When I first got into it decades ago, I went to this drum tutor who lived across the road.I had no intention of learning techniques, just rock and roll drums.Of course he was a jazz drummer who brought me up on that stuff.Incuding paradidle accent variations and ways to play that around the kit.I know it's just mad.He got me playing stroke rolls based on double strokes and he even teached me the paratriplet.Right left left right left. Then the accent and flam variations on para triplets. Its crazy .
You should get into flam rudiments it gets pretty wild i will say it is mostly for marching drums but they’re a lot of fun, floppies cheeses swisses all of them are sick
I would add the drag as a vitally important 5th rudiment - rrL llR....Lrr Rll.....especially as it introduces a rudiment naturally felt in triplets, whereas I would suggest that the other 4 are naturally felt by beginner's in duplex phrases. With those 5 you can do a vast amount
I saw you at Namm, i wanted to come say hi but i was holding my drumsticks and was not down to play terribly in front of you 🤣 love your videos! Was a privilege to see you at Namm 🙌🏻
You + The other drummer on the algorithm just taught me the understanding behind how deums work. Thank you! I was taught music playing the trumpet and we don't "follow" the drums. Edit: I just realized you ARE the other drummer on the algorithm 😆😆. All Thanks to YOU 💪🏾💯💯💯
The paradiddle, i didn't get it ever so fast, how hard i tried. I don't know why... The slaps (i call them flames) i love those ones and i play that one even better.
I know i said it before but don't underestimate triples RRRLLL. you can even play them with flams instead of the RLrLRl (flam singles) In any case, thanks!
Thanks for these wonderful lessons. You really simplify the learning process. Can you share which electronic drum kit you are using? Which one would you recommend?
I guess it‘s the beginnimg of: It smells Like teen spirit from Nirwana. Awesome Song and awesome Drums by Dave Grohl 🥁 Thank you, cool Video . Greetz from Germany
how long did it take you (or anyone else in the comments) to be able to do a different timed beat with your feet and your hands simultaneously? i just CANNOT do it
Some simple truths take time to truly understand and appreciate. Also, while it is true and helpful to understand the fact that most rudiments and patterns can be broken down into combinations of either singles our doubles, this understanding is not the be all end all either. Playing the drums is about much more than just knowing what sticking patterns are or how they usually work. You can, for example, correctly describe a paradiddle as two singles and one double, sticking wise. However, to get quite comfortable with a paradiddle at different tempos, one must understand the different motions required (e.g. some moeller whip action, maybe looking into the triple stroke roll etc. etc.). The point I'm trying to make is: drumming, at least to me, can sometimes feel very simple and extremely complicated at the same time. Ideas and concepts that simplify things are helpful. You're not stupid for not seeing or even on your own coming up with these ideas, because, even if some things may be simple, that doesn't mean they're easy to grasp.
"Stick Control" is the iconic book to work on rudiments.
Adding to cart now, thanks (:
Great book!
And it's sequel "Accents And Rebounds" is absolute quality too.
Smells Like Teen Spirit. I played it at a gig on bass last night, I need to recognise that intro 😁
Although its kinda wrong, dave hit the hi hats with the kick
@@innergenichiroActually Grohl does 4 measures of flam, kick, hi hat, kick
Flam, rest, flam , rest….
the mother of all drums has blessed us with more drum knowledge we thank you
I just became a beginner self taught drummer! Thank you
I played drums pro over 25 years...I am so happy to see young women like yourself playing too....especially teaching...you Rock
Yes there are many female drummers out there these days.
Many on UA-cam and most seem obsessed with metal.
As previously mentioned, you are the best.
Right left, times, ….. many. Proceedes to shred like a boss

Pata fla flas, Flamadiddles😂
that look after your "double" segment was priceless
I am not a drummer but I still love watching your videos 😊
My biggest drumming mistake I ever made, was overlooking doubles and not practicing them enough. Really undermined my drumming for a long time

I could watch/listen to you 24/7.
You should do a collab with estepario siberiano. Showing how he can use basic techniques to do advanced moves.
I learned these in this exact order. Then I learned to place accents in different places while doing these rudiments. Good work.
Smells Like Teen Spirit!!
I think there shouldve been some hihat action in between those flams and basses for that
@@MerijnHperhaps she didn’t want to put it there
@@Remooverevans yea i guess but then she wouldnt really be playing Teen Spirit right?
Here we are.
Now, entertain us.
Gap Band - Early in the morning
My favorite rudiment is the flam drag; Hertas being close behind that.
I am learning that it truly is about the stick control. Thank you for your videos!

The part right before the flams sounded like the intro to The Wolf is Loose by Mastodon 😮
That's what I was about to comment 😊
The paradiddle example
I could use this for songs
Excellent.
thanks!
You are freaking awesome & hilarious!! 🙌🙌🙌
I’m especially good at accidental flams.
As a dave grohl influenced drummer i use flams all the time
I don't know play drums but the explication is very interesting...
This is great content!!
Thank you ❤
The paradiddle, i didn't get it ever so fast, how hard i tried. I don't know why... The slaps (i call them flames) i love those ones and i play that one even better.
Do you have any tips on increasing speed, I can't drum that fast
Great 😊
Hey! Do you give in person drum lessons? Many thanks Julia

Very clear
The flam accent is probably my favorite
I know i said it before but don't underestimate triples RRRLLL. you can even play them with flams instead of the RLrLRl (flam singles)

Thanks for these wonderful lessons. You really simplify the learning process. Can you share which electronic drum kit you are using? Which one would you recommend?
How do you get the writing on the screen for your videos?
Got to love an oul ratamacue too.
I was gonna guess "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the Flam song part, but the hi-hats were left out so I have no idea what song that was.
That's Smells Like Teen Spirit, I played it earlier today on drums with my friends lol
I can't reach it double stroke. How can I make😢?
Could you do a video on timing?
You just discovered America 👍
What about buzz
I think I'm in love

Is it not easier to say there is only 3 rudiments Singles, Doubles, and Flam every else is a combination plus a selection of accents.
Dude the parradidle is definitely the intro from brann dailors here come the wolves!
The wolf is loose? Deffo sounds like that.
how long did it take you (or anyone else in the comments) to be able to do a different timed beat with your feet and your hands simultaneously? i just CANNOT do it
The song is "come as you are" by nirvana
Right band, at least.

Smells like teen spirit is indeed the song
What kit is that?
Looks like the Roland TD-30 KV based on that Drum Module.
can someone explain HOW are doubles faster than singles? it makes no sense to me
SLTS was played wrong. Theres an open hihat that isnt there in her version
How to do it so fast 😮
I’ve been drumming in bands for 15 years and knew of the flam only. My goodness I suck
Good ❤❤❤
Smells like teen spirit at the end 🔥
Gotta even out all of your double strokes mate.

Not many cymbal hits but is it smells like teen spirit?
No hi hat for teen spirit?
Seriously your videos are doing so much for this self taught drummer lol.

Teen spirit.. so obvious even guitarist sees it :)
Smells like teen spirit ❤️. You're the best!
But doubles don't sound the same as singles.
And the buzz 😅
It took me until today to realize...that every single rudiment use at least 1 of these 4 ideas...I'm so stupid🤦♂️
