Imagine doing the Sinjoh ruins late at night as a kid, not knowing what was awaiting you, and getting haunted by that cutscene for the rest of the year
hmmmmm..... sounds like you have experience with that happening
@@SnappilyJosh i AM doing that right now bcuz i AM coming back FROM vacation
Ps i think i can be haunted only by the arceus. Image to honest
Or imagine being, like, a stoned teenager / young adult playing this game, thinking you're playing some fun kids game then all of a sudden bam you're hit with this cosmic acid trip and you are left wondering what the hell just happened. Are you hallucinating.? Is the game channeling demons? You'll never know.
oh god I don’t know that
The name Scorched Slab is a reference to one of the real-life locations said to be the famous "Ama no Iwato", the cave where the Sun Goddess Amaterasu hid herself for several days plunging the world into darkness, hence you find Sunny Day in it. The cave itself is located in the Miyazaki Prefecture of Takachiho in the island of Kyushu in Japan, and guess whhich part of Japan Hoenn was based on? DING DING DING! Kyushu!
That's actually pretty cool. I love that I know that now
Would be cool if you could find sun-related Pokemon there, like Solrock or maybe Ninetales (I assume that's part of why Heatran was there).
I love how Mikey calls the Sinjoh Ruins cutscene a "cosmic acid trip"

Ah, yes, my favorite region.

You’ve taken LSD?
BOM BOBOBOM BOBOBOBOBOBOBOM BOBOBOM BOBOBOM
Well he isn't wrong!
The scorched lab is based upon the Japanese myth of Amaterasu, the goddess of the Sun. She hid in a cave called Ama-no-Iwato to escape from her mad brother Susanoo, the God of storms, and therefore the Sun disappeared from the Earth. This is why you canfind sunny day in there in S/R/E! It's just a clever quote to Japanese mythology :)
... and it is moments like this that I start to suspect that I might be a bit of a weeb for having picked up on the mythos behind that name...
Apparently others did not.
@@NimhLabs well I did ahah, so you aren't the only one
That's so cool! I love when the games reference things like this. Speaking of which, I think it's pretty clever how Bronzor is based off of the bronze mirror of Amaterasu :)

That's what I thought!!!
The sinjoh ruins cutscene is cool as hell getting to know EXACTLY HOW palkia dialga and giratina came into being thanks to Arceus is such an amazing piece of Pokemon lore
UPDATE! I checked my soul silver file and was able to witness the sinjoh ruins event live!
It's safe to say that it's absolutely astounding

@@ReshiLuna *Mew flashbacks*
I thought it had something to do with the Regi Trio and then when you capture them you would have to use three of them at the same time to capture their creator.
@@babarshah6479 No, altering cave was believed to be a cave that connects Kanto And Hoenn together
@@rita-Shi-Mi Oh that sounds pretty cool! If that was the case maybe there might be more hints and people talking about the events in Kanto and how Red (Red is canon since he appeared in every game and is well known to have stopped Team Rocket) stopped Team Rocket since the Hoenn video games: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald happened at the same time as Fire Red and Leaf Green.
Anville Town is one of my favourite locations in Unova, actually! I used to go there all the time just to listen to the music and rest for a while.
Is it really that unusual to, y'know, _explore_ locations? I always search every nook and cranny and talk to every NPC when I play, precisely because I don't want to miss anything. And Anville wasn't that hard to find...
especially if you look at your map. if I recall correctly, its on there :0
Exactly! It kinda rubs me the wrong way when someone claims to be a fan of a rpg but then doesn't bother to explore when playing.
I always do a victory lap after the champion to find new unlocks and missed secrets.

People forgot Artisan Cave? That was my go-to training spot in Emerald! It's great because there are high level pokemon that can't really hurt you. If you use a non-damaging move the first turn, Smeargle isn't going to deal you any damage unless the battle drags on long enough to struggle. It's a great way to defeat high level pokemon with low level pokemon and get a good chunk of EXP.

ITS ARKOOS
These „empty places“ did give the games some good flair though. Even though they are forgettable and might not be that great when you’re an adult, as a kid I was theorising about what crazy things you could do be able to do in these „empty“ parts of the game, that simply hadn’t been found out yet.
Yea that was the best was spending a week figuring out its purpose and learning there is none. Unless its an event spot which i could never go to growing up in rura America
*raises hand enthusiastically* I know the reason for Anville Town!!
Unova is based on NYC with the starting area from B2W2 being New Jersey.
Humilau is based off of Long Island where I was born and raised and lived my entire life before the move to maine in a few years back
Anyway my best guess is that since the battle subway is based off of the actual subway system used in the city and this is the one subway with a definitive destination it looks to be based off of Hoboken New Jersey. It has several of the subway lines leading to it but only one with that being the only end point on one linear line straight from the city.
So the reason it is so forgettable is because it's Jersey :p (my native New Yorker side needs to poke fun at Jersey)
You informed geographical genius. I didn’t know how much I needed to know that. XD Thanks!
Where in Long Island are you from? I’m from sag harbor
The only reason I knew of Anville Town:
"What there is a subway in this game but it does not take you anywhere?" -> So then I actively looked for the option to go somewhere.
14:42. I was fortunate enough to get one by happenstance. I had no idea about the Ruins of Alph secret until I brought my Llama God with me. Needless to say I was confused yet intreged.

Me too! I started out technically in late gen 4, but my first game that i played on my own was white. I knew about Anville town but i agree with michael that it is so forgettable.
pathetic indeed
They should make the Sinjoh Ruins event accessible in Gen 2 remakes if you have save data from Legends Arceus. I didn't realize at the time how incredibly lucky I was to have gotten the Toys R Us Arceus to see the cutscene.
I think it's cool how they have locations like Altering Cave. It adds a layer of realism to the game, rather than having cliches like faraway caves that always have some kind of rare treasure in them.
That arceus cut scene scared the crap out of me the first time I watched it
You know what, same. But I was young when that happened. I was around 18-19 when I saw the Ultra-Necrozma scene, and it scared me so much more.
I'm around 15 and i just thought that scene was neat (I first saw it today on this video) It doesn't really seem scary to me, i mainly think it's pretty cool because it shows the entire side of arceus's head in very good detail while also having the real world backgrounds except put into 480p
@@IglisFlame_YT You're 15. I was nearing 12 or 13 when I 1st saw that scene.

that Sinjoh cut scene literally gives me chills, it doesn't feels like pokemon, feels like a really overwhelming force it pressing on your body. AS if the hands of God was hovering over you.
Emerald's Altering Cave has a special place in my heart. I am very good at RNGing shinies in Pokémon so I don't care as much about shinies as others might do. I actually didn't forget about Challenger's Cave or Anville Town. I was actually surprised that Challenger's Cave didn't return in Black 2/White 2. I always thought that the rocks blocking the entrance would be removed after beating the Pokemon League. But that wasn't the case.
I remember going into the scorched slab for the first time in Ruby/Sapphire. I'd already played ORAS, and was super stoked to find out what they did with this place before heatrean. at first I thought it wouldn't be there, but I looked anyway. Imagine my shock when I saw that it WAS there; imagine my disappointment when I realised it might as well have not have been.
I played both games (remakes included) and i dont even remember that place existed.
Not going to lie: I thought that Altering Cave would be more dramatic when I first entered it. Same goes for Tanoby Key.
It's funny that even the creator of this video forgot about Tanoby Key, that's how forgettable it was. At least Altering Cave is memorable for how pointless & disappointing it is. I remember actually forgetting I had to go to Tanoby Key to get the Unowns to appear in 1 playthrough of FRLG because of how forgettable a place it is.
There's a way to get a legit Hall of Origin Arceus by tweaking into the void in Diamond and Pearl.
i personally dont care but there are DEFINITELY some ppl who still see that as cheating
This has to be one of my favourite videos from you. And I'm glad I rewatched it now! There were many locations that I do remember, even before watching the video for the first time but I never knew their meaning besides the Sinjoh Ruins (thanks to /vp/) so this video still had and has great informational value to me.
How to change the forgettable to memorable
Altering Cave: multiple entrances, during different times of day or seasons, the tide changes allowing more or less of the cave to be explored.
Artisan Cave: Have people talk about it on the island. Just NPCs who like it or speak of it.
Scorched Slab: have it be a magma room, with you running into rare fire types
Sinjoh Ruins: collect all the Unown and have access to Arceus there.
Challenger's cave: Have it filled with old Champions
Those are all fantastic ideas!

I didn't get to the event, but I brought all my games and picked up extras at a couple other events and found someone on an online forum who had a spare Arceus and missed an event I went to. Here’s a few ideas for you to chose:
1. “1,000,000 Encounters” Shiny Video/Stream (Basically do 1 million encounters and see how many shinies you get. Also slightly boost the shiny odds and randomize the wild encounters.)
2. “Top 100 MandJTV Moments” Video
3. “Pokémon Showdown Battles Against Viewers” Video/Stream
4. “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Battles Against Viewers” Video/Stream
Also maybe include some other Pokétubers to collab with like JubileeBlais and TheAuraGuardian.
Nashawn Hall I think candy eevee would be a good person to collab with
@@jeretoon8350 yeah same
Love Candy Eevee
Nashawn Hall number 1!!!!!!!!
1,000,000 encounters? Even having 10 people doing it would be 100,000 encounters each and would take a really long time.
The Sinjoh ruins was very memorable for me because of SacredGold and StormSilver. It's the "endgame" location, which was pretty cool.
When I was super young, I was crazy obsessed with Pokemon and made my dad take me to Toys R Us and GameStop to go to all those crazy limited time events like the shiny Raikou Entei and Suicune. That Arceus event was just a week before my 10th birthday and I'm so glad to say that Sinjoh ruins cutscene was part of my formative years lol

I honestly think that they should have a cutscene so that when you catch all of the Unown, they open a portal and Arceus arrives from it. You can choose to create any one pokemon that you want or to battle and catch Arceus.
Me wan jirachi also good idea tho is sounds like a real event lol imma tell my lil sis its real
This is actually a pretty good idea for an event. It does seem like it could be a little OP for those that reset their games for shinies and/or IVs, but otherwise would be good in general.
@@araelsongheart6918 How would it be OP? Grinding for every unknown takes longer than breeding 1 prefect Pokémon.
@@jjquinn295 For one thing, it’s a legitimate way to get Arceus. How many of those ways were there again? Another thing is that if you decide to ask him to create a Pokémon and save before catching the final unknown, you could get that one Pokémon you’re missing for a competitive battling team you’d been trying to put together but don’t want to bother going back into that annoying cave to grind for a perfect one. If you’re going to pick the same Pokémon every time it’d just be easier that way.
The only problem would be what level you get the Pokémon at. We could say this is a post-league event and you get it at level 50 or level 80. Or it could be during the game at any time and they be level 1. Regardless, it’s still pretty OP to get that one Pokémon you’re missing or a LEGIT Arceus. Come on.
I don’t want to go back to Victory Road for a Pokémon that has a 5% encounter rate thank you very much.
@@araelsongheart6918 It would be a choice that you make, much like you have to choose what Calarex type you want in sword and shield. If you wanted to grind the unknown event to get a few different mons transfer them over and reset you could. Trading the opportunity for an Arcus for say a legit mew, isn't over powered it is just a way that you could get the many different event pokemon by grinding rather than having the luck to be playing at the right time.
If I remember right, with Altering Cave, the reason it didn't get used was due to McDonalds at the time and that the card reader was not selling as well as planned.
The idea was that there was going to be a promo thing with cards scanned to trigger it that could also be a thing for handing out at various events.
Wow this reminded me about Sinjoh ruins, I actually had that lv 100 Arceus from the UK event. I remember being annoyed that it only let you get legendaries you could already get in gen 4
It took me 3 years to find out where route 1 in X and Y is
(The path outside of the starting town)
😂😂😂
Rip......
It took me so long to find flair café
Aka (team flair HQ)
Yep i had the same problem in x and y just with the front door to my house. I was trapped in the kitchen for months
Good job
Out of all of these locations, I remember Anville Town the most. I get that it could be obscure and missable to some but I did know about it (and find it interesting on its design). Altering Cave and Dotted Cave are odd, to say the least. That Arceus cut scene was rather impressive of Game Freak. I say that another forgettable location is Chamber of Emptiness in Kalos where you can only find Banettite and Spooky Plate and no much else (though I guess it lives up to its name). I've actually forgot about Challengers Cave lol XD
I do remember all of these locations, and I remember trying things in-game, and going onto online forums to try and solve the mystery of Pattern Bush, because I thought it could unlock something cool.
The artisans cave thing cleared so much up for me because there's a bit in the Emeral episode of the Pokemon Adventures manga where there's a cave in the battle frontier full of smeargull and I literally had no idea there was game president for that, I thought the manga was just being weird again.
I remembered Artisan Cave as soon as Smeargle was mentioned in Altering Cave, but I completely forgot they put a Sudowoodo blocking the waterfall.
I'm mad that AZ floette never got released, especially that exclusive move it has.
I never understood the significance of AZ's Floette but then again I skipped X and Y being the only games I skipped. Only reason I'm happy though it hasn't been released is that I've heard it can break lore as well as I personally don't think they should make many events on mid-stage Pokemon or Characters that are only relevant for a little bit having event Pokemon.
WAIT IT HAD AN EXCLUSIVE MOVE
Hook me up with that move
@@bireon878 u need to play the game to understand why
@@mattnecroares3954 True, which I intend on doing eventually but I also don't think it'd be great for lore purposes still.
Eternal Flower Floette was always supposed to be the True Ultimate Form of Floette, it's kind of like those Special Pikachu, Eevee, & Meowths that are incapable of evolution. I still want that Legendary Stat Floette with Light of Ruin that was never released.
Imagine you're in fire red, find altering cave and see brendan standing in their waiting for you like red did in gsc
Wouldn't make sense chronologically
Thanks for reminding me of Challenger's Cave, I've forgot to go there for the TM I've been itching for since starting Battle Subway challenges
Anville town is one of my favorite Pokemon towns because it's so calm and when I go there I can forget about my worries and pretend I live there while my parents yell at eachother in the other room
Are you okay?
kyle critter yeah, she’s being dramatic
Idea: react to old videos and how you have grown since you’ve started
Ian Infanger boi, your about 3 and a half hours late😂
He should
Baaaa
Except Bulbasaur and Squirtle are there.
It would be really cool
I don't forget about Outcast Island/Altering Cave, Dotted Hole, Artisan Cave, and Scorched Slab. Though admittedly I only have/played the first 3 generations of Pokemon.
Me and my brother were talking a couple months back about the Sinjoh ruins being used as a BDSP dlc to go to the Johore ruins, so that’s why I even know they exist. Also I remember finding Anville Town in black and white since I played that game a lot when I was younger.
