The vid quality is a little different from normal as shooting into the sun and tracking powerboats at full send is quite difficult!

Those Skaters are sooooo fast, Doug Wright is a bad ass too. And Jay Pilini makes some great boats too and so does Victory.
Boy, that was a workout for the TV sound system! What a great noise these boats make. Incredibly uncomfortable, incredibly dangerous, and incredibly expensive. Music to my ears
When I was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Key West in 1970 they used to have boat races every Sunday in the channel between the North end of the island and the next island. I worked for the local ambulance service on my time off and we got to do medical stand by for the races. Had lots of fun. I miss those days.
Racing is the last place in offshore where cameras can capture the roaring engines and raw power. Unfortunately on poker runs...with the transition to Mercury verado outboards and the finely tuned twin-turbo Mercury Racing V8's...the raw sound has gone away...except for a few that still run straight headers and pipes. Time to dive into the video archives! :)
Florida Powerboat Club Stu Jones I’m with ya Stu.. nothin like the sound of the non turbo engines. I miss the old days of key west races back in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Over 100 race boats total almost every year. The start of the superboat class was insane..prob 10+ boats in the class some with 4 engines. There was a helicopter for almost every team.. maybe it’ll come back some day but for now your event has def taken over as far as the show. Let’s hope you can do at least a few events this year. Just heard Boyne thunder was canceled.

Very cool. Every time one of those boats gets air I hold my breath. Truly on the edge.
Its really cool how you can see the air current coming off the back of the boats pushing the water coming out of the exhaust down.
It takes “balls of steel” to run that fast, on the “razors edge”.
The water is unpredictable and always changing 👍

I personally would love to see an actual offshore race like West Palm to Bimini and back 120 mile endurance gulf stream crossing. Cannonball style.
isn't that how they used to do the races? but changed them to make it easier for logistics and spectators?
@@ZipZapPower I haven't followed the sport very long I've only seen these circuit style races I just it would be a sight to behold now with modern technology watching them make the Bahamas run.
You might be in luck. There’s a race schedule this year called the “ocean cup” June 4-6 from west palm to freeport Bahamas..not sure if they’re still having the race cuz of the virus crap.. google oceancup.com

I was watching a race the other day on UA-cam and the race HOST/ANNOUNCERS specifically mentioned you and all of the great footage you get.....and they mentioned the other guy that films nearby you or someone that plays loud music while you are filming... :)Keep it up man!

How did you find space to record so close to the water? How did you NOT get crowd noise? How do those boats keep their engines cool with their rear ends hardly touching the water? Dang, they like float over the water.
Thanks. get close to water? get there very early and stake a claim. no crowd noise? ask people to be quiet and turn their radios off or move away from me. Boats keep cool? I'm not sure they do keep cool since the attrition in offshore racing is very high!
Great captures of these powerful machines! Question, why does your motion blur look altered (fluid)? This leads me to believe you're not following the 180 degree rule. This is 60 fps, therefore your shutter should be 120. Any particular reason you choose to break the 180 degree rule?

Thank you for the video . I made the comment the other day on another channel about power cats catching air and how I get nervous when viewing that . Would it be safe to say that the cat upside down was a victim of that ??
yes, they flipped, and i just missed catching it. no injuries because of luck, and the excellent safety in the boats and rescue teams.
