    That unforgettable sound of steam and whistle is like going back in time.may be the Railways should think about promoting steam tourism to show these beauties to the world.

    Thanks for your comments. It may be so in some cases , however the above video clip is a 'real' tourist charter service organised by Indian Railways for a British Tour group in 2008. There was about 30 foreign tourists in the coaches.

    I traveled on one such run in January 2007. The train was hauled by WP 7200 that still had the old American whistle, not this shrill one.

    I think they use such vintage engines for maintenance purposes now. The actual purpose of doing this is to keep the engine functional and eroded with time. Which is why they attach coaches also. Those coaches may not have any passengers except for Railway employees. All-in-all, it is strictly maintenance and/or a dry run for heritage runs.

    How many passenger coaches did a steam locomotive pull in the broad guage lines???

      It all depends on the loco. It could be as less as 3 coaches or it could be 100 coaches too as in the case of the Big Boy Union Pacific of USA which is the largest steam locomotive ever built in the world.

  • @sambhasivamjagadishan9563

    It's one of the best image of the locomotive. But work hard. Those who work this locomotive vary health and parfait body. All the parts of human working. Specially the firemen work. May be the speed average 60.K.M.P.H.

    • @aveekraymukherjee3386
      @aveekraymukherjee3386 3 роки тому +1

      No. They could pick up to 100 kmph. Frontier Mail used to run in this speed when hauled by these newly imported American/Canadian dark goddesses

  • @cyruslovesindia

    I don't get it. In UK there are so many steam locomotives functional daily. Even on mainlines. They've got so many operational steam locomotives in perfect running condition. Why India can't have the same. There are steam locomotive trains in France, Germany, USA, Russia, China, SA etc. But not India very sad.

    • @pranavchaware

      Coal is definitely becoming lesser in this world. Plus, coal smoke adds to pollution, more than diesel. Maintaining steam locomotive is not simple & easy

      @@NavazuddinShaik Yes but those first 316 WP engines which were produced and came directly from USA and Canada, had roaring whistles (unlike normal general British-made and/or British-modelled WG steam ladies). Later, when these WP locos started to be made in India, especially in Chittaranjan, they were fit with traditional Indian high-pitch steam whistles.
