Mechwarrior2 animation is what started me on my whole career. Wanted to replicate it so I learned 3dstudio Max and Photoshop, went into graphic and then UI design and then into development, yada yada. Brings back some powerful memories. Great work.
As kid in 1996 when I first played this on a Win95 computer the intro blew me away. People don't know what it was like going from an SNES to seeing something like this.
I remember when I discovered the computer could play games that weren't the educational programs we were used to, and how messy computers from the Win95 era were on the inside. Cable management? Barely existed. My first MW was MW3 though, and I'd bounce between it and StarLancer.
The orginal cinematic (and the falcon/wolf intros) sparked an interest in me that flourished and never died. It was truly a joy to see this.. and big kudos for keeping the original audio.
Given that the Timber wolf in trouble was referred to as Bravo Cadet I actually think that a training ground was attacked that could indicate the longer cycle times and lack of other weapons.
This was pretty good. Maybe a little Picture-in-picture with the original? There are sparks and smoke and stuff which would make it better. Keep going! 👍
Wow! I really like this. Thanks for publishing the work. I would love to see you do the clan intros. I especially like the MW2 Jade Falcon intro. There was always something about that voice.
This is, by far, one of the best MechWarrior/BattleTech cinematics I've ever seen. The detail is amazing, and very fluid -- there's no jerkiness or stuttering to the designs, they move very smoothly. If there's anything I could critique, it would be only significant damage, the Thor dying that way was great but catastrophic damage like that would probably be a bit more visual. Not to say it isn't awesome -- it certainly is -- but that's the only thing I could possibly find "bad".
They were PPC or Particle Projector Cannons. Think basically a ball of high energy lightning that can melt armor and cause EMP disruption for a limited time.
I don't know what it is, but that is my favorite depiction of the PPC as a weapon. It just feels right the way you illustrated it. Also the Gauss Rifle looks awesome, too.
OMG This is f*** awesome!!! I'm gonna show this to my dad lol, we used to play MW2 31st Century when I was a child, he is gonna love this remake. Thank you!
Hoaggie Sammich No, Clan Warriors, mostly trueborns view contractions as a mangle of the English language and frown upon it. Cussing among the Clans (swearing) are epithets, like 'freeborn' (again, used mostly by trueborns), stravag, surat etc.
One would assume that given they used contractions, they were freeborn warriors, not trueborns. Freeborns tend not to care as much about throwing around contractions like their true 'cousins'.
Bravo Cadet [panicked]: He's gotta lock on me! He's gotta loc- Still one of the most chilling lines. Poor guy. He was just saved by Alpha Assault from the enemy...but there were two.
+Evil Ash he was less than 90m from the target so they couldn't be fired again, something to do with a inhibitor field that's activated on normal PPC's to stop damage to the mech that fired them. the ER PPC's can be fired at ranges under 90m but the mechwarrior runs the risk of damaging is own mech in the process.
same 'mech. Mad Cat is simply the Inner Sphere name, since the mech looks like a combination of a Marauder (MAD) and a Catapult (CAT). Anastasius Focht of ComStar came up with Mad Cat.
Excellent job! I appreciate the visuals, and how the first Timberwolf doesn't just completely disappear when destroyed, leaving the smoking boots effect.
Damn man, this brings back memories! I still have this on my Playstation 2, still fun even though the controls suck. But dude you should seriously consider remastering/remake the other Mechwarrior intros in the series, that would be totally awesome!
Wow!!! Thank you so much for this video! Its so cool... better then the old one, even though the old one was bad ass too. Appreciate your good work man! :D
even if we never see your take on the mercs intro I just want to say you've done a marvellous job on this and it brought back some great LAN party memories, thanks for taking the time to make it!
It is wonderfully done, in a more modern way. Kudos to whoever did this. I still prefer the more cinematic look and style of the original, especially the lighting.
Usually I really dislike these kinds of videos, but I must say you did an amazing job! I especially liked the death of the Summoner and the Timber Wolf (especially how the Thor breaks apart mid-air), both looked far more realistic than the original "disappearance beneath the veil of the fireballs" in the original video. Thumbs up and subscribed, and I hope to see more in the future!
@0rangaStang - its about 180 hours of work total. Theres no atmospheric effects (ground sand winds and so on), animated clouds, secondary characters (lizard or hamster (running out), half burried skull, and many many more details i wanted to add but did not. Its a pleasure for me to know that you guys love it like myself, thanks and dont forget to rate)))
PatSch no, anything but that! The original DOS version was best left alone, things were only made worse when it was remastered for win95 and the new 3D accelerated cards, and then came the abomination The Titanium Trilogy.
Pretty nice dude. I think you'd get more of an impact with the first Timberwolf being forced to the ground faster, or destroyed in a more brutal fashion. Still, it's nicely done. You should consider submitting that to Mektek or something as the intro video to Assault Tech 1.
Bro, that nostalgia...I remember this was one of the first PC games I played, I wasn't used to how stuff worked, I used to play instant action, thinking it was the only actual mode, and then one day I clicked randomly on the Clan Wolf symbol, and found out how much I'd been missing. Them arms look kind of skinny though, don't they?
Love it. Very nicely done. MW2 is my favorite game of all time - though I could be biased since MW2 played a huge role in making me a composer today. Scenes just needed to be darker!
The old intro was great. This is spectacular! I downloaded it to my computer along with some other Mechwarrior intros to show my nephew in order to introduce him to the world of Battletech.
This is cool. Would like to see you take it further.. impressions in the ground, more realistic reflections on the glass, more modeled interior. The atmosphere could use some work. But overall looks great!
Nice redo. I still think attempting to fire the PPCs again, and risking a overheat is a lot better idea than continuing to throw popcorn at that big mech.
@Anymuster Ah, that's not exactly what I meant. My fault for not articulating it better. When the first Timby gets shot, it kinda slows down as it falls and feels a bit awkward, IE a more realistic fall would be the speeding up as it falls instead of slowing down. I can understand you not wanting to have explosions going on everywhere though.
Years after this originally came out and made me want to pilot a mech I started to wonder why they have rookie pilots in a Clan Omnimech. Please do this
One would assume that, although they had already encountered the IS at this time, they did not have IS 'Mechs to use and for all intents and purposes, both Timber Wolfs could very well be second-rate 'Mechs, damaged in an earlier battle but too damaged to properly re-equip them with Clan tech so they used IS tech as a substitute. However, that is all my own theory about it.
Dude, That was BAAAAADDDDD AAAAASSSSS hahaha. Awesome job, Finish up the details if you can. Other than that Great work! Epic! 5/5 ect. Wish I Knew how to do stuff like this. Any hints on where to start to come close to doing anything like this?
Alpha Assault was a dingus. He's got twin PPCs, which surely should have cooled enough to fire again by the time he'd unloaded those machine guns. Plus, what was a cadet doing out in a battle?
Radio chatter:

Gave me goosebumps all over, especially having watched the original at least 500 times as a kid.
Only 500? 🤩
Waiting for it to load on my 468 computer running at 33 mhz as an eight year old...then suddenly being greeted by this was just phenomenal.
Mechwarrior2 animation is what started me on my whole career. Wanted to replicate it so I learned 3dstudio Max and Photoshop, went into graphic and then UI design and then into development, yada yada. Brings back some powerful memories. Great work.

"This is HQ to any avaliable units. We have Mechs down at nav gamma." ...goosebumps
this video is phenomenal, dude, nicely done!
Given that the Timber wolf in trouble was referred to as Bravo Cadet I actually think that a training ground was attacked that could indicate the longer cycle times and lack of other weapons.
Would also explain why they were using contractions. Sheer panic! Clanners don't use contractions.
Spectacular work, given that this is 12 years old
This is the way the intro went in my memory. Good job.
"Alpha Assault this is HQ what is your situation?" -Gets blown to bits- "Dead"
Still my Fav mech intro.
We need a Mechwarrior remake.
Jovan Mitrić mechwarrior 5 is coming out this year.
Nu... unfortunately it got pushed to 2019 u.u
@@DraconX3 I think you mean fortunately, since it needed more dev time.
In the crytek engine
Oh no
This was pretty good. Maybe a little Picture-in-picture with the original? There are sparks and smoke and stuff which would make it better. Keep going! 👍
I wasn't expecting much, but you did a good job and a very faithful recreation. Well done.
Wow! I really like this. Thanks for publishing the work. I would love to see you do the clan intros. I especially like the MW2 Jade Falcon intro. There was always something about that voice.
Aw man!
Fantastic job!
Unforgettable intro.
The good ol days.
I feel like a relic :(

i like the creative use of that radar screen from the mech 4 intro, really neat remake
The dual lasers taking out the flying Summoner was especially cool. Great job with this, man. Hope you're still doing this kind of work.
Thanks mate. Yeah pretty much continue to animate things. ua-cam.com/video/PJdIdnlygKY/v-deo.html
and then the lasers ran out of ammo lol
Those were ER PPC's.
those where PPCs actually
They were PPC or Particle Projector Cannons. Think basically a ball of high energy lightning that can melt armor and cause EMP disruption for a limited time.
I don't know what it is, but that is my favorite depiction of the PPC as a weapon. It just feels right the way you illustrated it.
Also the Gauss Rifle looks awesome, too.
the canopy blowing out on the timber wolf is a very nice touch, you also did a good job capturing the causal way the summoner.
OMG This is f*** awesome!!!
I'm gonna show this to my dad lol, we used to play MW2 31st Century when I was a child, he is gonna love this remake. Thank you!
frontline clan troops using contractions in their chatter? Can't suspend disbelief. ;)
Yea, but the audio is from the original intro movie, so not much can be done about that : /
I thought contractions were like swears
Who said they were front line? One even identified himself as Bravo Cadet
Have to admit that opening is still very cool :) Thank you for the remake, it brings back fond memories.
Very nice. The only thing I don't like is how the pilots don't sound clan at all, but I know that is the same as the original.
The fact it runs at 60fps really downs the drama from the original
Nicely done!
Bravo Cadet [panicked]: He's gotta lock on me! He's gotta loc-
Still one of the most chilling lines. Poor guy. He was just saved by Alpha Assault from the enemy...but there were two.
A re-imagining that actually lives up to the original. Good work!
Best remake I've seen so far
Okay THIS is the best remake ive seen.
Why didn't he just use his PPCs again, they had to have recycled by then (never realized it till now)
+Evil Ash he was less than 90m from the target so they couldn't be fired again, something to do with a inhibitor field that's activated on normal PPC's to stop damage to the mech that fired them. the ER PPC's can be fired at ranges under 90m but the mechwarrior runs the risk of damaging is own mech in the process.
As a Clan mech, this Mad Cat was most certainly equipped with ER PPCs and therefore would have been in range.
jlinkous05 Is there a difference between Madcat and Timberwolf? It was called Timberwolf in 2
They're both Clan and would both be equipped with C-ER PPCs if they had them.
same 'mech. Mad Cat is simply the Inner Sphere name, since the mech looks like a combination of a Marauder (MAD) and a Catapult (CAT). Anastasius Focht of ComStar came up with Mad Cat.
A background image and some soot special effects and you got a perfect piece here.
I said last spring im going to redo mechwarrior 2's intro... and then i saw this and that it was done better than i could do... good job sir.
Excellent job!
I appreciate the visuals, and how the first Timberwolf doesn't just completely disappear when destroyed, leaving the smoking boots effect.
Great job, man. That video makes a lot more sense than the original. You really know your stuff.
Damn man, this brings back memories! I still have this on my Playstation 2, still fun even though the controls suck. But dude you should seriously consider remastering/remake the other Mechwarrior intros in the series, that would be totally awesome!
This whole thing is amazing! Good work Commander!! o7
Wow!!! Thank you so much for this video! Its so cool... better then the old one, even though the old one was bad ass too. Appreciate your good work man! :D
thanks for the remake.. really appreciate it
No real Clan pilot would ever cry that way on comms 🙄
great work! I love it! nostalgia feels all around
Wow that was amazing I like how u added the radar from MW4 intro in there in the cockpit
Would love to see the old mech 2 mercs ending remastered in HD, loved watching that maddog running through dinju pass.
even if we never see your take on the mercs intro I just want to say you've done a marvellous job on this and it brought back some great LAN party memories, thanks for taking the time to make it!
I like how actual gameplay now is 100x better than the pre-rendered footage from this game. So many memories.
Sweet mother of pie, that was freakin' awesome! Excellent remake, sir!
fantastic animation
You some how made those mechs seem like they were made out of paper more then the original, amazing.
It is wonderfully done, in a more modern way. Kudos to whoever did this. I still prefer the more cinematic look and style of the original, especially the lighting.
While all of my friends were busy playing Zelda and Super Mario when they were kids, I was playing Mechwarrior like an absolute chad.
The one remake we need.
Awesome! Thank you for making this!
I give you props on remaking this and doing a very decent job with the animation.
At least your buddy could crawl out of the cockpit. You didn't get so lucky.
Nicely done, I didn't think the original could be improved but here it is
great work ... It's time for a MechWarrior 2 remake, isn't it? ... Name of the 3D-Software?
PatSch no, anything but that! The original DOS version was best left alone, things were only made worse when it was remastered for win95 and the new 3D accelerated cards, and then came the abomination The Titanium Trilogy.
in those old cinematics there was always one hit-blow :) they have so OP weapons or this mech were just without armour :)
Pretty nice dude. I think you'd get more of an impact with the first Timberwolf being forced to the ground faster, or destroyed in a more brutal fashion. Still, it's nicely done. You should consider submitting that to Mektek or something as the intro video to Assault Tech 1.
Okay, that was just sick! Thanks
Great re-make. If they would come out with a version of the game with the graphics re-vamped, I'd buy it immediately.
Man I didn't know there were others as passionate as me about this game, first PC game I've ever played
This makes me wish for a Mechwarrior 2 Remastered. WTF every other game is doing this, c'mon now!
I've been wanting to do this for ages. Awesome job!!
@Anymuster i noticed another thing off, its the wrong clan insignia on the Timberwolf close-up
THAT WAS AWESOME. please do more.
Wow brings back memories
EPIC! That was a good time.
Love it. Very nicely done. MW2 is my favorite game of all time - though I could be biased since MW2 played a huge role in making me a composer today. Scenes just needed to be darker!
Awwww... you forgot the skull he steps on in the very beginning... lol, Nice dude :P
The old intro was great. This is spectacular! I downloaded it to my computer along with some other Mechwarrior intros to show my nephew in order to introduce him to the world of Battletech.
There is a tabletop game. And "battletech fan" channel has a visual guide so you can teach the tabletop rules.
At 1:12, the Summoner's cockpit is "switched" into the other torso, just like the missile rack. Otherwise, amazing work! Keep it up ;-)
great stuff! the one thing its missing is the clan logo from the original timberwolf, then it will be completee
Holy shit -- awesome job, very well done.
fantastic! Its like how I remembered the original.
Ye go for a remake. I have so much sleepless nights with this game !
This is AWESOME!!! It's always bothered me how mechs always seem to be SO easily destroyed in most videos.
Actually they're not Awesomes. It's a pair of Summoners and Timberwolves. :p
Anyone else notice how the second Summoner's cockpit changes sides as it moved around the pillar?
This is cool. Would like to see you take it further.. impressions in the ground, more realistic reflections on the glass, more modeled interior. The atmosphere could use some work. But overall looks great!
this was awsume to watch , thank you
What is his situation?
TRULY BONED! THAT'S HIS FREAKING SITUATION!
Nice redo. I still think attempting to fire the PPCs again, and risking a overheat is a lot better idea than continuing to throw popcorn at that big mech.
I wish they could make good games like this again
if your PC is up for it, you can tell those kids goodnight because "MW" belongs to "MechWarrior" again ;)
Bad ass. MW2's intro was, in my opinion, one of the best ever made. The update is awesome.
Lol the radar scene from the Mechwarrior 4 vengance intro in the radar box.
Nice use of theradar from the mw4 intro :)
Holy shit this looks so damn good, loving it
SO....GOOOD,....love this re enactment
i really like the use of the radar from the opening of mechwarrior 4
Ooh ooh or the mechcommander intro! Or the Mechwarrior 5 intro! Or the Mechwarrior 3 intro!
Cool stuff - gave me chills. God I miss this game
Years after this originally came out and made me want to pilot a mech I started to wonder why they have rookie pilots in a Clan Omnimech. Please do this

One thing that bugged me about this was how slow it took for the PPC's to recharge.
nice
