And the 20 percent that does actually pay doesn’t complain either. It’s already been calculated that even if you were to pay 100k u still need to put in about 117 hrs of grinding to actually max everything out. On the other hand it’s also been calculated that you can max everything out as a f2p player in about 260-320 hours. There is nothing that keeps you from the end game, there is no paywall unless you hate progressing slowly. If anything this is an anti whale strat because it shows no matter how much money you throw at this game you still have to put in the time and effort to actually grind everything out.

I realized that Blizzard probably set the pay 2 win really high in the beta so they could "hear the community" and lower it, but to the point they originally wanted it set but figured would be too steep without going way high first.
Thinking optimistically, starting very high then lowering over time is much more digestible than starting low then raising prices. I say optimistically though because there could be malice in their decisions.

these games are addictive the same way slot machines are. They know what they are doing, feeding ludopaths for their daily dopamine dose while making huge amounts of money. As sad as it sounds, that´s blizzard nowadays, and I did not expect anything less
there are people out there who excuse the p2w with needing financing for development. as if this piece of garbage needed that much dev ressources. they use old characters, old monsters, old classes and abilities. they have no in depth systems that need proper balancing. their art is old and reused/reskinned. their story is pieced together from old story lines. the art and coding is most likely done by some 3rd world country artist/developers that are paid peanuts. tell me where the fuck the money goes. not into the development of blizzard games, thats for certain. so sick of people praising the 'quality and polish' of games like this. ofc its polished, there is pretty much nothing to polish there.
This stuff can be a real issue and I hope people don’t fall for it. When these systems are designed there is a stigma that only stupid people give money but that’s not how it works. Mental health is a real issue and people struggle with many problems in their life, it’s easy to judge others actions when you are not in their situation. I was put on SSRIs due to memory related problems and wasn’t aware this could cause long lasting manic episodes where I lost all sense of judgement and impulse control. I was aware but my brain would rationalize every bad decision. I’m not dumb by any means and I have a good paying job but still, it hurt a lot. I spent over $50k on a mobile gotcha game in less than 1 year. Bank never called to ask about my spending or anything, there is no protection for people who are in vulnerable mental states until they lose everything to these addictions.
@@zz4165 Not really, a lot of them can become numb to their surroundings and become completely emerged into the mobile games because it's their only way of socializing or escape. Due to how easily accessible they are lots of people in bad situations can turn to them instead of facing the issues around them. With my diagnosis I would easily categorize mobile games in my top 10 list of problems at that time.
I'm sorry you experienced that. Mental health is not a joke. That being said it's not anyone's job to look out for other people. Mobile games are obviously predatory, but if you choose to spend money on them that is your choice, and it's not anyone's job to prevent you from doing so. If you were in a position to spend 50k on a mobile game then you were in a position to help yourself and get your meds in order. A lot of people don't even make 50k in a year and are struggling to make ends meet due to crazy inflation the past two years and you blew 50k on a game. That is not what gaming has become that is what AAA gaming has become there is all kinds of double A games out there that yes may release an expansion and ask 15-20 bucks for it but it's going to be a very good one and I love double A games because they're almost always finished 90% of the time you get those ones that are they ran out of time and money but yeah double A games are very good like greedfall the salt and Sanctuary series yet to side-scroller Castlevania type game but it doesn't matter it's complete .Fuck even Elden ring but that's a AAA that's a full game 150 billion percent complete I think fromsoftware will never go under as far as the studio goes ,unless they get absorbed by a bigger one then you'll see monetization
It was really thoughtful of them to add footprint trails directly on the ground so people wouldn't have to look at the minimap to have their hands held. At least they realize their customers are "special"
actually its to promote faster, more direct progress. The more they follow the footprints, the less they backtrack to get loot, etc. = The more often they spend to be competent
I remember when D3 came out with a real money auction house with blizzard getting a cut from the sales and adjusting drop rates so they would maximize their profits. Man, I remember the shitstorm we caused until they took it out of the game. We were so upset and angry about how greedy and disgusting this practice was. Boy, we were so naive, those were tame methods of monetization compared to what is normal nowadays, let alone what they've put into this shitshow of a game.
Regarding the staying factor of blizzard games, I have been playing D2 resurrected and really having a blast. Game is awesome it has a feel and a look that just pulls me in. I never liked D3. It looked cartoonish and bright and wrong... And the gameplay felt a bit off. This one is even worse... I don't know if I will get D4. But D2R is my go to game for now. It just looks right. It looks dark and hopeless.
D2 probably has more staying power than any other game ever made. What else can you think of that had a dedicated player base going for over 20 years, excluding the popular speed running games?
@@erykszymanski9167 yeah. I played it about 20 years ago for quite a while and now I am back in it and feel complete lost XD. The story is amazing and the loot reward is just... I did 3 countess runs yesterday and got some nice runes out of it.
@@Kalergi_Plan_Accelerationist watching others play is still a form of experiencing it Yeah, you can't use that for some things like how the gameplay actually _feels_ However, there's a lot you can gauge like how aggressive the monetization model is, whether the opening story act hooks interest, how systems tie together for incentives, etc. Someone previously on the fence about playing could very understandably be deterred from what we're seeing already. It's even possible this initial version is just establishing an anchoring bias for people to go "see they're listening" later if these aggressive practices get relaxed, but the new Blizzard is clearly showing they're always going to push _against_ the players as far as they can get away with. This killed any last remaining interest I had in Diablo IV.
@@Kalergi_Plan_Accelerationist Sure for some people but for someone like me, it's not a good experience having invasive marketing regularly tossed at my face. The game itself, is fine, I like the artstyle, I like the combat, I like the theme. However, the balancing is completely destroyed and the shop is a disgusting shit. It's the same business model.
What do you mean by "Everything is too easy because it's designed to reel you in to buy from the shop"? Shouldn't the game rather be hard to so people feel the urge to buy stuff from shop? Or do you mean they first lure you in the game and then later the shop starts to become more important for progress and at that point people have already invested some time to game already and feel that "maybe I just buy a little bit"? :)

Asmon spent money just because he wanted not because he needed I watched the stream. I'm lvl 21 and did not spend even a $1 in the game it was just about 2 hours of play for me to hit that lvl no big deal with no boosts
The thing is, aggressively purchasing all these packs so early on is actually ruining the questing experience for him by making him consitently overpowered for the level of challenge presented. In my experience, as far as strictly the F2P story progression goes, it is fairly well balanced to what you have access to while spending no money and has been at least decently entertaining enough to keep me playing. The main quest line has been entirely voice acted the entire way so far (although I'm only lvl 35 so not very far yet, but I suspect it will stay that way from the size of the download packs) and has been wayyyy more coherent and engaging then the typical mobile game experience. I think Blizzard has legitimately tried to please everyone by making a solid F2P experience while also doing their best to hook the whales that get off on excessive power trips and have way too much money to blow; but unfortunately I think preconceived prejudices will prevent many people from enjoying this game for what it has to offer. *Disclaimer* I do not endorse or support the ridiculous P2W and in app purchases in the game, but I have the wherewithal to not feel excessive FOMO that would sour my play experience (at least not yet, I'm sure once I get closer to end game I'll end up dropping it once the imbalance becomes more prevalent and prevents good PVP play)

For those who suffering that kind of mental issues, gacha games are not even in the top10 of troubles.
@@zz4165 Not really, a lot of them can become numb to their surroundings and become completely emerged into the mobile games because it's their only way of socializing or escape. @@Kalergi_Plan_Accelerationist watching others play is still a form of experiencing it
Yeah, you can't use that for some things like how the gameplay actually _feels_
However, there's a lot you can gauge like how aggressive the monetization model is, whether the opening story act hooks interest, how systems tie together for incentives, etc.
Damn, blizzard lost another paid customer...wait, you're not paying anyway, nobody lost anything.
@@Kalergi_Plan_Accelerationist Sure for some people but for someone like me, it's not a good experience having invasive marketing regularly tossed at my face. I am still unable to do the eight man content against the Lassal (or however it's spelled) because I am gear score 370 when it recommends 430.
It is harder and harder to upgrade gear and gems, as access to Greater Rift Crests and materials are incredibly hard to come by.
All in all, Diablo Immortal is a disappointing game as the combat is fun and many of the dungeons have unique mechanics to make the memorable, but it is a slog to play through.
the fact you had hope for this game astonishes me ong
It's actually insane how Blizzard always makes their games always so p2w lmao. I just downloaded Diablo Immortal and I'm probably gonna delete it lmao. Good for Asmon showing his audience what p2w is really like, but I don't wanna waste my time with a game that I have to spend money to progress. That's the reason why I quit lost ark lmao.
I'm a level 35 barbarian haven't spent a penny. No paywall yet. Other comments say it's perfectly beatable F2P, unless you want to be the most powerful person on a server you don't have to spend a penny. I'm playing for fun and story.
I never even downloaded the game istg they just put it on my phone
@@swaggadash9017 I love PvP but for diablo I rarely do. With battlegrounds I would want to PvP but due to it being P2W I'm gonna give it a miss. Even so I can't complain it's a free diablo game.
Blizzard is so out of touch they’ll probably see Asmon whaling as a win
and you are out of reality. in which dimension isnt this a win if this is already their goal?
It is.
@@cocacolaman7092 One streamer spending a shitload of money is nothing. Hes doing it so YOU dont do it. To show you how disgusting the system is. ONE person whaling is nothing my guy, especially if it paints the game like the trash fire it is and subsequently people STOP playing it.
@@Deathworg1 normal people, like 95% of the playerbase don´t even care about this. they get sucked in and they need to spend money to progress. they doesnt question the game or the system. they are playing, they are paying and then they are leaving. but until this point blizzard has already won

It would be interesting to see the net effect of these streams. I find them funny in that Asmon shows how blatantly greedy these games are. I wonder how the devs feel when they are implementing these mechanics.
Definitely puts me off ever trying this game and I fully expect all future blizz Activision games to be monetised like this.
@@Tolkfie I highly doubt the net effect is positive, sure it will show the clearer minded people that its pure p2w, but that is a minority, if it wasn't these games would not be profitable. He is just showing people how easy it is to feel powerful in Diablo, just a couple swipes

Level 28 haven't spent a dime yet, what did asmon spend on?
Mans spent 300 dollars like its nothing, but me over here 300 dollars is whether or not i eat for the month. 💀
It’s really funny too because he’s the same level as me, same part of the story, yet I still out damage him despite being f2p seems the only thing whaling did for him was make him look cool
@@gulag_sender2123 it's not hard to beat him, since all he does is trolling and hating on the game. If he actually cared about PLAYING the game instead of just making another money grabbing stream and youtube video then the result would be different (which is also sad).

Crazy to see that you aren't killing any faster than someone who didn't spend $347.
I love how he uses his own money as nothing but a portrayal of how ridiculous Blizzard's monetization is.
They never asked for our phones. The real question was: "Don't you guys have credit cards?"
I would have loved to see him spend over 1k just for the insanity of it.
Man, Blizzard really woke up to take a shit, but they forgot to leave the bed.
So... is it late to say "Blizzard Heard"?
Imagine spending the amount of 5 AAA games on a mobile game for a level 23 character
With fairly basic abilities if we are being honest (but perhaps it gets better as it goes). Nothing amazing so far. I was very quickly getting bored watching the combat that Asmon was doing, to the point where i think Asmon is making a mistake if he thinks he can sit there many hours a day and play this like he did on Lost Ark. People will tune out or go else where. This game doesnt have remotely as good combat as Lost Ark but yet its more pay 2 win and free players literally cannot get certain upgrades that paying ones can, the shit just doesnt drop.
He's doing it too entertain hundreds of thousands of people across twitch and youtube. I think people are completely losing sight of that.
He dont really need to spend money though, I passed lvl 23 without spending 1$ look at that...
@@mezzy7109 i know that's why he's doing it. I'm not bagging on him at all. The sad thing is that there are many people that are spending this much and they actually think they are getting a lot out of it. You'd be surprised how many people have this much money to spend and are just straight up throwing cash at blizzard
"We've ONLY spent $347 so far"
Yep, that's it for me. F this game.
A lot of dummies on Reddit saying Asmon's supporting p2w by spending money. No. It's the exact opposite. He's spending the money to show us what happens when you do, so NONE of us need to. We've seen the show, we've been along for the whale ride. Him giving them money on stream is costing blizzard SO much. If you can't hear the sarcasm practically dripping from Asmon this entire stream, you need to work on your social skills.
Lmao everyone already knows how pay to win games work of they're watching asmon play. It's an excuse to keep playing the blizzard games he loves without getting shit on for it. Like he did the exact same thing in lost ark already lol just excuses to play the way he wants, like a whale.
Soon we won't have anything to play without using our wallets.... :/

@@TapiKoks Maybe it is P2W after but as far I play I don't see any point to spend money.
"Yeah im lvl 23, and ive only spent $300" lol
Currently 38 without spending a penny, rift 7 np. Baal np. No sign of this alledged pay wall yet
@@johnplath1072 exactly, if there is any "paywall" it is probably just a soft/hard cap on how much one *can* spend to get ahead, not on how much one *has* to spend to just progress.

Yeah, gotta get that content out! "Look at me I'm exposing this by acting like an idiot on purpose!" I will probably never touch this game, but this is just pathetic. Usually Asmon is more level-headed than this.
