A lot of people get annoyed with James O'Brien and call him all sorts of things, there are even near on death threats to him on some of his you tube videos , the man knows what he is talking about and is very knowledgable and educated and that gets the ill informed and not so educated ruffled and angry, its very easy to get brexiteers angry , they will shout and argue to the most calm discussion on the whole topic of the UK's exit from teh EU..... JamesO'Brien , top man ...
I didn’t vote either way, I know some leave voters, they voted because they were unhappy with regional inequality, globalization and austerity. Now tell me how a middle class privately educated “journalist “ like James O’Brien can relate to them? One way.? Answer is he can’t. James O’Brien is the epitome of a self promoting champagne socialist.
He tells them what they do not want to hear. Obviously financially the EU has benefitted the UK, in a lot of ways the people have benefitted from the EU. It is valid to be against mass immigration but you need to put everything in the proper perspective and not be stupid and deny the obvious. The UK can survive outside of the EU, but it will cost money, you need to make deals and compromises. It will not be walk of glory, but instead the UK will be trying to crawl out of a minefield. That is the reality and that is what people are rejecting.
Spinler Muckflitt you have no idea what you are talking about. I can assess you very low level of IQ by the garbage you spout. You are also racist, xenophobic, completely unable to understand either politics or economics, and you are gullible to the nth degree. Have a nice day.
@@lynneceegee8726 I understand your annoyance but your comments do highlight a well worked perception of those who voted to leave which I find insulting and quite arrogant. At the time of the referendum the choice was to stay or leave full stop, right or wrong people spoke and this nation is more than capable of working through the difficulties that may lay ahead. It was bankrupt in 1945 yet created the NHS and the nuclear umbrella that has kept Europe at peace.

The first time I came across James, he connected more dots on every front on Brexit than any leavers I've heard from string between any two, so it's perplexing to wrap my head around their huffing and puffing about getting their way when they're barely doing anything to take over or solve the problems at hand. Well done to these two.
Due to EU regs I cannot set light to my pillow as the Eurocrats force me to sleep on a "non-inflammable" one. After Brexit I will be free to do so, but Liz Hurley wants to buy less efficient light bulbs so she voted Leave. Sadly for her, that is nothing to do with the EU so she will still have to wait half a second to turn on the light the day after Brexit.
How do you elect the European commission? How do they decide which laws to pass? How do you oppose any laws passed by the commission when EU laws supersede National laws?
I have explained this many times to Leavers. Faced with the facts of the matter there are two responses, 1. Violent abuse or 2, a counter argument based on rubbish about the EU being unelected, or a Nazi organisation. For that reason I think it best Leavers do their own research instead of repeating word for word the lies they love. Explaining the very democratic processes of the EU so many times only to receive a tirade of abuse has become too much trouble for me to bother. You can easily find out for yourself.
Hey James. How's you? Got a house Got money Got a platform What do you not have ? What do you know that you don't know James?? Hey James, so many people now need more than one lifetime to achieve no debt no profit . And why ? Come on James Try thinking
I have only come across James O`Brien today by accident - and have been watching clips with him on UA-cam for the last 2 hours. Very impressive! I just wished he´d get some speaking time in the House of Commons!
LazyJack2003 Same here. I think what I most admire is his dogged pressing home of his very simple Socratic questioning, refusing to move on or to give up as most interviewers do and blandly to gloss over the most outrageous illogical claims which are based on nothing more than ignorance and bigotry - as if all opinions are equally valid. How often in course of the interviews do we hear callers say ‘well that’s just your opinion and not mine’ as if all opinions carry equal weight and, as such, sacrosanct personal beliefs. Of course, in this dogged pursuit, he exposes to broad daylight the ill-founded and fallacious viewpoints of others. This results in he is vehemently hated by many, as comments here reveal only too readily. Nobody appreciates their ‘side’ being made to look foolish, although there are some callers who are oblivious to this having happened. I also think that what he says about not being beholden to anyone is extremely pertinent.

Jaime Williams, do you mean like the soviet union? Europe is the most democratic continent in the whole world and you've either been brainwashed or are completely deluded. the EU countries where freedom is guaranteed all year round, where you can get treatment in a hospital in any country just by having an id card and for free or a small initial consultation fee of no more than 20 euros, where you can drive from Portugal to spain, to france to Italy with security and freedom without stopping except for a coffee, lol. where European countries like Portugal, spain, Norway, Switzerland, holland, denmark etc have constantly figured in top ten list for national health services, security and quality of life to name just three. of the top 10 national health services in the world over half are in our great continent, spain and france top 5, Portugal 10th germany etc. and in the top 20 more than half are in the EU including the uk 19th, compare that with the USA! only Canada, Australia, new Zealand and a handful of Asian countries like japan and Singapore come even close, where life expectancy is the highest of any continent you'd care to name. Its not the EU's fault England is run by a tory government that introduces universal credit that's driven many people to resort sadly to suicide, where profit is king and giving the dup £ 2 billion just to stay in power is normal and no one complains, bet you'd have plenty to say if another EU country did that, just think about that for a minute! the tories literally bought the last election just to stay in power and do you think they'd have given that to the nhs instead had they won the election outright? in your dreams pal. yes Islamic terrorists are evil and must be eradicated but for your info, Pakistan, Bangladesh, india and Somalia are not in Europe, the uk is full of immigrants from countries like that way before the EU and you may well know paki bashing was a popular pastime in the 60's and 70's way before the EU was a factor in England, no blacks, no Irish and no dogs was common on front doors of guest houses and homes in the 50's right up to early 70's and there was no EU to speak of back then. in a fascist state that would be common as was the case in germany 1930's with no juden signs everywhere, by the look of things the uk especially England is showing scary signs of returning to those times and you have the audacity to call the EU a fascist dictatorship! you've either just been born or been locked up for decades and just got out! btw for your info the USA want to take over the uk nhs and privatise it and they will unless you stand up to the tories, bet people like you will blame the EU when that happens, oh we want our sovereignty back blah blah blah, you always had it and that's why May bought her premiership for £2 billion or do you think that's EU rules! bet you're still worried about bendy bananas aren't you?
LOL we are not "united". The UK is either part of us or it isn't. The UK needs to be kicked out. The Remain types aren't as insane as the Brexit types, but equally completely ignorant of the respective power and UK's place in the world. An utterly deluded society.
The slow march of Britain to irrelevance has been truly depressing and fascinating at the same time. A significant amount of leave voters seemed to think they were on the path to reinvigorating the British Empire, but seemed to hasten it’s demise completely.
@Kevin Burrow it's actually already happening if you didn't notice. But that's ok. Have fun outside the EU. We will see who will be right in.the end. And guess what, the signs don't look good for the brexit camp
The only people who think that are the remain supporters who tell other remain supporters that leave supporters think that. And honestly, we're told that the UK needs the EU because it's becoming irrelevant, so either way by remain logic, the UK is becoming irrelevant, and I'd prefer to go down as an independent nation rather than a state of a union.
Joe Williams that’s not what they are saying. They are saying the UK will be more influential within the EU, having a large say in the rules that are written down on how Europe trades. If you are going to build a strawman, don’t make it so blatantly obvious.
Kevin Burrow not so much if you want to trade with Europe and the US. They will write the rules for you since they are the larger economies and you need them more than they need you.
Um. The argument goes that because the UK is becoming irrelevant it needs to be in the EU to offset that decline. Either way the decline is happening in remain eyes. No straw man, just your misunderstanding.
The discourse is we live in is a hedonistic, relativistic and narcistic me world where everybody knows everything because they feel it and the idea of being questioned for making choices or decisions is "how dare you", this creates space for large swathes of society being heavily socially engineered, manipulated by influential individuals and groups because it feels good.
May I suggest this feeling (21:00) comes from the homelessness we see on the streets every day and the two-tier education system that dooms all that comes from a disadvantaged background to low pay, or front line infantry soldier who hopes to learn a trade but ends up as one of the homeless rough street sleepers we see on the street every day! One of the problem leavers face from remainers, is that they can take the high moral ground, and say we have a duty to help economic migrants, do we not have a duty to help our own first? They can say this as they are not affected by the issues of mass immigration!
But these are ALL things that were problems before we joined the EEC. These are all problems which stem from the class based institutions of the UK which were created by and stand to serve the established elite and Upper classes who have always controlled this country. How does voting the make the country poorer held anyone? How does electing someone like Boris Johnson, the very epitome of an upper class establishment figure who hasn't lived a single day in the real world, help to address any of that which you mention? It doesn't. It just worsens the problem. Just look at the proliferation of food banks across the country; there are now more of them than McDonald's, and that has all come about under successive Conservative governments. The people who create the problems you deplore are the very people the British electorate empower!
Much like the way James does..There are just as many people with convincing arguments to leave.Truth is we will not know the reality of things until the will of the people ie the voters who won the referendum are out of the EU. Nice to be among like minded friends. Bounce those ideas and observations around the echo chamber. Here’s an idea for a change in the format: Thirty three individuals are split into two groups; 17 who voted Leave and 16 who voted Remain. The two camps are separated and members of each camp bond together - it’s nice to be among like minded friends. Now the fun begins; one person from the Leave camp is taken into the Remain camp where they are surrounded by their enemies. They must defend themselves from the verbal onslaught while their own camp can only look on. When it is over, the roles are reversed - one member of the Remain camp is confronted by the Leavers. And so on. A great spectacle and hopefully a clarifying of arguments and possibly some solutions. BBC or Channel 4?
They would never allow that... the remainers know if there is a genuine and detailed debate about europe and how it is run... Leaving Europe is not only justified, it would be clearly necessary to stop Britain (and other european countries) from losing their sovereignty. It is the Remain camp that is responsible for labelling all 'leavers' as racist, bigots, poorly educated, etc etc, the debating style of someone who knows they have a weak argument so must resport to abuse. great idea though
It is a very well known about occurrence. It has to do with the Fight or Flight response. When we start to loss an argument will feel stupid and thus threatened. When threatened the body introduces more adrenaline - which quickens the heart rate and reactions and makes us more aggressive in preparation to fight or run away. I thing it was an important moment for me in my life when I was able to say 'You know what I think you are right, I was being bloody stupid, sorry' and the sky didn't fall in. But it took a lot of years to get to that point.

The Brexit controversy is settled. Theresa May’s Brexit speech in Belfast Northern Ireland on 5.Feb.2019 was not openly clear, but leaves no doubt. It is clearly indicated by her wording. Brexit will happen, no new Irish boarder. The price the UK is willing to pay, is Northern Ireland.
James o Brien is a breath of fresh air. I love the way he dismantles the very tenuous arguments of Brexiteers which for to long has been accepted as factual by the paying public. Long may he continue to do this.

@@marksouthall4508 No, there is only leavers and remainers who see things differently. Neither is wholly right nor wrong. It is all a matter of what people's own perceptions of the value EU that forms their opinions. As we are leaving the country must now move on and make a success of the new situation. The UK will still be a friend, strong ally and continue to trade with our EU neighbours as we have done for centuries.. Let's be honest if the EU are not exacting powers over us as some suggest it will not be a problem for them to let go and create a new and lasting relationship with us.

The trouble is you can’t have a conversation with someone from the other side because as soon as you disagree with a point view they dig a trench and sit in it, unwilling to concede any point or any ground
Its a real problem. This nation has been watching too much tv, we get emotional instead of getting educated on the facts and reasoning a sensible and rational opinion. James is dead right, sound bites like taking back control are pointless and mean nothing without an explanation. The one that sticks with me is Gove and his comments about people having enough of experts.
John Ervine it’s because there are no fact checkers on these political programs or a decent host holding the guest to the question asked so these politicians just get away with saying anything that resonates with their audience whilst avoiding the questions being asked, it’s such a sorry state of affairs,
@John Ervine I don't think it's TV per se. It's bigger than that. It's the entire marketplace of ideas. The truth of the matter is that customers are frequently objectively wrong. But, if you want to be a successful merchant, you can't tell them that, because then they get annoyed and refuse to buy from you. To close a sale, you you have to pretend along with the customer that they're always right, *especially* if they're wrong. It makes them happy, which makes them like you, which removes the barriers from buying from you. And in the marketplace of ideas _everyone_ is a customer. The marketplace of ideas has become *extremely* competitive over the limited resource of customer attention. So everyone has become extremely used to being treated as if their every opinion and whim is perfectly correct simply because they've had it - all the better to sell them on ideas, actions, good and services. This constant reinforcement that a person's subjective beliefs are valid simply because they have them has has left people unable to deal the idea that there exists objective truth independent of our subjective beliefs. The core value of having belief aligned to objective truth to the greatest degree practically possible has been entirely lost for most people. So the tools of critical evaluation of evidence and argument are viewed with suspicion; not as a pathway to truth to which we should all subject ourselves, but just another rhetorical technique to be applauded when we use it and dismissed when the other side does. What people _feel_ is the tribalism of my opinion vs. yours and yours is no better than mine, so if you dismiss my opinion it's because you're unjustly talking down to me, and _how dare you_ talk down to me! And thus the current political climate. Trick is, I have no idea what to do about it, because I don't think that education will ever be incentivized the way that marketing is incentivized. It's a bugger of a problem.
JOB = one of the few journalists who actually asks callers to explain what they mean when they call in. Compare him to ITN/BBC who are often frightened of upsetting Brexit supporters. STOP BREXIT!
Gruxxan but it’s upset you hasn’t it? Why should it change anything? Why cannot people gather together to discuss and comment on any topic they wish? Why are you so triggered?
Can we cut to the chase... If Brexit goes through we lose the current trade agreements we have with the EU and others. On that day what we have inside of Britain other then for very few products, is all we've got till we can renegotiate EVERYTHING. According to the minister responsible for trade, 44% of British trade is with the EU. and on top of that in recent years it has increased in actual value by 14%. Ive been listening to people who own companies in Britain and even now trading with the EU is just barley manageable now. Should we leave the the EU it will be very difficult to re-establish EU trade as the other members of the EU will have taken our segment that WE GAVE UP. The Bank of England says Brexit would cause a deep recession for years. The whole world is in a down turn currently, we need to protect what we have now to get through. Britain could easily become a mere shadow of what we have today.
This wouldn't be the same Bank of England that predicted the collapse of our economy the day after Brexit. Thinking of exports what about Imports from Europe, for instance 750.000 German cars or 100 million bottles of proseco. You see profit and jobs will dictate any trade tariffs set by the EU. By the way 90 percent of British businesses dont export. Things can only be difficult if the EU want them to be. Turkey, Norway and Canada for instance have very good arrangements with the EU. If they start to squeeze us then they will find EU industries on their backs. I find it sad that so many people have no faith in their own country.
@@redicderldavis Yeah. All those businesses that have been relocating to the UK in the past 3 years... oh wait. It's the other way around. And it's accelerated every time a no-deal Brexit became more likely. We might have a dip in growth after you leave. But we'll be fine in the long term. Apart from every argument for and against Brexit there were and still are, fundamental unaddressed aspects to the whole membership referendum of 2016, namely: 1: Constitutional amendments require more than a simple majority. Why this larger majority? Because these are laws that influence the most laws in the country, affecting the most people. In the case of a Brexit, this would have an even bigger impact (none knows how big, which is even more frightening) than one constitutional amendment, which is why the referendum should've been AT LEAST 2/3 MAJORITY, for it to justify taking a major turn towards Brexit after being in the EU for over 40 years. 2: The referendum was set to have zero, ZERO, legal power; it was just an opinion poll, (partially) to see whether the government had to push harder to renegotiate the asylum system for the entire EU. Fundamentally, there is no justification for Brexit to happen the way it has, whether you're a Leaver or a Remainer. You fundamentally don't make decisions with this large an impact based on an opinion poll with a simple fucking majority.
The vote was by all parties and sides taken as a mandate no matter the majority. Remainers and Leavers were not complaining at the time and the choice was In or out lock stock and barrel as per the leaflets sent to every home in the UK. Whatever happens the UK will find its feet and prosper as it has always done including the near thousand years it was not in the EU.
@Michael Hazle You say this as only Britain acted this way that was how it was in every powerfull nation and always has been right back to modern humans against Neanderthals, before it was a gun it was a sword or bow and arrow before that sticks and stones, get a grip you idiot.
For you this is true, but for other people the opposite is true. The best way a society can get resolution on different political opinion is for everyone to hear all the arguments and have the electorate vote. This system is called 'democracy' and the only possible alternative is called 'fascism'. Fascism is when some members of society believe their ideas are more justified than any opposing ideas and inevitably they impose their 'truth' on society by using propaganda and fear. In 2016 the UK had a fair referendum, there was record participation and the result was that the UK should leave the EU. So, please stop being a fascist.
@@Iazzaboyce I go by the facts. Something leavers hate, really hate. It's not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact. Leaving will hurt the UK. FACT. Can you assert that it will not?

Amazing these brexit people still being fooled by the like of J.R Mogg a multi millionaire and a hedge fund manager. There's no such thing as a hedge fund manager thats not a self serving sociopath. And again, what laws exactly do you have problems with? Answer, you have no idea.
It's not that Leave voters are inane. It's not right to insult them. It's that this issue is so complex (as can be seen by 'intelligent people' in Parliament, not being able to come to a consensus) that it should never have been put out as a binary referendum question, in the first place. It's way too complex an issue for a simple 'yes' or 'no' to describe what you might feel. In fact, it's a nonsense. I will accept a deal, if we can formulate one, as I have to respect the democratic vote, but I'd prefer a second referendum ideally, as, at least now, we have much, much more information to make our simple, binary 'yes' or 'no' decisions, about this very complex issue.
The last question and answer make me realise this a very sad and never ending problem. The next bigger problem is around the corner. We just need to wait
I'm American and I appreciate James O'Brien a great deal. We're facing the same issues on our side of the Atlantic. It's morbid but misery loves company I suppose. Trump and Brexit may seem like unrelated things on the surface, but the essential problem is the same. The Great Recession created a massive amount of economic anxiety and anger. Politicians gave big business and big banks massive bailouts while the majority of regular folks suffered the consequences of their reckless behavior. Naturally, mistrust of established institutions and leaders surged. Resentment and hate of minorities suddenly became mainstream when we all thought we'd banished such nonsense to the dark fringes of society. Right-wing populists & nationalists swooped in to take advantage of this situation by making eloquent and grandiose appeals to emotion that have masqueraded as "facts." They've successfully manipulated both mainstream and social media as well. I have no clue what the answer is to all this, but I wish mainstream media and the social media giants would do some soul-searching and figure out a solution.
James dose not need a fact checker It's Farage & Reece Mogg who need one or better still just sack the pair of those conning, Lying, racist, fascist, cheating scumbags. You should ask Reece Mogg if you can have some of the £7 million he's already directly as a result of the Brexshit con he was part of.
The only drawback (or should I say 'prime benefit') to that is that it would effectively be the end O'Brien's show, since his entire modus operandi is to use spurious arguments and tendentious 'facts' to bully callers into submission - when confronted by anyone with half a grasp of what's going on, he falls flat on his face.
@@Betterthantelly yeah it's pathetic to try & shut down anyone calling out racism. Listen as long as racism exists I will keep calling it out where It exists.
Just came here from a pro Farage video. The comment section seems a direct mirror image of the other. I feel that this whole endeavour is far more complex than any of us imagined. It feels like we're living in two alternate realities of Britain. That is quite scary. But we as Remainers need to do more, because the other half is extremely active. The main point is to become laser accurate on facts. It is the only way to sort out the mess we're all in. Just keep hammering down on a daily basis. Not because we hate each other, but because we wish them the best.
To a certain extent you're right. However please do consider that leavers will soon switch off if we continue to hound them with these facts, they don't like to have what they would have down as perceived facts force fed to them. They would simply view such a stratagem as more scaremongering and in any case this policy didn't really work last time. It would be better to appeal to their emotion rather than their intellect. It is here that people can be won over as Aaron Banks once said - one of the few accurate things any Brexiteer has ever said!! One example would be to convince them that upon leaving the EU ( depending of course on what one defines as leaving ) the government would concentrate all resources on London's future in order to safeguard that and sacrifice investment in all other regions which would decline further. I don't think too many people would disagree that we live in a London Centric country and considering many of the outer regions voted leave it is they who would therefore feel this backlash. Whilst still in the EU these same regions at least get some investment. I'm surprised more remainers don't see this as a valid argument because it seems fairly obvious to me. However thanks for your mature comments, we do indeed need to help each other by making constructive points. Much better than trying to score points against each other all the time. It is this " them and us" or "people lie you" attitude that's half the problem and BOTH sides are equally culpable.
James "it's why I'm slightly uncomfortable with the suggestion that we shouldn't be condescending or call people stupid because you will be accused of that however you treat a lot of these people"... That's because you are condescending and sneering James. I sometimes agree with James, though I can't help but cringe at how James sneers and interrupts and is condescending whether someone is right or wrong. It isn't a legitimate way to get true answers to be rude.
My question to you is why do you think the MP's wanted the brexit in the first place? People like Farage and Johnson? Where they are now? Why I was seeing farage every single day on the TV and soon the brexit was done they all disappeared.
@@Seba-jq9zm Partly true but Farage has a popular channel on UA-cam but most UKIP types joined the Tories. Well they did around here. The backbench Tories are still there whereas Labour is tacking ever further rightward and playing the race card I areas where they're trying to regain blue wall seats.....
James is quite correct about political panel shows with their supposed impartiality. BBC Question Time on the 7th February, which came from Motherwell in Scotland, is a prime example. A member of the audience was allowed to go on an anti SNP, anti Scottish Independence rant on a question which was about Brexit. The individual had appeared on 3 previous programs coming from Scotland & this was the 4th time that he was allowed to comment. He had previously stood as a candidate for UKIP.
I like JOb he really believes he is right. He sneers at Leave voters but can never except that Democracy gave us Brexit. He will bang on about the Leave campaign lies. He ignores the Remain Lies. He will campaign to rejoin but will never understand why it happened. He does himself no favours by aligning with Femi.
I think the problem is no one wants to take responsibility for what's happened and it's far easier to blame other people. I mean if brexiteers made a thing about the NHS for example which they made a big thing on those buses that more money would go towards it and then as soon as we had the referendum it was the first thing that was pushed back. But I have always believed that Britain is a proud country and so therefore doesn't want to admit if they get it wrong. The other way is some people voted for brexit because they wanted change even if they didn't know what that change was. Looking at the leave campaign and stuff they advertised I can understand why people voted leave even if it was based on lies. For example some of the elderly that voted leave they had lots of retirement homes, care homes taken away and the future won't affect them anyway. Or people that can't afford homes. The prices of homes in the UK is insane. You probably won't be able to pay for one working in a supermarket or other jobs at the minimum wage. Then of course university costs were put up making it harder for people to study. If you have nothing sometimes people have nothing to lose. I think that's partly why people voted to leave. Because they hoped it would bring change and something better then they do now and they are just frustrated that they will blame anyone or use any excuse.
Regarding the question a bit before 34 mins. - maybe Herman/Chomsky might have something to say? That is, a structural critique rather than "I'm a bit good." (I like O'Brien, for the record, and think he speaks a lot of sense.)
Brexshit a wet dream in Harry Potter Land. Comes April Fools 2019. An bottomless abyss in Ukipstan. Britain has failed to modernize it's society and politics.
Again, brexit is now a massive word. Brexit has unveiled historic problems within this country, it is no longer a debate about the EU, but a debate about our own issues within this country
I have learned so much sense about Brexit from James that I would have been deemed uninitiated to know by political parties & bodies tied to their ragtime.
I wonder how the UK will end up after this brexit business is over with whatever result it ends up with. The tone between the two sides is so harsh that I can't imagine there will ever be a return to normal. The hope may be that the people of the toughest fronts are in a big minority and that the common brit is of more sturdy stuff. Time will show
Simultaneously hilarious and depressing, like Farage's plane crash, the incident is the former, his survival is the latter. (well bit harsh, wouldn't wish harm on the racist little twerp really).
James O'Brien will be in the House of Commons at some point, methinks - I hope. He reminds us to ask the right questions, to ask for the right information.
He is an independent journalist, let's hope he remains that way. Trough Brexit, trough government change, shining a light on facts and truth. The UK needs more of those, and less politicians who are on their knees to get reelected.
@@dutchman7623 Seconded. Though I agree with the OP in the sense that parliament could use smart, plain speaking people like O'Brien (and I will not say 'common sense' people because that's a meaningless platitude), not having him as an outside voice would be a loss.
Captain Backfire [aka JoB] would be a perfect leader of the Labour Party. Just like Jeremy Corbyn, he has failed to date to commit to any policy alternative to reverse Brexit - no commitment to a fresh referendum or to revoke the Art. 50 process.
The point on the distrust of the BBC is brilliant. The BBC is known the world over for impartial reporting and for reliable information yet it's distrusted by the English people who favour news outlets that even have a stated agenda. It boggles the mind. [Edit] mediabiasfactcheck.com/bbc/
Every video on UA-cam with James O'Brien in it has an hysterical mob in the comments section ranting about all sorts of mad gibberish. It's profoundly unhelpful.
When everyone's opinion is equally valid and there's no respect for facts nothing matters more than volume. And money makes a great amplifier. Nowadays people seem to rate the validity of a statement by how many upvotes, likes, or views it gets. There was a time when I thought the Internet would be great because it would open up dialogue and make us come to the truth more democratically. I thought people were generally rational and honest. I thought the cream would rise to the top. A few more years has made me realize that cream isn't the only thing that rises. So does pond scum. And now we're in a time when pond scum and cream are expected to be given equal time simply on the basis of their prominence.
No one has explained what will the options be if the undemocratic uk has a so called peoples vote. And what if the result still favors leave .will these people want another vote and if its a remain win would you let the voters who want to leave have yet another vote where will it end
Its called debate and as a leaver I find listening to the concerns of remainers important you should try it. I do not have all the answers but I have a conviction that is as valid as any other I just happen to be on the side that won the referendum and want to get on with it. One thing that concerns me is that a lot of remainers seem to be willing the UK to fail. If we do leave then all hands need to be on deck. The UK for all of its faults is still a tolerant and immensely viable nation and last time I looked one of the worlds greatest democracy's. .
James say's better than I about the lies and the lack of repercussions but it has been one of the things that has upset me most about this whole Brexit Farce.
James O'Brien is wrong about the money point. Just because the money is small compared to other parts of our expenditure doesn't mean it should be dismissed. 47p per person is still a lot of money all together. We paid the Eu 13 billion in 2017. That's a lot of money. Eu spending on Britain is about 4 billion in 2017, so there is 9 billion we can't control. And as a person who claims to be anti-sexist and anti-racist his attitude to working class people who fund his show by calling him is unacceptable.
Why is it so difficult to understand that the access to the single market, that you pay for with that 9 billion you "can't control", completely alleviates that cost. The UK economy is a multi trillion pound economy. 9 billion is a flash in the pan of that amount for what you get out of access to the biggest single market on Earth.
its called a trade arrangement ,we dont give money away even if thats how it might seem ,a sweetener if you like and every one does it . i am working class and proud of it but he does get some morons and he is a lot more polite than i would be
More importantly .. he was COMPLETELY wrong about the "name EU laws you don't like" point. I am happy to name 3 specific ones ... and I can do that repeatedly, with different ones each time ;o). Just because he's too stupid to name 3 he DOES like ( it usually stops at freedom of movement ) is not my fault ;o).
do you think he's funded by paid calls ^^? he's being paid Because he does what he does, the way he does it; more to the point, 13b is not 350m a week, right? and even more so 9b isn't 350m/week; those 9b are a price of membership not a net loss, for that price you get certain privileges, here you can debate that you don't want those particular things, or that they're not worth it (economists will tell you they totally are) but at the end, it's not 9b for nothing, and worse even... you decided to vote based on a huge amount of lies ranging from bananas, through 350m to nhs, up to sovereignty
Since I'm not British can somebody explain it to me why the hell did David Cameron went on with this Brexit referendum when he had absolutely no obligation to do so and he was against Brits leaving the EU. Why did he went on with this suicide move? Thank you
I see no one has answered your question for over 2 years. Cameron gave the country the referendum because of pressure from the right wingers on his back benches and the threat of UKIP (Farage) picking up conservatives votes. The stupidest decision ever made for the sake of retaining power….😱
In Ireland we had a citizens assembly to learn all we could before the abortion referendum we heard in the news everyday what they discussed then the assembly made a recommendation on the vote. You guys rushed into this at the very least I hope you've learned to get all information first then vote.

Well done to these two.

Thanks for the correction, dummy
Due to EU regs I cannot set light to my pillow as the Eurocrats force me to sleep on a "non-inflammable" one. After Brexit I will be free to do so, but Liz Hurley wants to buy less efficient light bulbs so she voted Leave. Sadly for her, that is nothing to do with the EU so she will still have to wait half a second to turn on the light the day after Brexit.
How do you elect the European commission? How do they decide which laws to pass? How do you oppose any laws passed by the commission when EU laws supersede National laws?
Johnnytightfit All of your Question is easily answered. It would be better if you found out for yourself which is very easy to do.
@@46514651 Well if its so easy why can't you explain it?
I have explained this many times to Leavers. Faced with the facts of the matter there are two responses, 1. Violent abuse or 2, a counter argument based on rubbish about the EU being unelected, or a Nazi organisation.
For that reason I think it best Leavers do their own research instead of repeating word for word the lies they love.
Explaining the very democratic processes of the EU so many times only to receive a tirade of abuse has become too much trouble for me to bother. You can easily find out for yourself.

Nice to be among like minded friends. Bounce those ideas and observations around the echo chamber.
Here’s an idea for a change in the format:
Thirty three individuals are split into two groups; 17 who voted Leave and 16 who voted Remain.
That how true points are made sometimes, we had it before and during brexit
When people know that they are losing an argument, why do they revert to insults?
It is a very well known about occurrence. It has to do with the Fight or Flight response. When we start to loss an argument will feel stupid and thus threatened. When threatened the body introduces more adrenaline - which quickens the heart rate and reactions and makes us more aggressive in preparation to fight or run away. I thing it was an important moment for me in my life when I was able to say 'You know what I think you are right, I was being bloody stupid, sorry' and the sky didn't fall in. But it took a lot of years to get to that point.

I don't understand why we are suddenly blaming austerity for the Brexit vote, when UKIP were in existence long before austerity.
and one gave a shit about them
If no one gave a shit about what they were saying, how come there was so much support for Brexit?
That`s my fear as well, Sir... for all of us.

Apart from every argument for and against Brexit there were and still are, fundamental unaddressed aspects to the whole membership referendum of 2016, namely:
1: Constitutional amendments require more than a simple majority.

A "debate" with only one side.

I'd support a fact checker sitting in the LBC studio during O'Briens radio show.
That would be hilarious.
@@MrRailjunkie the racist card is so pathetic.
I voted leave and bitterly regret doing so. We were sold many many lies about control, sovereignty, trade etc.

He will campaign to rejoin but will never understand why it happened. He does himself no favours by aligning with Femi.
Loved all the bald heads in shot when she said about all the young people engaging in the day!
I went bald at 21.
Stop making me feel privileged and elitists, it's elitist and privileged people like you that made me vote Leave... (somehow sounds ironic...)

OK didn't need to wait until 37th minute. Took less than 11 minutes.
Just because he's too stupid to name 3 he DOES like ( it usually stops at freedom of movement ) is not my fault ;o).
do you think he's funded by paid calls ^^? he's being paid Because he does what he does, the way he does it;
more to the point, 13b is not 350m a week, right? and even more so 9b isn't 350m/week;
those 9b are a price of membership not a net loss, for that price you get certain privileges, here you can debate that you don't want those particular things, or that they're not worth it (economists will tell you they totally are) but at the end, it's not 9b for nothing, and worse even... you decided to vote based on a huge amount of lies ranging from bananas, through 350m to nhs, up to sovereignty
mike mcgregor his point was not the amount but that it was agreed by elected British governments and not stolen by the EU. So your point is incorrect
JO'B has converted more leavers to brexiteers - Keep up the good work.
He hasn’t
So 9billion EU contributions is 0.7% of national expendenture ? What does that mean. Is that true ?
OMG Why is he wearing teenage high sole trendy trainers! What a FILA Peed!!!
only you know what that means. Does that mean something?
