So good to have Brand Battle back. I’m so glad so many of you are enjoying it.
Robin James how r u robin
Robin, great video. I use the layrite clay from time to time, I rate it but it isn't perfect, for all the reasons you list. Of those products you have used, which product (clay or otherwise) would you say has the greatest hold on its own, without hairspray?
Got pretty fine hair and cement is just to thick and sticky for my hair it tends to rip out so many strands.
Any of you ever tried Paul Mitchell's tea tree shaping creme?
Robin James good video Robin! But what’s the name of the music in the intro? Pls answer. I have look on Spotify but can not find the son under the link that you have linked in the description
Robin James so basically layrite is a water based wax or a matte pomade?
Im very happy you uploaded this!
This video is just what I wanted; I've had the cement clay on my radar for a little bit now, thank you!
Great stuff Robin! Love the brand battle videos. Gives me the info I can never seem to find. And when I do find it, i can very rarely trust 😂 appreciate all the time you put into these. They’re very helpful
Thanks for the review I needed someone to confirm what I thought myself about the Layright's hold. Halfway through the day it always seemed to fall apart and would be hard to put back together and it definitely made my hair feel heavy which was bad for me as I have finer hair. Overall great job, I really like your reviews :)
Amazing new battle brand series, Robin.
Please consider doing a Top 5 of your favorite matte hair products of all time (apothecary 87, label m, hanz de fuko, Lockhart...). It would be the most-viewed video in the History of Internet :D
Yessss! Latest brand battle.
Just great GREAT info and this is what is needed!!! 👍🏼
Some advice on using Layrite Cement Clay: wet your hands a little before using it. The product is water soluble, so it will thin and disperse the clay without having to work it in your hands forever. And it eases the application by allowing you to work it into your hair without feeling like you're pulling your hair out. I hope this helps someone else.
Found this a year later, but thank you so much 💀
Very helpful. I've been using it for a year or more. I'm going to try this tomorrow.
Yes it work. Tq
Im loving the hair in this video Robin! So cleannnn!
Thank you
Been watching your vids for about 2 months but now im subbed! Yay!
Ah, great! Welcome.
Great review robin, informative as always. Keep it coming.
Thanks Kamal.
Hi Robin I just wanted to thank you for your Nioxin video. The product helped me a lot, thank you so much. Keep doing this and awesome work
This is good news. Glad it's been working for you.
Thank you for this review Robin.
Layrite smells amazing and I tried to love it but hold was major turn off. Thought it was just me.
keep up the good work, love these videos,
I started viewing your videos when I was 14. I am a superfan. All of your videos are exciting.I came across your channel in 2016.The first video I viewed from your channel is how to use hair mousse.I must say you are doing a good job.I myself love these stuff. Cheers😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Thanks so much, Valerie.
Please do ByVilain Powermade and Mister Pompadour Peppermint Pomade. Both look same but what's the difference? Please do a brand battle.
Layrite is the bomb!! In my arsenal..end result-wise once settled in hair (combability), on par with Krewcomb Masterwax < GBS Hair Control Wax. Heads up if you thought Layrite to be heavy, try the GBS. Can’t believe there aren’t any reviews for it on here! Love your review, never get tired of them..very useful in terms of user point of view👍
Robin, what product do you like most that you use now? I’d imagine it has great hold AND gives volume too (after prestyle)
When I first started styling my hair, I have thin hair too but a lot, I used layette clay and I need to get some again its just expensive sadly and I am in college but its way better then any budget brands
Wait, I think you could remove points if you wanted because it's your channel and you can do whatever you want lol. Awesome vid anyways!
But if I started doing that there would be no purpose in having a points system.
@@ManForHimself it could be part of the point system . Or you could give both products a score or amount of points and if its severely disappointing like the hold give them a 0 or negative points.
Robin James I think there’s still a point in the points system. People clicking on these videos just want to know which one is better. If you think one is better, it should have more points. If something seriously underperforms, it makes sense to remove points
Agreed.more points for the product that performs better (3 points) vs. less points (1 point) for packaging which is just window dressing for example. A point system is fine, just tweak it.
Errr...yeah, thanks for that, but now I still don't know which to choose. You've done well to push me to get both
james please do kevin murphy night rider vs moroccan oil texture clay. they are alex costas fafourite products and i would like to know which is better
What does he say?
Robin James he says that both are great but he doesnt really know for sure
I just love these videos, please keep them coming Robin. Also i'm curious about which is your favourite finishing product for maximum hold.
Thanks Thomas. I love Wella Silvikrin Classic, maximum hold!
Big fan of Lockhart’s I might have to check out the Matte Clay one of these days.
You should make a video explaining which order you should use pre stylers. I’m new to this and I don’t know if I can use a mousse, thickening tonic and sea salt spray and I don’t know if you just throw it all on then blow dry or use one then blow dry then repeat? Also I have straight fine hair if you wanted to know
Hey Robin, could you do a review on pacinos matte and creme? Awesome Video.
Great upload Robin,
I find that American Crew products have the same problem as Layrite;
they start off looking great and fall like a ton of bricks by the end of the day.
Ayy Robin what products would you use for a 90s Leo Depp slick back, and how would the combination of that and a fade look? Too much? Do tell 😁
New version of layrite is awesome, great hold, nice matte, love it. Great brand battle.
Is the Layrite cement clay redone in the same packaging some years ago, or are you referring to Layrite super hold?
I think maybe giving partial points to both or negative points (like more of a rating system rather than a winner-take-all) would be a good idea. That way you could compare products from video to video based on what overall rating you gave them.
Mr. James, you should do a review or brand battle of the Cardinal brand. I couldn't find anything about it on youtube
Are Taft products like molding clay or Syoss hair wax good? I have thin hair and I want to get it in shape and to just be in control of my hairstyle.
Great video! Can anyone help me with this question. I’ve been using Layrite Cement Clay for 4 days now and the build-up (despite using cleaning shampoo) is awful. My hair is greasy and limp.
Does anyone know of a similarish product that ACTUALLY washes out easily?
how can a product with abysmal hold come out on top? surely that is the key factor here when all said and done? interesting one again Robin! keep it up! Also take a look at Shear revival pastes, Flagship pastes and Nostalgic Grooming pastes, stellar stuff! the homebrewer market is where its at
ThatsTheBadger hey man, what’s a good paste for me? I want a high hold product. I’ve been using mister pompadour beeswax paste and the Odouds matte paste
Robin i really want u to answer this....my barber spray some liquid on my hair and then blow dry my hair then my hair became silky smoth soft and have more volume and shine .. i have thin hair...usually when i blow dry my hair in home the just became very dry and have no shine...so what is that liquid that barber sprayed over my hairs??
Oh my God, finally! I've been very busy these past few weeks so I wasn't able to catch up on your videos these past few days :( I'm glad I'm just right on time! Thank you again, Robin! Your videos are helping me become confident. They even actually help me release stress.
This is great. I'm happy that I can help, Nick.
Hey robin,if i go to london where is the best place to buy mens hair product like a clay? Btw love ur videos
Sooo I have extremely fine hair and I have a cowlick in the front I also keep my hair fairly long would this stuff work for me to try and contain the front cowlick That's what my hair salon lady said I'm just curious if there's any other long haired men here that would know
Hi i need some advice which one stronger for hold lockhart matte or d wax? Thanks
I think the ingredients should be a category up for grabs.
Your hair sure looks a lot thicker and Better amazing video btw😍👌
Thanks Parth.
I just bought layrite. It's an amazing clay. The only problem I have with it is, I don't like the smell. It's smells sort of like coconut. But it's so easy to apply and style with.
I have a question, is it true that the layrite hair clay is a bad product because of the petrolatum in it? I saw it coming by on google and was wondering what is true of it.
Hey Robin any more vlogs coming? Also, thank you for the brand battle!
Could be soon!
Thanks for this Robin. I was going to buy layrite, due to its hold factor but judging my reviews and now yours I'm not going to. I've heard its quite a greasy product and I think you experienced this when you mentioned it was fairly heavy after frequent use.
at the moment I've been used quicksand with claymation.
I did have baxter of California clay pomade but I've stopped using it I find its actually quite greasy as well, what are your thoughts?
any recommendations on very high hold but matte styling product?
Hey, have you seen the clay reviews on my channel? Might be best to start there and see what could suit you. There are A LOT of different things out there.
Hi Robin,
Good video, thank you - it was of particular interest to me as I own both of these clays.
I was wondering can you share any experience you may have with our home Great British brand Lock Stock & Barrel? They do a clay called 85 Karats, for example.
I also would be interested, given your love for Aveda's tonic, to know if you've tried Aveda's hair clay. I have this Aveda clay and it is quite unlike most other products. You may be interested to try it out and I'd certainly be keen to hear how these fare in your far-reaching gauge of experience with innumerable hair products!
Cheers!
Which clay have you tried that has the most hold? I was also disappointed with layrite cement clay. May try Lockhart's.
Can you please do a brand battle on apothecary 87 clay pomade and claymation
I used to be a big fan of the Layrite Cement when my hair was shorter, but now that it has gotten a bit longer (4" or so), I really have come to dislike the layrite. The product is very hard to apply and ends up being way too heavy for my thick hair - makes my hair look gross and weighed down. Application is also really not good, I find there is way too much tug and resistance which makes it difficult to evenly distribute throughout. I have come to much prefer the layrite Natural Matte Cream as both a pre- and post-styler as my hair has gotten longer.
As I say again...Love the background
thanks Stephan
Robinnn.... Have a great day Robin.. huge fan here..
Thanks Ian!
Hey Robin! Love the series and I have a suggestion...it would be really helpful if you could include the price of the products in the video like you used to. Keep up the great content. Cheers.
I think AC have a better hold, for sure.
Hey mate ☺ nice battle brand's but tell me what u using everyday for example on this video? 😉
I wonder how the Layrite would respond to medium-length thick hair?
Maybe Nioxin diaboost vs Aveda thickening tonic?
Ooh... Good one!
Reuzel clay and reuzel fiber, please make a video with your impressions or a brand battle I would really like to know your opinion
Me too! I really like Reuzel Fiber and need to try their clay out soon. Wonder what Robin thinks about them.
Hi Robin, I just wanted to ask you one question: could you please reply with all the hair products you use (shampoo, conditioner, wax etc) ? And could you make a video of your daily/weekly hair routine ? I have really thin and fine hair, and I can't even have a faded hairstyle because you can actually see my scalp through the hair (like in your worst haircut ever video) so I was wondering if I could talk to an expert like you to assess how I could treat my hair better.
Thank you in advance for the advice
looking sharp Robin;)
Thanks dude, you helped me avoid buying Layrite, I thought it had a stronger hold. 😓
Nice set robin💗👌
Thanks. It's my office!
Please review Anchors Courage Clay!!!! Amazing video by the way! Much appreciated👏🏼
Great video robin i really enjoyed it!
But do you have the name of the song in the background, i really like birocratic but i can not find this song.
Hey, will check in my edit. I switch between a few.
James please review hairbond btw love your vids!!!
I understand where you're coming from on this Robin but I personally like the Layrite much more than you did. I wear a low fade with my hair on top about 1.5 inches and the Layrite is perfect for it. Unfortunately the Lockharts is a bit greasier and the wind at work seems to stand the hair up and leave it up, not a good look for me. But honestly, these are two of my top products, the other ones being my Gatsby Extra Hold Wax and 18.21 Clay. The Lockharts can become perfect for me if I use some dry shampoo to take away some of the greasiness of the wax. All about working with what we have, yeah?
Thanks for the review!
You are 100% right about the layrite, I always find myself resetting it constantly through the day, but it does not have a very good hold.
Hold just isn't good enough!
I REALLY like your hair like this.
Thanks!
Robin James Can you do a tutorial on this or tell us what you used and how you did it?
I'm watching your videos and reviews because I recently got a pixie cut and in need of a good hair product🙊🙏
I have fine hair and just purchased layrite cement clay a day before this video cause I heard it's good, holds very well and doesn't flatten your hair but after this video now I wish I bought lockhart xD Anyway you're doing good work with these videos.
Label.m moulding clay or layrite cement clay? Please help!
As much as smell and feel and all that is important, at the end of the day how the product works is what's important to me. If the one that won out of these two is the more disappointing of the two, im not sure how it won. I do appreciate the in depth review of both of them, but if the one that is disappointing one, and the one that you would trust more lost, that seems like the weighting is off. I do love this series though, and that may be just because of what I'm looking for in a product. I appreciate the review and comparison between products!
Your experience with hold is kinda strange to me ive been using cement clay for a year now and its hands down the best ive used after work and a hard workout my hair still looks great and it doesnt get too hard
Is Layrite Cement Clay good for a thin hair?
Never found a product that wasn’t a massive hold gel, that would hold my hair, so, Layrite for its initial performance and freeze it with hairspray I guess
Your hair looks the best this way Robin. Don't change it :)
Thanks Khoi
Hi Robin, could you do a review on Sebastian craft clay? Maybe do a brand battle with it vs Blacklabel craft clay. Great content as always, keep it up! 👍
Thank you for the suggestion.
How’s the smooth viking clay
Wooooo I’m tellin you Layrite has stepped up their game :) I feel like the hold wasn’t great for you because cement is more suited for Thicker hair so that’s a bummer but honestly it’s great for me
Surely the hold should be even better in my hair because it's so light?
Robin James well I figured that since it’s probably one of the heaviest products I’ve personally used it would make super weigh down fine hair and not give much hold compared to thick hair that could work with it more. I could be completely wrong but that’s just my 2 cents
Have you tried Fuertes Clay? I got it and it reminds me a lot to Patrick M3. A Brand Battle between these 2 would be a Good one. Excellent video as always Robin, your hair is looking good
Still to try, It's on the list! (a rather long list!)
Is hairspray suitable for Layrites?
Also when are u doing the series on review on hair products from different countries
When I get somewhere else!
Hey Robin could you review the dollar shave club hair products. I keep hearing about them in ads.
Hey Thomas, will pop on the list.
I was hoping to see your opinion of the Carter fortify clay, maybe against baxter of california or something?
Need to get on it!
Should start this with other items like fragrance or clothing e.g. are Adidas better than Nike for running or tom Ford vs creed?
Would love to, Thomas. It's definitely on the list!
Can you try some messy-look products?
I've found that the Layrite cement only loses its hold in very humid environments. Day by the beach? It's done. Inside my office during the week? All day hold.
Would you recommend the Lockhart's clay over Apothecary 87's clay?
Ooh... that is such a hard question! I'm not sure I would, but then I love them both for different things.
Make a video on By vilain and Baxter of California products in brand battle
Which ones?
P.S. Please is a word I love.
Ur hair looks amazing in this video! what we're u using?
Sohail Azam it’s in the description
Nt4ubs knows!
Hello Robin! How are you? I hope you’re well. I’m currently looking for hair products and was wondering if you could help. I currently have Claymation and Quicksand. I find they don’t work well as an everyday product due to the clay and product buildup and it’s hard to wash out. I’m wondering if you know of any products that have a smooth consistency, that get into the hair easily but won’t stiffen too much after styling and also that would wash out easily. I have thick and wavy hair if that changes anything and it’s about medium length. As always this was a great video and I look forward to more content. Thanks Robin and have a good day. :) (by the way loving that blazer)
Hey Justin. I'm great thanks. Hope you are too?
Best thing would be is to search 'clay' on my channel and check out some of those. Easier for you to see how they work.
I am great thank you! From what I have seen based on your videos, the best thing for me to do is purchase a water based clay (not like the hanz de fuko products I have now) Some of your clay videos are quite a bit older so I was wondering if you had any water based clays that you recommend now in 2018 that perhaps you haven't made a video about or that you've come to love in the last little while. Cheers!
I’ve been using Layrite Cement for years because I have very thick, hard to style hair. It works okay on shorter hair, but it really doesn’t hold well. Also, as soon as I start running or something, the Layrite breaks down and my hair collapses. Anyone recommend any products that hold up to sweat well and work in longer, thick hair? I’d like a matte finish, I find Layrite is too shiny.
Apothecary 87? Has a light shine to it.
By villain wax zero and sponge wax, etc
Wish I watched this review before I dropped $30 CAD on the layrite clay. I had the same experience, super responsive and styles great at first. But a couple hours later and the hold just fails so hard.
I wish it were more common for brands to sell inexpensive samplers.
Do one on Reuzel's Extreme Hold Matte!
Nice vid, I’ve bin looking for a new clay that has hi hold, lo shine, and easy to use
You going to try one of these?
Robin James yea most likely
Do the Layrite matte cream. That’s the one most barbers use cause it isn’t as heavy as the clay. I have thick hair and it works perfectly.
LuckEdude _ I might try it. How does it hold up throughout the day? I have very thick hair.
Bad advice. Totally different applications. The clay is for a firm, plyable hold. The creame is for a light, loose hold.
@@jshannon2k8 lockhart's sucks
lockharts clay or baxter of california clay?
Love the background salute and much success.
Thanks!
I love these "Brand Battle" videos. For me, Matte Clay, by Lockhart's is the best matte clay so far. I've tried at least 20 clays in the market, and no one does the job so well.
I agree with Layrite Cement hold sucking. I used to have it.
Not great at all!
