14:35 Rerecord count is how many times the TAS went "backwards in time" to repeat a section. Basically, the TAS doesn't actually know what the RNG will be, but the person recording will be making save states so they can go back to the save state and try again to get the best RNG for every section. Each time they revert to a previous save state, +1 is added to the rerecord count.
Actually, this depends on the TAS. For example, I know of a Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door TAS where the person making it was keeping track of the game's internal RNG for most of the TAS because they needed to manipulate it to get multiple drops in a single room, which nessesitated some all-run RNG manipulation to force the game to spawn exactly the right enemy encounters, which is harder than it sounds because they needed to make one of the encounters have an enemy holding a badge, which is rare, and tricky because all the encounters have their enemy lineup and held items rolled simultaneously upon entering the room.
@@alexstewart9592 That video by Malleo was super fun and interesting to watch. The reason they didn't "brute force" like this HK TAS is because it would take up precious runtime to find the correct seed in the run itself. So they found a good RNG seed ahead of time and worked their way back from there. To do this they needed to have a great understanding of how the RNG worked in TTYD: they needed to know exactly what would progress the RNG and where it would be at that particular point in the run. They also made a script to scout for the good seed, the one with the two badges in one encounter, because doing this manually would take an insane amount of time. When they found a good seed nearby they used a clever trick to get there as fast as possible, every time you slide through the menu in TTYD RNG advances by 10 values, so it's a very quick way to get ahead in RNG since they could do it 30 times a second I believe
@khandwa style it’s definitely weird to call it a robot. It’s an actual person just using an emulated and/or modified version of the game. It’s a different story for DwangoAC’s TASbot which is a machine that replicates TASes on live hardware, however the original inputs it is replicating are done by a human
pretty sure the upslashes he mentions at 3:56 are done to delay the wings animation by adding a nail animation, therefore skipping the dip of the double jump
I also think that u can use another technique where where u upslash and do small movements left and right to end the animation of the upslash allowing u to upslash quicker
Regarding both the white palace and PoP TAS's, I assume that the way they pogo the sawblades above them was using the extended nail reach from mark of pride/longnail/a combination of the two? That's the only way I can think of, haha :D Great video, Fire!
I love that as a highly skilled player fire explains how/why do some certain tricks work like that. As a causal player I might never be able to use these tricks but it’s always very interesting to watch
What's terrifying is that the TAS isn't just fighting with complete power, it's literally TOYING AROUND during the fights. It even hops around happily and DANCES while there's gaps between its murder fests.
You probably already know this but just forgot in the moment, but at like 7:10 you asked how you pogo something above you, the swing hit box goes a little bit up if you notice, so it’s hard and precise, but not any challenge for a TAS
1:10 if u jump from a wall you have 1 frame time to get the dipless 2jump if it is from the ground u have 3 frames, which is barly possable to do without skript (and the nail swings after any jump into a 2 jump is to make the 2. jump delayd, still without a dip)
he was literally on steel soul and did not care about the ant that is falling to his head. and got trougth the sword by parrying. he even looked his inventory for 3 seconds when god tamer was jumping. insane
I enjoy having your explanations, otherwise it would be too fast for me to understand and see differences with normal/players speedruns. 😅 Even the fact that it looks more smooth and optimized is something I'm not sure I could have explained, as simple as it might sound when you say it. Thank you! 😌
just out of curiousity could the nail swings be for rng manipulation on the kings molds? i don't know why the rng manip would be valuable but this is one of the things i remember seeing in the any% tas i think it was and it could be why the slashes are used
hey man just found your god gamers series thing, dont know if you want to take it outside of hollow knight but if you do i think the SL1 fists only playthrough of dark souls 3 is perfect for it as the story behind the run pretty similar to the any radiance with all the thought to be impossible kind of stuff, a player called g soul was the first person to make alot of progress with the run and managed to do all but 4 bosses which was insane for the time, these 4 bosses were thought to be completely impossible but since then alot of new strats and players came along and the full run was completed by the first person last year and since then 2 others have done it. The story behind this entire run and in particular those 4 bosses is very interesting and many many people were involved in the creation of strategies and completion of the run. The run contains some of the hardest and longest boss kills ever done and many people consider it to be the hardest dark souls challenge run to be ever completed.
I was planning on skipping the coll 3 TAS because I hadn't done it yet and I didn't want spoilers. I needn't have worried, I still have no idea what it is like.
I stood on the thorns platforms in path of pain but failed 90% of the time (edit) you can pogo things above you if you are at a very precise angle with mark of pride
The pogos where it looks above the knight are done using the back swing of the sword, I found myself while playing casual that you can climb spike walls with pogos, just carefully.
if I remember right, it's something along the lines of pressing and releasing jump on the frame you touch the ground, and that puts you in a permanent grounded state meaning you can continue jumping in the air, as if you were on the ground. Then I think you break that by dashing, double jumping, or stuff like that if you want to stop airwalking
i think the only reason they could pogo things above them was the nail lengthening charms so the bigger nail hitbox would be big enough to hit above them.
Dont mind me over here still struggling with the last round of the Colluseum of Fools and Grim lmao... Listen it's a big jump from my false start two years ago where I put twenty hours into the game, most of it wondering around trying not to die and having no idea what was going on. I just beat the white palace and on xbox I've got like a bunch of achievements that less than 5 percent of people have so I cant be that bad. 😭😂😭😂 (Edit: I had no idea it was gonna do white palace at the start. I'm getting angry PTSD 😭🤣😥🙃)
To me, Grimm isn't that bad and I still redo the fight because I find it really fun as well as because it was the first radiant boss that I beat. But colosseum 3 just about destroyed my sanity. I would get so far and then the primal aspids or the volt twisters would just combo me to death. I beat it, but it took the wind right out of my sails.
say, what happenes when you don't wake the dreamers. and finish the path of gods? do they wake or just sleep forever? i mean it's the only route to the moth that doesn't need their deaths right?

On rooms where the tas needs to move up, it almost looks like it's floating the entire way up, its just so fast
i do believe airwalk works by jumping on every frame causing the game to never actually log that you are to stop jumping or smthn like that
hey Fire i have a little question how does multiplayer for hollow knight work exectlly can you make a tutorial again for the other Mod api
pls

Fummy enough, the first time I watched a TASbot video I thought it was just another fancy username but quickly realised there's no way it was human. 🤣
The TAS pogoing on sawblades that are practically above the knight are hilarious.

The way that the TAS parried the Tamer's final hit gave a cool effect.
That was nice attention to detail by Cuber Knight.
think about the audience for that colosseum watching hundreds of enemies being slaughtered in 4 minutes
The Knight got so tired of waiting for Silksong that he snapped out of the infection, got out of the Black Egg and unlocked ultra-instinct
The white palace looks like the runner is almost flying at times. Kinda envy that kinda skill
well I’m glad that kinda skill is not rly humanly possible without TAS lol

Pale king: starting to changing his mind about hollow knight
4:11 I was recently watching the coop room Rando Fire did a month ago, and this struck me
for a split second at 14:10 I thought that the TAS had compass equipped just to flex
A TAS is basically just:
“👇👉😀🙁☹️😄👈👈✋”
all in one second.
If Pale King saw the Knight's deadly efficiency, he'd knew who is truly Hollow.
The mawlek in Colo3 just hits the ground and immediately explodes
I feel like TAS is actually Fireborn. Pretty sus
Still waiting on the grass speedrun TAS
4:13
Me: At this point he’s flying

this TAS dude is really cool
The up slashes is rng manipulation I think bc every action and input you do in hollow knight determines what the next rooms rng
imagine my shock when i took probably *seven hours* (in total, over multiple sessions) to get through white palace
okay but that god tamer parry was pure flex
The pogos where it looks above the knight are done using the back swing of the sword, I found myself while playing casual that you can climb spike walls with pogos, just carefully.
