"The animation's a lot more fluid than I thought it was going to be." That's because they brought in a guest animator to do the opening titles - everyone's favourite balancing horse!
Welcome to one of my all-time favorite cartoons. I came across it back when it aired, showed my roommates at the time this episode, and got them all hooked.
Welcome to _Gravity Falls!_ Make sure to fasten your seatbelts - it is a _wild_ ride. 😁 The first season is mostly introduction, in an episodic format, with a minor arc of its own, and season 2 starts tying (almost) everything together. Here’s a non-spoiling prediction for you: At some point, you will feel the urge to go back to this episode, thinking “Wait! Was that _actually there_ in those early episodes? That would be amazing!” You’ll find that the answer is, “Yes it was, and you’re correct - it _is_ amazing.” 😉
Oh, since you are a fan of _Legend of Zelda_ you may enjoy knowing that Mabel’s little “twirl and hold up” move at 18:36 when she acquires the Grappling Hook was a deliberate reference to one of the games.
YES. THE series that had creator Alex Hirsch helped kickstart what is called “The Hirschverse.” He’s basically the one who helped give fellow Disney TV creators a voice in their own work. Names like Daron Nefcy, Matt Braly, and of course Owl Lady herself Dana Terrace.
The splinter thing makes me flinch every time because I’ve had nasty splinters a few too many times. You get a 3 inch long splinter, you never see unpolished wood the same again
Over the Garden Wall is great to watch in the transition period of Autumn, honestly you can watch it as a roughly 100 minute movie in an afternoon, but if you have a sense of Samhain/All Hallows etc as a marker of a time when the veil is a bit thinner, I don't know what Autumn in Scotland is like, but if there's a day that feels particularly cozy and pleasantly dreary and just all around autumnal, watch it on that day. It's a magical experience that warrants a fluffy blanket and cup of hot tea (or hot cocoa)
I watched this show with my niece when it first aired. I love the jokes and attention to detail the show has. It’s good that you enjoy the background details of shows because that means you’ll enjoy this show a lot as it’s creator also likes putting details in the background that’ll get referenced later on...sometimes in the same episode and sometimes in other episodes. The show literally builds upon itself so by the end of it you definitely feel like every episode was important. There’s some whispering in the opening credits and some ciphers in the end credits in season 1 that are clues for the audience. Sometimes when decoded they give reference to a joke about the episode and sometimes they hint at the bigger mysteries in the series. My niece did all of them for season 1, but we didn’t realize at the time of first watching that the shorts that played while we were waiting on season 2 to premiere also contained ciphers to decode and then season 2 goes crazy with ciphers, codes, etc that my niece only solved a few of them at the time it was airing. She likes doing puzzles so this was one of her favorite things about the show. I personally enjoyed the storytelling and the jokes so it was fun to watch along with her. When Disney released the entire show on DVD/Bluray I bought my niece and myself each the box set. Now that we have Disney+ we definitely go back and rewatch it from time to time. Each time we watch we notice other neat details we missed from the last time. It’s definitely a show with a lot of rewatchability if you are someone who likes to go back and rewatch shows. But watching it the first time is pretty fun. You’ll definitely get to know more about a lot of the people in Gravity Falls, including Wendy, so you have that to look forward to. I understand about the animation style maybe keeping some people at bay. It is a show created originally for the channel Disney XD so the style is probably more to do with that than anything else. If the show had been done in the styles you indicated, I think there are things in the show that Disney definitely wouldn’t have allowed. So in a way, the animation style helps it get around some of that. You’ll understand what I’m talking about the further you get into it. It’s only two seasons, so you’ll be done with the series before you realize it. I definitely recommend watching the shorts after you finish season 1 and before starting season 2. Not just because they’re clever and funny, but because there’s some things in them that if you’re observing the background or listening to what seems like a throwaway comment by a character you’ll realize that it’s a reference back to the shorts. You don’t have to watch them to still enjoy the show, just like you don’t have to do the ciphers or care about details and the background. You can enjoy the show without doing any of that. I’ve shown friends this show who didn’t want to watch the shorts nor did they pay attention to details and the background and they loved the show all the way through. I didn’t realize you started a reaction channel. I am subscribed to your other channel, although YT is wonky in notifying me about it (and several other channels I’ve been subscribed to for a long time; not sure if they fixed something and caused an issue in the process or what, but I tend to get notifications more for channels I more recently subscribed to; it didn’t always do that I figure it’ll go back to like it was at some point). I enjoy watching your reaction! Thanks for making and sharing this video! I’ve definitely subscribed so as not to miss more reactions! Glad YT recommended this video!!!

I loved this episode, and the series seems like a lot of fun, but I have not made the time to watch more than a handful of episodes. It's weird and wacky, so it's right in line with what I really enjoy very much, but it just hasn't worked out to see more of it. My favourite Zelda game was always Zelda 2: the Adventure of Link, because that's the one I grew up with way back playing on the NES. Then, after hearing so many good things about it, I played Breath of the Wild, and now Breath of the Wild is by far my favourite Zelda game... I think you're going to really like Gravity Falls, just like you really liked Breath of the Wild. There's *so much more* to the show than just a silly cartoon for kids. Just as an example, I literally just realized (and this really isn't a spoiler) that in the multi-part series finale there's a callback to Stan's "Eeny, meeny, miny, you" line in this episode. Gravity Falls is a show where most of it was planned out from the start, and it really shows. There are so many little details and throwaway jokes in early episodes that you'd think are meaningless, but are actually connected to things in much later episodes (which may be important, or may just be a continuation of a joke).
Oh boy. I hope you do react to Over the Garden Wall as well. Both that and Gravity Falls are my two favorite animated shows. It's the perfect Halloween/Fall show.

Really? Well, we can just imagine him being trans. There are very few situations, where this is gonna matter anyway. I doubt anyone in gravity falls is a transphobe, except maybe the Northwest family.
It seems to me like a more moderate version of Dexter's Lab. The siblings are not complete opposites (genius and idiot) and in the end, someone had a secret room like Dexter's laboratory. It's like the Nordic/ Scandinavian version. This is just my take on it. You seemed quite smitten with this cartoon even though not your cup of tea. Also, I never understood how people like you who train groups of people at work and make these kinds of videos basically constantly in front of people say you are not confident in yourself. You must be. Statistics say that people would rather be the guy in the coffin at a funeral than the one in front of everyone giving the eulogy. I think you're confusing confidence with something else. Plus, I have confidence in you, if for nothing else but to brighten my day with your videos(remember I'm the Tammy addict).
