Here's my continuation to my breakdown video for THE BATMAN that I posted the other day. I aim to address the biggest questions and easter eggs that I didn't cover in that video, but there still may be ones that you may have picked out. So let me know down below.

I really hope that a future movie has Bruce hunting down answers to the mystery of his parents’ murder upon discovery of more potential clues, leading him to investigate the Court of Owls (hopefully enlisting the help of the Riddler) and ultimately confront the real personal motive for his crusade, his trauma, giving us the real psychological deep-dive I felt was lacking here.
I have always felt like the reason Bruce keeps fighting is that he is hunting for some closure to his parents’ death that he can never find because it really was a random event, and I think sending him on a futile hunt for a final answer and forcing him to accept that he doesn’t need it would be a great final arc.

The card riddle left at the murder of the Mayor had an owl on it. It would be cool if somehow you go back and some of the riddles and clues also indicate further that there is a "Court of Owls" preventing the 'renewal' of Gotham. Its a great way to bring back the Riddler and others.

The mystery of the Wayne's deaths and the flooded city sets up perfectly for a Court/City of Owls/Talon and No Man's Land/Arkham City type story. Which is awesome.

I don't think a psychological deep dive would've been a good move for the first movie in this new universe. It's pace would have to be far slower, and I feel like it would seem a lil on the nose given that Joker was truly a psychological deep dive. It's something that could 100% be done in a future movie, but not as the introduction to the latest film iteration of Batman, it still needed to be a Batman movie, and I think it set the stage brilliantly.

I really hope that Joker isn’t going to be the main villain in the sequel, it’s still too soon to have ANOTHER Batman vs Joker movie, I’m pretty much over that. Maybe keep him as a background character for the sequel, then bring him more into focus in the third installment.

    • @halloweenfriday

That’s a very good idea, or maybe have him be a main or supporting character in the Arkham spin-off. That said, I’m glad the Joker’s existence in this universe has been addressed, and I can’t wait to see more of Barry Keoghan’s Joker! If you’ve seen The Killing of a Sacred Deer or The Green Knight, then you know he can pull off a sinister and manipulative take on the iconic Clown Prince.

    • @justthinkingoutloud2538

I hope he is played as a master manipulator behind the scenes leading up to a big final confrontation as the climax of the trilogy, which I hope also ends with his taking in Dick Grayson.

I definitely do not want Joker as the main villain in the sequel. Keep him very very minimal. Let Anarky or Ventriloquist or Firefly or Clock King or Rupert Thorne or Even the Phantasm shine first. They could do a kickass Mr. Freeze version. I'd love to see Man-Bat but I guess I settle for his tiny cameo in BvS UE.

The first movie was amazing and I am beyond excited about the potential of the next few movies. This could be really special guys! So excited!

I think introducing the Court of Owls as the main villains for the sequel makes the most sense imo. It was alluded to by Colson when he said something like, “No they’ll never let me live.” Remember that part? It just makes too much sense. I think it could play out like MI 5: Rogue Nation meets Eyes Wide Shut. Like stil that noir detective thriller with a cult story element intertwined in there. Could be really great.
I also think Two Face would be a great character to introduce. I think Reeves could model this after the Telltale Series, as there are a lot of things in The Batman he takes from that game. One thing Reeves could do is introduce Harvey Dent as he maybe is campaigning to be major or the DA; then you have Bruce be his benefactor or sponsor, like in the Telltale Series. This would also be a way to “rewrite” Bruce Wayne in the sequel. I believe a great arc for Bruce in the second film could be him realizing that even though he hates the public spotlight and sees his true self as Batman, Bruce Wayne is more than capable of truly helping Gotham City and combating corruption and crime.

    • @justthinkingoutloud2538
      @justthinkingoutloud2538 2 роки тому

Interesting thoughts. I’m torn on Harvey, because I would absolutely love to see him in this universe, he fits too well, and TDK kind of missed the whole dual personality that defines him and makes him so tragic, but I honestly don’t know how they would make his transformation feel like a story we haven’t already seen.

    • @j2174

Two-Face as a puppet to Court of owls maybe as his two-face persona should representant his dual loyalties to justice but also to the darker secrets of Gotham. This will be the time when Bruce Wayne realises his Bruce Wayne persona has to be figured out and deal with the ”invisible enemies” as is the secret societies.
With such a plot you’ll need the birth of Bruce Wayne as the first movie is about what Batman needs to be.

I am SOOOOOOO glad this film focused more on his DETECTIVE side....because we all know he can fight and whupp aizz. This time...he has to SOLVE A RIDDLE/PUZZLE/MYSTERY....and that takes some SERIOUS thinkng....especially when dealing with somebody like the Riddler.
I'm also glad Reeves didn't put 8 or 9 super villians in the film. I'm just SO TIRED of seeing that. In my humble opinion, THIS is the Batman we have needed since 1989. This film is a strong sign of REALLY GOOD things to come....and I intend to be FRONT ROW for all of it. EXCELLENT work, Matt Reeves....just EXCELLENT.

I agree with the Joker info and breakdown you gave, I think Hush is most likely a nod and an easter egg since the Riddler had elements of Hush to him from the comic books in the first film and being that Falcone is a liar and murderer it's simply he lied to Bruce in that scene and was responsible for put a criminal in his employ to kill the Waynes. He didn't pull the trigger since Thomas saved his life and was a friend but could've hired someone to kill Bruce's parents after learnin g Thomas was going to the cops after the murder of the reporter.

So yes, the Joker scene is out and in it, this Batman has already put this Joker in Arkham but we don't know why yet. We DO hear Joker point out that the day Bruce's parents were killed was "their anniversary" (as in he and Batman's first encounter) so they could do the Joe Chill thing here, but only time will tell. One thing I can confirm is that this Joker will be all new, with a completely original Joker story, as opposed to those we have seen before on film or in comics.

Great review of many possible up and coming characters within this Reeves Batman universe. With regard to Robin, I do hope that they only begin the process in the sequel and only identify who he would be but I can’t help but think that this character played by the young man who plays Tim Drake in the Titans show could have a more complex background. He’s clearly conflicted with committing the crimes and only had half his face painted so he’s not a full gang member. He may be Tim Drake in this universe and going through a difficult time after his parents death or struggles. I wouldn’t mind seeing this version of Robin in this universe but if they’re looking to set up Nightwing probably not

This is such an underrated film. The whole singular idea, by Matt Reeves, that this is a man who is unhinged and unhealthily obsessed with fighting the criminal element at night who is constantly beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands and with his unlimited amount of vast resources at his disposal. All he sees in the criminal element, in this corrupt town that his family helped to build and found dating back to the late 1800s, are the people who killed his parents as a young child making him an orphan. So, he dons the mantle of that which he fears the most, in the form of the Batman, after training for the majority of his life to rid his city of the evil that took his parent's lives. He dosen't know who was responsible for killing Thomas and Martha Wayne so every criminal he sees, to him, is the criminal that killed his parents on that fateful night when he was only 10 years old. He is addicted to this mission, like a drug, so as both Bruce and Batman, he spends all of his time, trying to succeed in this impossible task he has set up for himself. That's why he never sees the light of day as Billionaire Bruce Wayne and is a social outcast and pariah. He is a man driven by vengeance; by revenge. By the end of this journey, as we see Bruce on a physical, mental, emotional and psychological level and transform from a young, naive, impatient man who makes mistakes still early in his career as a crime fighter we see him then become something else by the end...a symbol of hope, an ideal, a form of inspiration that makes criminals terrified to step out at night and commit their atrocities that makes Gotham City one of the worst places to call home. A city with a history and a foundation steeped in corruption and crime that ties back to the Wayne family and and their vast fortune. It also plants the seeds that will give him the inspiration to step out in the light of day to transform into the billionaire, playboy industrialist more interested in dating models and driving fast cars in order to hide in plain sight so no one would be able to distinguish Bruce Wayme is actually the Batman. A man consumed by vengeance who transforms into a symbol of hope. Obviously a film inspired by the comic book mythos and Arkham video game series and Batman animated series from the 1990s. Ironically, a film consisting of character arc transformations and worldbuilding moments that is actually one of the most faithful Batman comic book movies to the original source material in the 1940s. Such as Detective comics issue 27 from 1937 and batman issue 1 in 1940 created by Bob kane, Bill finger and Jerry Robinson. Then, the new 52 comics such as court of owls and Zero year by tomeu morey, john ottley, Jim lee, Scott Snyder. Batman year one by jim lee, David Mazuchelli and Frank miller as well as Batman: the long halloween and Batman: ego and other tales. This essay is lterally just scratching the surface of why it's actually one of the best batman films yet up their with the likes of the Dark knight from 2008.

Him not knowing will help him overcome that pain and trauma and grow to become more of a symbol of hope and hero to the people in this version of Gotham City. It gives it more substance that the criminals he fights on the streets at night, to Bruce as he is Batman, are the people who killed his parents when he was 10. So, it gives him more drive to pursue his vendetta of ridding the city of the evil that made him an orphan as a young boy.

This is only speculation, but this is what I immediately took away from the opening scene.... As soon as I saw the son wearing a red hooded outfit, I knew this child would end up becoming an orphan very soon, and he did! And, I knew that because of his Halloween costume. I don't think the red has to do with Robin's colors, because the bigger takeaway for me was not the red costume, but rather, the red hood that came with the costume!
I believe that he will grow up to become Jason Todd... More specifically, "Jason Todd Mitchell" with Todd being used as a middle name and not a last name. And, as he gets older, he will eventually follow the story of Robin. And, after the tragedy of Robin, he will don the red hood like the one that he wore on the night his father was murdered; and thus become the Red Hood. There were many fun Easter eggs in this film and I believe this is one of them.
I also don't believe that his costume has anything to do with the League of Shadows, as some have suggested; or, as others have suggested, a ninja outfit. It's not a Ninja costume because traditional Ninjas outfits are blue, black, or even white, but never red in any traditional sense.
Besides, a red hooded Halloween costume, in and of itself, is pretty strange for a kid's costume. If Matt Reeves decided to use this particular costume, then there had to be a reason for it...I believe that this has to come back eventually to the Red Hood. We have already seen that everything in this film has been carefully placed with purpose and design, and I believe this costume also has a purpose and design as well. I guess time will tell if I am right or wrong. Either way, it's really fun trying to figure where this is going to go!

I think the hush storyline brings up a character that Bruce knew before the murder of his parents, which aside from Alfred, doesn't have that relationship really with anyone else. Matt Reeves is setting up my dream for Batman films. I'm hoping for Hush next, then maybe Court of Owls. I want fresh villains on the screen to lead against Batman.

Sorry, but I can’t see Hush appearing here, this story drew on it enough that it would feel pretty redundant, I’m pretty sure the reference was just a respectful nod.

Poison ivy could come out like an eco terrorist type mr freeze could either be like the ice truck killer from dexter trying to rebuild his wife like a twisted Frankenstein or like a mafia hit man that the mob has blackmailed him after kidnapping his wife. Or by Hush that are squaring these villain off against Batman

Batman's green liquid is adrenaline and its not very fictional because if you know what it is and how adrenaline works, it is very accurate in real life to how it is portrayed in the film.

Personally, I’m never tired of the Joker, but I understand why someone would be. I feel like a Batman series without the Joker would feel a little bit incomplete, but it is ballsy. I’m really glad the movie addressed the Joker’s existence, and I can’t wait to see him in the next installments (maybe the third movie or the Arkham series)!

In answer to your question question of the penguins evolution to the new criminal leader, a possibility is in immediate aftermath of the flooding of Gotham, he could manipulate the city to his gaining popularity by feigning empathy and giving Gotham the clean up and regeneration it craves, instilling a sense of safety at last, while behind it all tightening his overall grip and dominance of the criminal underworld and corruption of those in power, to emerge untouchable from every corner of society, I think this idea could lead to unending branches of the story in future productions opening up to explore, hope that you would agree with me in the possibilities 🤡

    My Questions:
    * Where did the Riddler learn expert explosives handling and procurement skills - from mail bombs to van sized bombs? He's a forensic accountant by trade
    * Why did the Riddler flood Gotham - making life much harder for poorer people and likely creating new orphans too, if he is a champion for poor orphans . . .
    * Why does the Riddler dispatch his henchmen to kill Real the politician? She was publicly in favour of dissolving he Renewal fund, and Riddler was anti-the abuses that the Renewal fund had funded
    * Why did Riddler allow himself to be captured? He seemingly gains nothing at all from this move, even if Batman befriended him, he's now imprisoned. If he was going to flood Gotham he'd be able to plan many viable escape plans
    * Why didn't Riddler simply blow up Falcone's club, especially when it's full of corrupt police and politicians? Instead he creates a weeks long agonising set of clues on the off chance Batman actually brings Falcone to the one entrance that Riddler has his sniper rifle aimed at. This seems like a 100,000 to one chance Riddler would ever nail this particular shot

You have some really good questions. I saw the movie for the third time yesterday. Here’s my take on all of them, after thinking about it.
      1. In his final message to his goons, he thanks them for tips on detonators. It’s possible he could have been asking his mass questions on stuff like that. He’s certainly smart enough he could figure it out quickly.
      2. The one thing about The Riddler that always stood out to me was the fact he has an ego the size of Bruce’s bank account. He says he’s a champion for poor orphans, but The Riddler has always thought he was smarter and more superior to everyone else. So in his eyes, he’s the only orphan that matters.
      3. It’s possible Riddler thought she was just another liar. Sure, she says she’s against Renewal, but what’s to say she’s not secretly for it, at least in his eyes?
      4. He tells Batman “we were going to be safe up here!” in the interrogation scene. I don’t believe he intended for anyone to survive that night; why send out so many goons for one politician? Had Batman, Gordon, and Selina not intervened when they did, we’d probably have a higher body count. Perhaps The Riddler believed the outcome outweighed being imprisoned. Or maybe he just wanted to have the satisfaction of wiping out all of Gotham despite being behind bars. That one’s harder to say.
      5. This one I’ll give you would probably be more feasible. However, Riddler also says to Batman that he doesn’t have the physical strength to fight his way through goons and bouncers. It’s possible Riddler thought that it would be impossible for him to get a bomb in there on his own.
Anyways, these are just my two cents.

@@theimmortalrain867 Thank you for this input:
      1) Plot convenience, which I can buy
      2) Fair call here. It's just not very satisfying from a master-mind villain POV that he works against his own interests because of ego
      3) Riddler would be smart enough to engineer a scenario where Real had to reveal her true intentions
      4) If one really is a mastermind - then the obvious choice here is to set up a patsy to take your fall. This seems like a lost opportunity
      5) Hmm, yeah - he managed to mail a bomb to Bruce just fine. I'm more thinking if he observes Falcone's comings-and-goings, and he can make events happen that draw Falcone out of the club (e.g. the funeral), then all you need is a van parked near the entrance Falcone uses for the club - and BAM
