The smiling knight f-ed around and found out
He wanted to see dawn, the morning came upon him and the smiling knight didn't smile anymore.
I wish that more written material about Ser Arthur Dane was available. Dude seems like that classic hero with awesome skills and great humbleness.
That’s the thing, the Prince and knight of most fairy tales were killed 15 years earlier, that’s what makes asoiaf so compelling, or one of the reasons
Bro got shit on
Definitely my favorite character.
He's to GoT what Hashirama is to Naruto 😮❤
I think George is intentionally holding back info on the entirety of House Dayne, not just Arthur.
Their family history seems to be connected to the time before the long night and would thus contain answers to soooooo many ASOIAF questions. So, he can’t exactly say more than he already has without allowing us to solve his puzzle before he’s even released the books.
On the individual level, he’s written multiple characters (mainly Ashara & Arthur) from House Dayne that are possibly the largest missing pieces to the puzzle-both having to do with Ned Stark and the births of Jon & possibly Dany.
I’ve always wanted a “Behind the Music” doc of Arthur, Ashara, and House Dayne but I’ve made piece with the fact that it will never happen. So, put your big boy pants on and cry yourself to sleep like the rest of us bud.
“It’s your sword I want.”
“Say no more fam.”
"He's better than my father"
"Far better"
Faaaar better
lol I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers “far” like that faaar betta
Seeing him, Rhagar, Gerald and Barriston on screen together would be great. A very nice balance against Robert, Eddard, Stannis and Jon Arryn.
Ser Arthur definitely deserves his own series
Actually, it was not said the smiling knight was the mountain of that generation, but that he was like the mountain in term of eagerness of men to defeat him in battle.
Didn't jaime said it himself? He said that the smiling knight is the mountain of his time. It was in the flashback video on UA-cam
@@poggerz6567 yes but not size wise.
"The Mountain of my boyhood. Half as big but twice as mad."
@@Aidencros that's because nobody in the series is as big as the mountain, so when people say he's the mountain of his time, people meant it as he's the knight that people are afraid of

Makes Ned Stark building his reputation on his being stabbed in the back seem a lot less honourable.
To be fair that's only shown in the show and it's not in the books
When you are a quest to save your sister f... chivalry tbh
It wasnt a tournament, happened in real war, theres no rules of honor in war.
You can cry.
And he didn't build his whole reputation from this Ned has plenty of feats and honorable acts that are what people actually think about. Only weirdos who wanna fight him like Jaimie think of that first and foremost.
"I wish you luck in the wars to come."
"And now it begins"
"Noh......neu it ehnds...."
Mahn i wish more series would come up on this , like a few could be :
1. Aegons conquest
2. The blackfyire rebellion
3. The war of the nine penny kings
4. The dornish wars
5 . The valariyan freehold
6 . The age of heroes
7. The first men and the arrival of the andals
8. More about essos
9. More about the continent in the south
10. What is west of westeros
11. About previous empires and kingdoms ( both weteros and essos )
12. Life of the common people etc.
13. About the legendary warriors of westeros and essos
It would be great
A series about Valyria named Fire & Blood would be amazing...Nymeria story line can be fitted into that
wow great 🫡
best bro
Also, some stories of yi-ti would be better
Wasn’t there a saying in the books or maybe the tv show saying “never have greater knights served worsed kings” to the fact that knights loved by many or seen as what true knight should always be serving horrible people
Damn prince rhaegar is a true G instead of bringing his best men especially ser arthur to the most important battle of his life he leaves them behind guarding the one he truly loved damn if that ain't gangsta what is
Ser ARTHUR Dayne ⚔️ history of westeros 🔥 sword of the morningstar 🌟
The Mountain of that generation... this speaks loud how great was sir arthur
Thanks for the narration Napoleon Dynamite.
Pretty sure Sir Barristan the Bold should have the title as the best swordsman in Westeros due to the fact that he doesn't need a magic sword to cut down anyone or everyone who stood in his way and duty. Barristan even cut down Maelys the Monstrous and countless others in the War of Ninepenny Kings without a magic sword
Tbh Dawn isn't magic it just is a better metal they are very even though with the same metal sword but Arthur probably edges it still selmy has accomplished way more.
George RR said that Arthur and Barristan were equal in a fight. But would give the edge to Dayne only because Dawn was of superior quality to a standard sword
In house of dayne they offer this sword only to those who is worthy to hold it. so he is best swordsman before that worthy enough to hold the great sword.
It's not magic fool it's just made of a superior material
Well, Valyrian steel IS a rare, powerful metal with which to make swords, but most of those swords are ceremonial in nature (like Ice), and not very suitable in battle. Hence the reason why most noble houses has them as treasures, not weapons.
There are exceptions, like Dawn, Claw and Oathkeeper, but having them on to potentially lose them in battle is hardly the rule.
“I want yours!”
“Heheh don’t mind if you do!”
then you shall have it sir.
*Ser*
house dayne is probably my favorite house, with gerold darkstar dayne got to show up in the show he was awesome
All hail king Authur
Ser Arthur may have had Dawn
But Howland Reed had a Double Barrel Shotgun
He was known by all the realm as the best swordsman
We need an sir Arthur Dane mini series🧐
The man wasn’t chivalrous at all, he slaughtered for the mad king
Too chivalrous for my liking, he died stopping Ned get to his sister because of his dead Princes order. If he allowed Ned reach his sister whom he wouldn’t have harmed in any way then he’d be alive
Because he didn't know what Ned and Robert would do with Rhaegar's son.
Ser Aurthur Dayne the Knight of many cuts g
Y’all think Arthur Dayne would beat Prime Ageon the Conquest

They need to make a series just on ser Arthur in his youth, right up to training Jamie Lannister.
I love how it said that every young boy in the whole seven kingdom pretend played and wanted to be Arthur Dane.
They’re family line and that sword are so damn interesting. Wish they do a whole show about house Dane and Dawn
Arthur Dayne was an awesome character prince rheagers best friend and an honorable friend
So chivalrous that he helps his friend elope with his little girlfriend and leave their family and all people to suffer.
I think I've never seen a character with sich diverse fanfiction lol I still have absolutely no Idea how he'd look like 😂
He was in the show
He has never been described in terms of physical description which is why his fanart is very varied I would say. Most of course draw Arthur with purple eyes and black hair because he may have resembled his sister Ashara who had as such. We don’t know for sure of course. In the show he has dark hair.
Alicent Hightower is actually kind of the same. Of course the show and most fanart have her with dark hair, I think that is also depicted in F&B illustrations, there is no specific for her apart from being slender and attractive. There’s some who think she had silver hair, because Alerie Hightower (Margaery’s mom in books) did and Jorah’s estranged wife Lynette was said to resemble Daenerys.
What happened to Dayne's sword after he was killed?
Eddard returned it to the Daynes i believe
Eddard returned it to house Dayne were the sword is kept until another member of house Dayne proves worthy, that person is then given, along with the sword, the title "the sword of the morning"
Unlike other house we're the family sword is just given to the oldest son
Edit: spelling
Eddard returned Dawn to Starfall, causing Ashara Dayne to commit suicide. He also made Jon Snow and the future lord Edric Dayne milk brothers
In Hbo’s robberts rebellion storys. “The sword gathers dust above the mantel, waiting for the next Worthy dayne, and there it shall stay untill one is born.”
Imagine Jaimie dissapointent when facing Eddard

Fine Ill rewatch Game of Thrones!
Aemon the Dragonknight is my favorite swordsman
Ser Arthur Dayne is the Gol D Rogers of GOT....he was so powerful that they needed to take him out before the series started.
Or else it would be "In the game of thrones, you either win or you die... unless Ser Arthur Dayne decides otherwise."
Greatest of his time, maybe. But he cant time travel to fight others, so we never know. Last great one is always 'the best'
Can you do a video on Elia Martell?
Can you do one about house hightower during GoT ?

The Sword of the morning or Mance Rayder
He was also a shapeshifter

Joffrey: "if he's fool enough to approach me... I'll give him a, red smile..."
Nah the best swordsman was prolly daemon blackfyre dude was a beast dropping kingsguard and lords alike
I really hope he wasnt killed by ned. Instead they made a deal he joined yhe nights watch becoming quhorin half hand.
I hope him and benjim were always ready for john to join the nights watch.
Just a personal fan fiction probably lol.
I’m curious why Ned was kept from his sister. Why fight them instead of letting her talk to her brother? Robert wasn’t there. This scene always confused me.
Aemon the Dragonknight feels more legendary than Arthur Dayne
his armor was trash in GOT, unlike Targaryen armors in HOTD
Martin himself puts Aemon the Dragonknight above Arthur.
he doesn’t lmao. he quite literally states multiple times that ser arthur is the best knight and swordsman ever.
No he doesn’t. Where THE FUCK did you get that from?! Seriously, I own every single book George has ever written and never come across that. Not even in any interview he’s given so where exactly did you hear or read that?! Very curious
Safe to conclude that ser dayne was more honorable that ned stark?
Artie just wanted more cage time
first illustration reminds me of MCU Tony Stark
Daemon Blackfyre and Barristan Selmy
He dreamt an old dream.....
and Ned beat him
Wait his sword got forged from a star?
That's how Mjolnir was forged too...
Arthur Dane in that first Image looks more like a Stark... Tony Stark
Chivalry is easy when you're better than everybody else
In the books though 7 took out those legendary 3 I’m not trying To down play it at all but they must have been all good swordsmen in their own rights to even hold their own against that level of skill the kingsguard wielded the.
What would the match up be like with dayne and selmy
How? With Barriston around could anyone be considered a better swordsman. Definitely need an on screen adaptation
The most Honorable Knight...stabbed in the back , shame on the world.
How fool he was, sword is only a sword Arthur Dayne is the true steel
What about aemon targaryen the dragonknight
there needs to be a tv series about house Dayne
Didn't Ned Stark actually have an affair with sir authors sister? Met her returning Dawn to the Dane house after he fell
Yea maybe Jon is her son
Potentially but personally I don't believe it. We know a Stark had sex with Ashara but I would say that was more likely Brandon Stark, Ned's older brother.
I wonder was Ser Arthur even greater than Aemon Targaryen the dragon knight? Or Daemon Blackfyre? If u know u know...
He’s so cool. Until a man he wounded got up from the ground and stabbed him with a dagger. I guess Arthur Dayne isn’t that good.
there are always another greatest swordsman who ever lived in westeros 🙂 what if we just put down the 'est' part and just use "great" instead, so word "greatest" doesnt lose its meaning 🙂
this guy is the real deal though, I can't think of any better in the history of ASOIAF
But he died an idiot. What was the point of trying to kill Ned Stark? Ned wasn't going to harm his own sister or her child. Rhaegar was already dead. It was a totally pointless and stupid fight and death. Ned and his sister would have had a little bit more time together if A Dayne had just let Ned go see her immediately.
And SHE absolutely did not want Ned to be killed...she desperately needed him alive, to protect her child.
Why was Arthur Dayne so dumb about this?
Maybe it was just an order by Rhaegar to defend the tower against any of their “enemies” and the Kingsguard took that very seriously and literally. Stupid of course against Lyanna’s own brother but then again some people think any other Kingsguard apart from Jamie would have let Aerys burn King’s Landing.
@@hi-ls6lt That's a really good explanation! And it is excellent at pointing out the big problems in the whole notion of what this Kingsguard is. If a King says..."Go rape every child under 11" , in theory the "honour" of these big but dim blokes would require that they do so. Honour. heh heh.
Though I'm sure grrMartin voiced that through some character or another..the various competing claims upon what a knight (or really any person) is called upon to do.
If you put a promise or oath before your own capacity to make ethical decisions, you are going to end up with no ethics.
@@greenman6141Martin when asked for comment has always pointed out that Ned's recollection of events at the Tower of Joy is s dream and a fever dream at that. Meaning it probably played very differently from that.
@@adamantiiispencespence4012 So...played differently.
Arthur Dayne isn't dead.
Jon Snow isn't Lyanna's
Lyanna isn't dead.
There was no fighting. They all had some lovely tea. and then a tickle contest.
There are some events which seem fairly core. I do accept that the room where Lyanna lay dying probably was not filled with the scent of blue roses. .
I've heard of so many ,'Greatest swordsman' to ever exist in ASOIAF😂
I actually believe that he decided to let ned kill him just so that the story was believable
Duncan McLeod would humiliate him
All these legendary swordsmen sword fighting with greatswords which aren't designed at all for sword fighting.
I wonder was Ser Arthur even greater than Aemon Targaryen the dragon knight?
He's the greatest knight to have ever lived, that's why he's dead
Idk why I thought hw was gonna say
