I didn't even know dash cancel was a thing until right now. I loved fire's initial reaction to it with the chuckle followed by the absurdity of the explanation. It's likely hard enough to execute vs it's utility that most folks don't even bother.
You did a good job explaining the strat but one clarification I wanna make cuz I think it's really cool is the baldur flickering isn't spammed but it's timed with the laser repositioning (it repositions every 30 frames) since baldur isn't 100% safe when flickering you absolutely have to be on rhythm
Hey fireb0rn! Thank you so much!!! Just to clarify about 1:27 , i never used the mod to make sure carefree would save me on first hit, but i also dont stack it, so i just went for radiant clears and if it saved, then it was a lucky run :D That is also why i decided to play without carefree, since it almost never was saving me when i really needed lol. Amazing video as always!! Keep up this good work
okay, ive heard of the "dash cancel" before in one of your old tutorials on speedrunning, ive never seen any practical use for it, but i find it hilarious that dark was able to apply it in such a high speed fight like this one, blows my mind
I think the orb disappearing at 8:00 was because even though the abyss wasn't loaded in yet, the box for it was still activated, since if you look at the placement of the abyss later, it's about the same place as where the orb disappeared. edit: darnit my grammar and spelling needs to git gud
In case no one else mentioned it yet, it's the normal despawn point for the orb. You just normally can't see because it's covered by void. Here the void hadn't risen far enough yet.
Team cherry is just trying to see how far the hollow knight community will go before they release silksong. It’s been done for months but they enjoy our slow descent into insanity.
It’s crazy that in just a year the “unbeatable boss” can now be beat without being hit at all. I don’t know what the rules are for Baldur shell. Wouldn’t that be similar to care free melody? Or is it getting a pass because it’s almost essential to use baldur shell to beat any rad without thousands more attempts just to get to the final phase? Also that dash cancel… How do people come up with that stuff? When I saw that my jaw dropped for a good 10 seconds
IMO the difference with baldur shell is that you intentionally decide when to use it as part of your strategy, where as carefree melody is a way to cover up a single mistake in the run.
Baldur Shell is more like using descending dark or shadow dash, since you decide to do an action that gives you temporary invincibility (but also locks you in place!), while carefree melody just randomly negates a mistake you made. And without using invincibility frames (from descending dark, shadow dash or baldur shell), some attacks of any rad are just physically impossible to avoid (like the walls coming in from both side in the first phase).
I think people will give it a pass unless someone figures out a way to actually beat the beam phase reliably without it. Until then, getting hit in that phase is RNG, so most people seem to be willing to let it slide.
I think carefree melody is more controversial because it requires setup by getting stacks before the boss fight (which people use a mod to do so) while the baldur shell invincibility is an intended game mechanic.
the one problem with baldur shell is that it still triggers hitstun and damage invulnerability as if you had gotten hit so it's a debatable one. Other than that, it feels more like parrying to me which I would consider hitless as long as it negates all damage. Interesting one, indeed.
8:34 if orbs go off screen they despawn so at that time the screen was shrunk when he got to the platform thus killing the orb. At least my assumption from orbs dying at top and left in phase 6. My thoughts on carefree real fast. it is just a time saver modding it in. Otherwise you would need to spend a shit ton of time after every fight to get it back or use save states to keep it. You could in theory get the perfect rng for carefree and then back up your save and relosd it manually but no one wants to do that every time they are hit to anyrad.
great vid keep it up! But I just want to make a clarification at 5:06 when radiance teleports to the platform you are on in a radiant run the safest thing to do is to get as far away as possible as quickly as possible then react to which attack it is not reacting to orbs then running away.
Opening the menu to cancel a dash while all of this shit is happening on screen is such a galaxy brain. I can't imagine how much practice it took to pull it off this fast and flawlessly
I wouldn't have gotten that part about opening the select menu to cancel dash, or the baulder shell glitch, without your explanation. Stalwart Shell lets him reach two platforms. This is awesome!
I have an idea for why that one orb disappeared in the final phase. My idea is, normally I think the orbs will disappear once they are submerged in the Void stuff, so maybe there is a kill box down there that is normally hidden by the shadows.
So watching this I was legitimately thinking "there's no way this isn't tas. He is too precise and rediculous for this to be a Tas" not really an accusatory thing and I wasn't going to bring it up. But during the beams phase the "oh my god he fucked up. This isn't a tas, what?!"
There is indeed a killzone for orbs at the bottom of Phase 3. That's how I beat Radiant AbsRad, I redirected the orbs down instead of up, like most people do.
holy shit. the hollow knight community is doing crazier and crazier challenges so fast, one of these days were gonna see a video titled "fireb0rn reacts to worlds first hitless true ending run but every enemy is any radiance"

Normally that orb killbox is covered by the void clouds, the climb was just so fast that they didn't cover it up in time, so it just looks like it disappears
I'd say its up for debate on this one. Because using baldur shell sort of resembles the concept of parrying an attack which can be considered "not getting hit" in cases where the parry negated all damage. But then again, it still triggers hitstun and damage invulnerability, so probably still leaning towards "damageless"
the use of carefree melody mod would be the same as using a mod that refills your soul or gives you blue hearts, you can do it without mods, but it takes long.
Bruh...i had no idea carefree melody worked that way in God home. My biggest beef with the godhome bosses was always that the game doesn't let you bring soul in.
