    I think it’s so cool that you already noticed that mechanic-connection between endgame Iceborne hunts and 3U hunts (so far).
    I think old crusty hunters sometimes get the impression that new MH games are all mindless button mash hunts. And a lot of them are, but alatreon, Fatalis, and Velkhana prove that you can make methodical, deliberate encounters in a faster-paced, smoother engine.
    Very insightful observation, especially for someone newer to the games.

    • @CaptainEffort
      @CaptainEffort 3 роки тому +13

      You’re absolutely right, but you must admit that World only having around 3 or so fights like that is kinda the problem for older hunters? It’s not that reactionary combat is bad, most of my favorite games are like that, but lots of us like Monster Hunter for it’s methodical, purposeful combat, and for the most part World/Rise doesn’t have that.
      Still love World and Rise, but it’s an understandable issue I think.

      @@CaptainEffort yes I totally agree that 5th gen needs more hunts like these. It feels like Capcom has been too scared lately to make early monsters challenging, and it is holding them back from making encounters like we see on a more regular basis in older generations.

    • @kurosan0079
      @kurosan0079 3 роки тому +5

      @@marcofromtropoje3169 One idea I have is to simply just make the early monsters hit a lot harder and make their down times a little bit shorter. Make early monsters simple enough to understand how they fight, but much more punishing when you do get hit. I think this will make combat a lot more deliberate since the player can't get away with mindless attacking anymore.

    • @marcofromtropoje3169
      @marcofromtropoje3169 3 роки тому +1

      @@kurosan0079 I agree, those seem like reasonable fixes. The movesets of new monsters like Aknosom and Bishaten are pretty interesting and hard to avoid but they are just lacking in damage, and they get constantly interrupted by our insane damage.
      Doesn’t help that we can heal pretty much instantly too.
      My fear is that people will complain that damage buffs for the monsters would just be “artificial difficulty”, but I think that would actually be a step in the right direction

    • @kurosan0079
      @kurosan0079 3 роки тому +1

      @@marcofromtropoje3169 Yeah, the instant healing is way too forgiving in my opinion and it should go back to how it was in World.
      Another thing I would want them to change is the camp. Not sure how to change it exactly, but as it is now, it's way too strong.
      And yeah, people would complain if the monsters' damage were buffed, but I think it should be easy enough to adjust.

    I watch the full stream the other days and got a couple of suggestions to ease your journey
    1. Keep a to-do list so that you are aware and know what you want to get. That way every time you are on a quest you can spend several minutes each quest doing gathering to complete your list.
    2. To be an accomplished hunter you need to use all resources available. So download all maps with resources point as well as weapon tree so that you can plan on what to do and how you can do it. Those data are crucial to ensure each playtime is meaningful and you make actual progress. and not just wandering around mindlessly.
    3. Pre quest preparation. Since you only starting and doing the village quest, I would suggest always having these items before starting the quest.
    1. Whetstones - Half from max
    2. Potion - 10
    3. Book of combine 1 & 2(Crucial for combining to make the mega potion without fail)
    4 Paintball
    5 Pickaxe/Bug (depend on your todo list)
    6 Stamina item( steak)
    These are the basics and it is advisable to always gather(honey, Herb, Blue mushroom, whetstone) so that you can increase your stockpile by just gathering and not spending money or resources so early in the games. The list will change once your progress into the games and you know what actually is needed to depend on the quest.
    4. Always eat ration/steak to max your stamina bar. Always ensure your stamina bar are full so you can do a lot of things before you run out of stamina.

    MHGU is the only old game i played, and that old world "clunkiness" is one of the reasons why i love to go back to it every now and then. The fights in old MH games are unforgiving so you have to be very methodical and careful, and you have to ration your use of items because you cant replenish your items at camp. Grinding and the desire sensor is something synonymous with the older games. Sometimes the material you want can only be acquired by breaking a part that's hard to reach or has a really high damage threshold. It's part of the reason why clownsuits (mixing armor parts) was more common before world. mhw and by extension ib, made it really easy to get most sets and min-maxing the skills.

    Older games definitely appeal more to patient/methodical hunters who basically play defensively, and the newer games appeal more to aggressive hunters that enjoy being constantly on offense

    re the lower drop quantities: Have fun hunting Lagiacrus like 50 times because its armor kicks ass but it requires an item with a reward rate between 3% and 6%!

    man, sharpness is definitely a big priority when you first start out in any of the older games. I have PTSD of not bringing enough whetstones with me a couple times, my lord is it genuinely painful. doesn't make things more 'difficult' but it sure does make that hunt timer go , i didn't see the stream but I have no doubts this is the reason your peco hunt took so long. IMO not enough people mention the massive difference between yellow and green sharpness, it's ridiculous

    The reason the onion mask bois are better than palicos is because they are buff as all hell in 3U for some reason. They get some upgrade system later in the game where you can make them so strong they can break monster parts and practically carry hunts for you stupidly easily, not to mention the legendary mask, which makes it so that monsters only target them 70% of the time while taking their own strength even further beyond.

    You talking about the differences in combat between 3U and World/Rise is so validating, you have no idea. While yes, to those of us that started with older games this is common knowledge, it’s not easy to articulate to players that have only played World/Rise and think that the only difference in combat is the lack of “clunkiness”. It’s hard to explain to them that that “clunkiness” is intentional, and forces a more methodical, purposeful playstyle. It doesn’t mean that one form of gameplay is better than the other, just that they *are* different. It was really cool to see you catch that so quickly.

  • @kurosan0079
    @kurosan0079 3 роки тому

    That intentional gameplay is what I and many others miss so much from old gen MH. Getting hit is always punishing and the overall combat is much more deliberate, so you really have to pay attention to what the monster is doing if you want to fight effectively. There's less emphasis on doing combos and flashy special moves. It's all fundamentals. I know that style isn't for everyone, but it's one of the things that really makes Monster Hunter unique as an action RPG.

    Does anyone actually know about what the respawn rate on Goldenfish is? I have never had an issue with any golden fish quest. Are people like, abandoning the quest if none spawn? All you have to do is run back and forth between zones and it respawns all 5 fish. Just seems like impatient or not understanding how the mechanics work.

    I still think being deliberate is still weapon dependent. If you're playing Duel blades you don't get as methodological as say you would have to with a Hunting Horn. Once you have a handle on what you're doing it becomes second nature regardless of your weapon choice.

    With 3U and other older games, you really have to break a lot of parts and also capture to get many rewards. Even then you often have to hunt something 10 or more times to complete an armor set if it requires rare materials.
    The older style and feel of gameplay are exactly why I didn't put much time into World. The further back you go, the slower paced it gets. In monster hunter one most monsters waste your time more often than actively engaging you. Rathalos will just fly around far out of range for the vast majority of his hunt and keep switching areas.

  • @jeremyjmusic
    @jeremyjmusic 3 роки тому +14

    Also 3U was definitely the days back when that capturing, gives you more rewards than killing the monsters.

    • @LucasTigy2
      @LucasTigy2 3 роки тому +15

      never. capturing has never given more rewards. in fact, until world, it has always given you less rewards because you got 2 rewards instead of 3 carves.
      capturing is only good when you need specific rewards. it changes the percentages you will get certain items.

    • @adsventuresome7511
      @adsventuresome7511 3 роки тому +2

      Capturing is only really good if you're going for the rare drop because most of them in this game don't drop from body carves. Tldr: always capture Raths and Lagia. You will have such a harder time getting rare drops

    • @carstan62
      @carstan62 3 роки тому

      @@adsventuresome7511 It also heavily depends on what monster you're fighting. For example you can carve Zinogre Jaspers/Skymeralds and while I don't remember the exact percentage comparison, I'm pretty sure the extra carves make slaying more/just as favorable. And then you have the 4 carve monsters which is even more skewed towards slaying.

    Huh, never thought of Curupeco as a DUCK!! 🤣
    That aside, I completely understand the your topic of the difference between OG MH and World/Rise. I started replaying MH Freedom Unite using a Vita, and recently fought a TIGREX! WHAT A HUMBLING EXPERIENCE!!!
    Failed the mission 6 TIMES!! And it was a NORMAL FIGHT!! Not High Rank, not Master, NORMAL!!
    Eventually, I got my myself up, properly replan my strategies, and did it! I beat this TIGREX!! These games demand one thing over everything else, TO GET GUD AND EARN YOUR SKILLS!!! And I believe it’s something that got lost a little with World/Rise.
