Tiger-Fist is a play on The Six Million Dollar Man. It's an older show, like 'my mother's childhood' old. I only know about it because she always repeated the tagline, "We can rebuild him... We have the technology."
Little Fun Fact: Wendy is bisexual and was actually supposed to name a girl as well when she listed people she broke up with, but Disney didn't allow it.
another fun fact about wendy's exes, their names a combinations of the names of various exes of Alex Hirsch (show creator) and his sister ! didn't knew that Wendy was supposed to name a girl, I know Alex confirmed that she is indeed bi (and that her middle name is Blerble... to quote the full tweet *_"Everything I say about Gravity Falls is canon. Wendy's middle name is Blerble. Now you all have to live with that. THIS IS TOO MUCH POWER"_* ) and I knew Disney prevented LGBTQ+ background characters in GF so I'm not surprised
I don’t actually think that she was supposed to name a girl… I’ve seen like all the content and it has never said that. She is confirmed bisexual, but I don’t believe that she was ever supposed to name a girl.
TW: abuse. the reason mabel couldn't say no is a play on consent and how its essential in relationships and how relationships are unhealthy and unhappy when functioning on lies. how many victims in power abused relationships are too afraid or manipulated into thinking its bad to say no to or reject their manipulator. They're often guilted into silence because their abuser may react negatively. not to mention many of their dates were in public, and no one wants to cause a scene. they even touch on this when the crowd watched his "proposal" and spoke about how sad they'd be if she said no (why public proposals can be problematic to the decision making process). and Gideon was especially attached and clingy and mabel knew any space she may initiate, gideon would be upset. which he is. very much so.
Gravity falls first aired in 2012, and ended in 2016. So projection probably started in 2011, and the base idea of it comes from Alex Hirsch childhood which he spent summer at his great aunt place with is twin sister. So any jokes that are enhance by recent events are pure happenstance.
You know, it can be argued that this episode showed gravity falls as more then what you'd expect. Dealing with pressures people go through when faced with dating and realising that sometimes you can't say yes to what you don't want to do, it helps make gravity falls a more mature show to watch, not just looking into mysteries and solving the supernatural. That's probably why it's my favourite show so far: it's emotionally mature!
I can see how many little things might mean more in this show, but other times, like the clown painting doesn’t mean anything, just Stan wanting to steal it. I’m glad you’re enjoying this show
Me when I read the title : Huh, I don't remember the episode, must be some filler, still excited to see her react to it tho Me after the episode starts : OH SHIT IT'S ONE OF THE IMPORTANT ONES YOOOO
Mabel thought she found her stereotypical sassy gay friend like in so many girl's movies at and before this show; but Gideon was instead a spoiled stalker type who can't take no for an answer; as he is so spoiled that he can't comprehend someone telling him no without there being some other forces behind it conspiring against him.
The "triangle with an eye" resembles the Eye of Providence, which is an actual symbol meant to represent the "all-seeing eye of God" and appears in a lot of symbolism, especially in the US where it's featured on the $1 bill (and, consequently, in a number of conspiracy theories). It can be safely looked up without spoiling what relevance it may or may not have in the show, too.
The early episodes use a caesar cipher where all letters are shifted a certain number of spaces along the alphabet. In this case, shift every letter of the message by three places and you get (Spoiler) (but not an actual spoiler since it's a joke about something you noticed in this episode, and an answer to a non-plot question you had) : "CARLA, WHY WONT YOU CALL ME?"
What I LOVE is that there is tons of extra cyphers and hidden things but you can enjoy the show without any of the extras and it's still a perfect series.
i love your paranoia about the show 😄 trying to se hidden meanings and conspiracys in everything is exactly the way you are meant to enjoy the show 😁 keep up the good work !!
If you're looking for clues and ciphers, they're there! But the show is a wonderful story with amazing characters, and the secrets are just an extra treat.
I only ever knew one girl that had a jewel on her tooth back in school. And I really wondered why she did that. So apparently that was a thing that just completly went past me? Thank you for lifting that mystery.
I’m pretty sure the message at the end is a callback to the message you read at 2:32 if you take each letter and replace it with the letter three spaces back in the alphabet the message says, “Carla, why won’t you call me?”
I'm not sure if anyone said this already, but there are two simple reasons Stan couldn't say no to Gideon's dad (Buddy Gleeful). 1) Bud is a Used Car salesman and good at talking people into buying whatever he's selling. In this case, his son and Mabel becoming a couple. 2) Stan is obsessed with money (for good reason). When Bud told him that the kids getting together would be a good way for them to pool their profits, Stan was hooked.
fun fact: One of Eda's exes is actually Stan, not just that but Alex Hirsch (GF creator) and Dana Terrace (TOH creator) are a couple. Since this is the gossip episode, I thought it would be fun to say it
today i learned how to decode gravity falls messages and i started actually clapping at the genious minds of the creators. my genuine and absolute respect
5:35 I hope people don’t see all Americans as 1960’s era televangelists, thats ROUGH lmao I’m so glad they’ve mostly faded into obscurity in recent decades because e u g h It’s amazing how well Gideon parodies that whole phenomenon
...Eh, as a guy, I can't really tell one way or another if Mabel's makeover is any good. However, I've always believed in the credence of "less is more", and I think she may have done too much.
......... Well now.... you don't trust this show to see into the future??? *shifty eyes* I keep thinking this was made around the same time as The Owl House hahaha
I've watched this show several times now and only just noticed how much Gideon's office in The Club looks like the Waiting Room / Red Room from Twin Peaks. Which. I think means The Club is The One-Eyed Jack? Which is...UPSETTING. Gideon why are you hanging out in a backwood brothel? You are nine.
I am way to late for this, but: Deceivering the code at the end takes a lot of time if you don't just look it up online. The Blind Wave crew had seasons where they looked for hours to find the right... key... :)
i know i'm several months late but when it comes to the ciphers i recommend just going to the wiki and looking through them there, the creator loves mysteries and codes so there's not one cipher but several so it's just way to much work to decipher each episode.
Since you mentioned us yanks and our different use of the word "pants", I thought it was weird in the last episode when wax Sherlock called Dipper a "boy in short pants" instead of just calling them shorts. Anyone else catch that?
I'm pretty sure the 'jewel on tooth' thing never hit the states. The closest was there was a period where a part of the Black community was interested in 'grills'; covers or something to make teeth seem gold? It was pretty short lived.

I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet, but if not, a fantastic show to check out would be the Cuphead Show. It’s got some great humor and is overall pretty fun to watch.
The title is a play on The Hand That Rocks The Cradle which was a thriller about a crazy babysitter back in the nineties. And Gideon's shtick is based on travelling Evangelists. It was mostly a southern thing and pretty much the product of being in a country that was founded by religious nutcases.

I hope this isn't seen as offensive. It's a weird but neat coincidence that the last 2 gravity falls reactors I watched both mentioned having partial deafness. Cosmic coincidences are very fun and weird.
I mean, when the character doing the pressuring was introduced in the “Tent of Telepathy”, the line before “guessing” Mabel’s name was “I’ll read your mind if I am able”, and in the first instance of Mabel having trouble saying no, he swears on his lucky bolo tie and the jewel on it shines suspiciously? It’s not a massive leap of logic to assume something supernatural’s going on. She’s definitely not the only reactor to have come to that conclusion, either. If I had to guess, I’d say it probably has something to do with their audience constantly telling them “There are secrets! Mysteries! Analyse everything or you’ll miss the super important clues!!!”
The jewel gave Gideon telekinesis but the influence over the town is just charisma (As far as I know). Well that and good old fashioned manipulation

Li'l Gideon's look is based off of an actual person. A "child psychic" that would appear on TV, complete with suit and white hair.

The Cipher wheel is at the end of every intro.

Gideon is legit based off of Television Evangelicals, people like him do exist except they replace psychic with Jesus

"That was definitively new" no it wasn't
The key is in the intro, but it's kinda hard to hear. It's just a simple letter substitution cipher , for example F=J or something.
