  • @andrewawf9889

    Hats off to anyone who is working with the newer vehicles and thin sheet metal not to mention needing to be a contortionist to access certain areas. That fender came out well considering the level of damage prior.
    Since the lock down due to the virus, I have been working on bodywork on my 64 using a hybrid of techniques to work out creases, dents and some rust repair. Most of the metal thickness is 19 gauge which is like comparing the strength of a manhole cover vs a coke can for the newer vehicles.
    The glue tabs and a couple of pdr rods I made have eliminated needing 6ft long arms to reach areas inside a panel. The hammer and dollies have their uses for the need paint afterwards scenario but the evolution of the pdr tools makes life far easier imo in many ways. Great to see your video highlighting key points about movement elsewhere that can create bigger problems like near the marker light.

    As a profession collision expert and award winning painter, I’m happy to see how far PDR has evolved.. even if it needs paint afterwards it’s far far better than all the costs and expenses of materials and time prior to paint. When I know for a fact that the panel will need paint for what ever reason, I PDR my way through it and leave it with a skin coat of body filler and blend my way out of it when I perform the paint job.
    I just wish actual bodymen would at LEAST invest in PDR tools and learn the trade too and back off the body filler and primer and all that mess. Times are changing... there’s more painters doing PDR than there are bodymen picking up PDR. Nice job.

      Dent Time - San Diego Dent & Bumper Repair ....
      You know what it is, a painter can see through pdr bcs they are at the finishing end of the product... a bodyman doesn’t see the finished product when he sees a dent so they don’t know what to look for .

    What I’ve learned most about this trade over my life you can promote all these products. My best memories of this trade sitting there in the 90’s with non of this advanced technology. It was simply a man his cheap craftsman hammer and a father who I enjoyed all my memories with. Show me where you get 1500 for a repair: do not lose you’re roots: a craftsman never blames his tools

    • @denttime
      @denttime  3 роки тому

      Thanks but what do you mean hard to get that kind of money? Are you using a professional price guide and comparing to a body shop? I have two types of customers. Ones that are fine with not 100% and others that are willing to pay premium for back to pre-accident repairs. It’s not up to me to decide which customer they are. I let them choose but without underselling my value. And just because a customer can’t afford it won’t make my job any easier.

    Is it cheaper just to buy an other fender an repaint it

    • @denttime
      @denttime  4 роки тому +2

      That depends if you want a quality repair or not? The fenders actually cheap the labor and paint is the expensive part plus keep in mind it’s not going to match if you just repaint or replace that fender you have to repaint the entire hood bumper indoor just to get it to match correctly and that’s where it gets super expensive specially if you want it done right.

    • @melondarrat4788
      @melondarrat4788 4 роки тому

      That is true always depend on the car and what the client wants at the end of the day. I am myself a private car painter for dealers and I can tell you that most of the time in retail companies do not care about color match but for the owners it matters a lot!

      The point is PDR is getting better and better. Most jobs come out flawless. Some don’t. And another point is MOST people who understand replacing a panel is more involving than that. 3-5 years from now this will be very common to do dents like this for more money than a body shop undetected. And you’re comment saying it looks tragic is BS. I think you’re in the body shop business yourself and your fearful PDR is taking work away from your industry. Am I right?

      @@denttime Agree ! In bodyshop business myself, much rather give the client a PDR job, retain OE panels, rather than fitting new parts, colouristics, blending, polishing and... and.... Our PDR guy = our Shop's best asset and friend.
