    CC said he just holded cdash for 1 second too long and realized only after the THK fight.

    • @fabiansandhoff750
      @fabiansandhoff750 3 роки тому +3

      @@benjaminmenist That bit with following the same route was referring to this rule:
      "Wallcling storage, so long as glitchless movement through the same space with current items and room state is available to the player."
      Wallcling storage enables a player to not have to go through the gauntlet but instead "flying" over the gap which you cross after getting c-dash. That's the tidbit with "same route".
      They didn't use c-dash for any actual skips as far as I could tell, but it's apparently still an overall time save to get and use it for for faster room clearing.

    13:12 maybe this has already been said, but I think the reason it looks like he’s holding left and right at the same time is because most videos on UA-cam run at 30 FPS while hollow knight likely runs at 60 FPS. So the fastest way to move left and right is to essentially press it once every other frame which makes it look like it’s being held down because of UA-cam’s slower frame rate

    • @JoschuaZachmann
      @JoschuaZachmann 3 роки тому +41

      not really, it is just the input-display showing inputs for longer than 1 frame because otherwise humans mostly wouldn't be able to understand the inputs (and not be able to see them at 30 fps video quality). It is for our convenience. The original video is 60 fps.

      At least the actual creation time is probably roughly comparable to grinding out regular speedruns, no? Obviously, doing a single human run is much faster but you generally have to do a bunch of them to get a good time.
      So I'd say speedrunnig in general just takes a lot of time and dedication. Especially considering that there's also a lot of time spent on routing, finding bugs and places to use them, etc. And I guess for TASs some people certainly spent a lot of time to actually create the tools which are used for doing them in the first place. 7:28 there was no extra hit snuck in on mossknight. Mossknight takes 50dmg to kill, a Vengeful Spirit is 15 and a nail strike is 5 at that stage in the game.
    That particular Mossknight was hit with one nail, one VS which hit once, and one VS which hit twice.
    The Knight has the same soul level at 7:05 as it does after the Mossknight fight. The Knight makes 6 nail hits between these times.

I'm not very good at Hollow Knight, but I've been trying to stick it out and have really enjoyed your videos and have been just plain amazed with the precision of your movement and your skill on the speed runs (especially with the hunters), so anyway, really enjoyed seeing how impressed you were with this. I love TAS runs. They are so impressive, just an eye porn.
    Also I literally watched this TAS recently, haha. So I just rewatch it with Your commentary. Tbh, Your commentary on this videos are very nice. Many people don't get what's going on when watching speedruns, so they ask the runner. And TAS is going to do even more crazy stuff. Thanks to people, often in marathons, explainign what's going on, I have some understanding on the matter. Like they tell why they do that, what they do and how is this possible, why the game makes it so etc. You always explain this stuff too, but not just that. You are generally good at commenting over these vids.
    Also I have a weird feeling that I've seen Your video (this one)... I remember Your commentary... though UA-cam didn't show the red bar on it, which appears on videos You've seen (because it's time stamp of where You stopped watching last time). Weird...
    But no, You probably said that somewhere else, because I remember just watching it without the comentary after the TAS got the weird sound effect with wall cling storage and I don't remember You saying anything about this.
    Also it's funny that I'm watching Your vids in reverse order (newest to oldest), because I've seen You doing the Mantis damage You at the Mantis Claw and You just said that it's probably the new strat in the speedruns now, but You havent's seen them Yourself yet. Haha, that's really funny. Going back to the past like that.
    Oh god. I've seen this multiple time, but never realized that in few frames when You focus after defeating the Holow Knight, Radiance appears briefly (silhouette made of light). That's a nice detail, lol.

    The wcs used here is cling cling storage, and involves clinging the wall for a frame, holding away from the wall for 4 frames, holding back towards the wall for a frame, then holding away for a frame (and usually dashing).
    There's a faster version now where you dont actually need to cling the wall but that wasn't used in this run afaik.

    TAS grabs Cristal Heart because of the route, the 3 places where you'd think Cristal Heart is mandatory for the run (Crossroads to Fog Canyon, inside Monomon's area and Fog Canyon to Queen's Garden) do not use Cristal Heart in the slightest. Therefore I am assuming that this game can be completed without Cristal Heart or Isma's Tear. In addition, not needing Cristal Heart would allow you to also skip lantern (including skipping saving Sly).
    I want to see a TAS about skipping that stuff.
