  • Hi everyone, this is quite possibly the most in depth video I have ever created and posted on UA-cam. It shows all the stages of the repair that I had to take to make this front wing/fender look brand new again. It gives you an insight to my method of how I approach a job like this.

    I¨m a dent tech myself and I was surprised at your generosity in sharing what to many is a well hidden secret. It shouldn¨t be on that we agree because at the end of the day it all goes down to personal skils and being professional and not only knowing the tecnichal details about the use of light or having a fancy set of tools. It´s a very interesting approach to me because I go the other way round, that is first thing tap down the crown. I´ll try your way and let you know the results. Not everyone is prepared to explain what they do in detail and it´s the explanation what´s convincing. Best regards from Argentina.

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  4 роки тому +4

      Thank you for your kind words. Not every crown needs tapping down first, every dent is different, there is no harm in experimenting as we learn by our mistakes and that is how we improve. I could have tapped the crown down first but I believe it would have made no difference at all on this dent, there are no hard and fast rules, just guidance and other peoples opinions. All the best to you:-)

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Paul, the umbrella generally goes up more when the sun is out, more than when it is raining, although on this job it was raining quite a lot and was hammering down by the time I finished! I made the umbrella stand out of materials that used to be thrown in the skip at one of the companies i used to do a lot of work for, so didn't cost anything to make, just my time. The umbrella is just a fishing umbrella, could do with a more opaque one though as the sun still gets through a bit on those really sunny days!

      @@frogmanvc Thank you, great to see you're still in the PDR business. The umbrella is great, although I have had a few rubbish ones that blow inside out and break in no time at all. This umbrella is the strongest and best one I have bought thus far. The stand I have built is very strong so the wind has no effect on it when my tool box is sitting on it. The only drawback is that it doesn't cover you if you are working on the middle of a roof, bonnet or bootlid. That's where a canopy is best, however, I like to have a small vehicle and with a canopy you really need to be driving a van, and if you don't dry them properly they can start to go mouldy and smell really bad.

I have been somewhat successful using the standard body tools, wood blocks, and nylon hammers. Sir, may I congratulate you on your accurate analysis of the forces required to correct those dents. You have great knowledge and experience of the behavior of materials and you coax them to regain their original shape with such gentle touches. I love the manner in which you minimize the angle of the crown to a flatter one so that the vectors opposing you will be not directly against what forces you apply. Sir, you are a gentleman full of logic, excellent reasoning and such rational thinking where you look through every step before you leap.
    Once again, my heartiest congratulations. You do respect your customers and so that is the way to success, Wish you all the best. You are a good man.
