Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
This is from a brief period when Disney was a little less saccharine, going for a slightly older crowd. There are two others that are related, Amphibia and The Owl House, both of which are also excellent.
Also, it's not the same voice actor.
Dipper's voice is Jason Ritter. Hiccup's voice is Jay Baruchel.

What I love about this show is that it's a complete story meaning it has a beginning, a middle and an end. Most cartoons are forced to churn out episode after episode just to satisfy corporate greed. Hirsch was adamant, he has a story to tell, 2 seasons and thats it.
Without Gravity Falls, some of Disney's best animated shows wouldn't even exist.
Some examples include Amphibia, Star Vs. and of course, Owl House
The twins are twelve years old, Stan is in his 60s, Soos is 22, and Wendy is 15! These are gonna be the few main characters for the first couple of episodes, I believe, and more are introduced as the show goes on.
this show is great at giving you that youthful feeling but still using dark themes and situations

Watch The Owl House or Amphibia next. Gravity Falls and both of the shows I just mentioned are all connected both in lore and in real life since the people who worked on Gravity Falls made The Owl House and Amphibia too. But I recommend going Amphibia first since while the stories of the shows are unrelated The Owl House has plenty of Amphibia references which you wouldn't understand unless you watched Amphibia, and Amphibia has a lot Gravity Falls references too, far more than The Owl House, so it's better to go with Amphibia next. Also all three shows have secret code hidden in the background, but Gravity Falls having secret codes EVERYWHERE even in the intro and outro. Either you guys try to decipher them yourselves or look them up or someone far smarter than me will post all the secrets of the episodes in the comments I dunno.

This show was one of those shows I remember watching the Premiere of as a little kid back when it first started airing.
I was at my Grandpas house and it was an absolute blast.
I love this show with all my heart and, I haven’t even started the video yet but I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I continue to do all these years later.

One of my all time favorite shows and it's only 40 episodes long + some shorts and a canon comic called Lost Legends (a fandub of which can be found on UA-cam). The journal that Dipper finds in this episode can also be bought in real life and is an exact copy of the one seen in the show. S1 is mostly set-up and lays the groundwork for stuff that happens in S2. At the end of each episode is also a cipher, with the clue to solve it being whispered at the intros end. They're not required to enjoy the show but they do add more lore to it so if you want you can do them on your own time for fun.

Neat to see you guys enjoy it so far. I’m excited to see you guys tackle the next episodes. Maybe try out the other popular Disney cartoons of that era, like “Amphibia” & “The Owl House”.
This show did come out when there was a good amount of well loved cartoons coming out in a row in the 2010s, like “Adventure Time” & “Steven Universe”. So that might explain how it felt like this show took you back in some form.
While it’s a fun show, there will be moments where thinking is required. Like how there are hidden codes to decipher in the episodes. Like in some of the backgrounds and in the credits. There’s even a backwards message played in the opening that varies from certain episodes. Also this show has a recurring plot. It’s still episodic at most, but there’s still plot on occasion to keep an eye on centered around the Journal Dipper found.
I don’t think the voice of Dipper, Jason Ritter, did a character in “How To Train Your Dragon”. I think this was his first voice acting role. Although there is a voice actor from that movie that will play a character in this show, so keep your eyes…or ears…out for that

This is one of my favorite shows. Along with Shera and the Princesses of Power (So good it's on Netflix) and the brand new X-Men97 (Disney+)

u should rlly pay attention to details because gravity falls is a show where u need to pause and read background texts and stuff like this. also in the post credits there is a code in every single one which u have to decifer but thats not mandatory
