought a set of Bozak speakers for upstaris. That album had the same effect as Supertramp on him.

I realized I'd wake my parents if I played it too low because we were all trained to sleep through loud noises. Had the song books and all and since I could read music I introduced myself to more to sing to. Still my favorite to this very day. I saw them the first time when I was 4. People were tripped out this little girl knew all the words and sung it perfectly. I still remember majority of their lyrics to this day. Yes!

Christian Bosch Pink Floyd I'll let you away with & the rest good but.....top 5.....no way my friend you need to listen to some more music. I mean diarrhoea come on they did some tight songs but....& queen I love them, Freddie best performer ever in his way....Genesis I can't really dig at all but my wife argues the case for them (sledgehammer does ma fuckin box in). BUT back to the point I'm fairly newly getting into supertramp I must admit & really growing in my estimation all the time

I've always felt this group was greatly underrated, but what an interesting sound they had....and guaranteed at some point to get your foot tapping. This particular effort is one example to actually make it into the dance clubs back then, and considering it's essentially just 2 chords, that's no easy task. Great sound, catchy beat...a real winner!
