I was on this train in 1994. This journey across the Aravali brings out the poet in you. NO wonder The loco driver Mr Rathod says although Iam a driver, all my life I have been a traveller. There are a few things which technology cannot replace, like this one , the pristine journey of an era long vanished. The video gave great joy especially because of my father who was,
like the driver a 'proud' railway man.

Here is a man who loves what he does. Its very important. In your life you must do what you love.
i did recall my childhood journey on meter gauge railway from Pune to Miraj and then from Miraj to Londha and then to Madgaon Goa. It was a real pleasure to travel during heavy monsoon to Goa via Londha, Castle-rock, Colem to Sanvordem. It was impossible to miss the glory of Doodhsagar, the grand waterfall on the border of Karnataka and Goa. This clip made me remember my old golden days. Thanks.
The driver of this train must have enjoyed his life to fullest because he loved what he did. One of the most fortunate men. Hats off to him.

What life in this train. We are not outside the scene; we live it intensely in the cab of the locomotive engine as in passenger cars. We are here for the party for his last trip. The end of an era, sad and emotional. There is NOTHING like steam locomotives and the people who work them, from the call boy to the driver. Ive not been to India but i can tell you one thing for sure, all enginemen all over the world are part of the same family i can clearly see this. Ive never seen a driver not offer a fellow engineman a ride (or even a swing on the bango or regulator) on the footplate wherever possible, its a common bond no matter where you hail from.I see other comments by locals lamenting failure to preserve these engines, its sad but please don't blame yourselves, sometimes these things cant be done. Ive run steam locomotives on multiple now dead railways,i just try to remember what was rather than lament the fact that they no longer operate.I don't think there was much if anything i (or anybody else)could have done at the time.
All the best to you all,may you fire be hot, your water high and the safety valve feathering.Bless you all.

After watching this video I felt emotional and I wish I was born in that era when steam engines ruled the Indian railways. I always wanted to be a loco pilot. 😞
Loco pilot Sir Ramlal Yadav was the most humble and down to earth human being and had a great sense of humor.
Hats off to his driving skill.
    Hats off to those fireman

I am 1989 born.. this was the time when most of the steam locomotives pulled out from the main line... I just have a faded memory of whistling sound team loco. But never got a chance to see them working... 😔. Sometimes I felt like Indian railways just killed them.
Still Indian railway is capable to run steem locos on main line

In my childhood, i used to watch the steam locomotive haul train. My house was close to the railway station in a village. The drivers always talked to me in a sweet way as I was only a small child. There was a rhytham to the locomotive. A majestic look also. Today, I can see electic locomotive flies with tremendous speed. A nostalgic feeling of my very childhood memories. Everything changed. Life became so fast. Never returning old days....tears well up in my tears.....

That was not the last journey of the engine and its fortunate pilot Mr. Raman, but that was end of a glorious era. I mentioned Mr Raman as fortunate because he worked with steam engines since 15 years, one of the favorites of rail lovers. He kept on giving life to his engine everytime and the same was done to him by his engine too. I loved the way Mr Raman enjoyed dancing on chugging notes of the steam loco. This shows how much he loved his work every bit of every day. I always dreamt of driving a loco though I was unfortunate for not getting into such a position. However, by this inevitable film and through the moves of Mr Raman, I have lived my dream today. A very very thanks to the makers behind this documentary.

Dear Pratik Rathod. It is really fantastic . Just now, by accidentally, I saw this video. Truly amazing. Your Grandpa Mr Ramanlal would've been a very very nice human being. During the journey, he used to acknowledge the wishes of those poor people , young ones with goats in fields & adhiwasi girls with firewoods. It is touching everyone's hearts. He would have loved his very very tough job of steam engine driver from body language itself one can understand & acknowledge. During his last journey of his driving career, he was so sad when we look at his face which is understandable by everyone. Since, every one in his career , should face his last day in whatever post he occupies. Really an epic journey which was filmed so nice & so it's presentation. Hats off & thanks for filming & bringing such an epic journey & unforgettable memories of Legend like Mr Raman lal.. D Selvaraj Coimbatore

My maternal grandfather was use to be prominent loco pilot who gave his service both in steam engine and diesel engine and also my uncle's gave service in diesel and electric engines . I got very emotional watching this video. My grandfather always use to say how tough back then to work in steam engines especially he started from fireman and retired as no 1 locopilot with zero remarks from south eastern railway back than Bengal Nagpur railway it used to be. I am proud him . May his soul rest in peace

I know this meter gauge section well, going back to the early '50s. From Ahmedabad , Mt Abu, Mehsana Jn left to Jodhpur etc: Udaipur & Rajkot. Ajmer was a big division, it had the oldest Loco Workshop and boasted of manufacturing India's first Locomotive in 1926 or thereabouts. The meter gauge line went on to Old Delhi Station. It is true that engine drivers were a special breed and took immense pride in the cleanliness of their engines and would deck it it out with with lights and shiny brass fittings and other gimmicks; even their crew, the fireman and oilers and cleaners were inspected for their turnout. The senior A- Grade Mail engine drivers were a haughty lot. Mostly anglo indians, parsis, musalmaans from certain parts of the country and selected upper crust hindus. They were like family. It was an unforgettable and glorious era.

Salutes to the makers of the video. For today's youth, this is a window into the past, a reminiscence of the beauty and calm of a rural life of a bygone era we have never seen ourselves. The steam engine has a charisma that no electric or diesel engine can boast of. It's a vehicle of magic, veiled in majestic cloud of white, chugging along, pulling up the fire of passions.

I watched this video in July 2020 during lockdown period. I think it is not a good video at all......... it is too very very good and a nostalgic video much much better than a Bollywood blockbuster. It portrays sincerity of a person towards his work, humbleness, true dedication towards his work not only for livelihood but for his undaunted love to serve humanity. it is very touching to see his life. Ramanlal Rathod the engine driver's life should be a learning lesson for today's youth. Not all can afford high education or have aptitude for becoming doctor , scientist, engineer etc., this video of Ramanlal Rathod teaches us how to love the work we do and not regret for not becoming engineers doctors etc. Driver Ramanlal has shown his responsibility for transporting thousands of passengers safely through his 30 years of service in all seasons of the years, bearing the worst working conditions, that too with a smile and even dance at times and has no regrets. He even spends money from his own pocket to keep his official equipment look extremely charming. This is sheer dedication and love for work.
