I used your videos to buy the 997.1 Turbo Mezger when it was at 70k usd around 2019. Now I am sitting on a pot of gold. You know what I took it for a drive and I dont want to sell it. Its just a great car, right now going to the mall with the wife and there is space for the shoes she wants in the front or back. Truly a great car!!!! Thank you for helping me with these videos!!!!
Another exceptional analysis. I purchased my used 997.1 Turbo for $54k/usd three years ago. I added suspension mods and simple bolt-on's and the 997 Turbo becomes so much more. Reliable and relatively usable as a daily driver.
Killer deal. I got mine in Dec. 2020 for $58k.. 2009 manual coupe with 13,850 miles on it. The seller (private) was having trouble selling it because everyone was scared that the world was going to end. Funny because the moment I came looking it started to garner tons of interest.
I bought my 997.1 for $57k. It came with full leather interior, ceramic brakes, sport seats. It’s my daily driver I can’t say enough about it. Enjoy the road and be safe.
Great analysis. I bought my manual 997.1 turbo at the beginning of 2020. It will stay in the family for ever I hope. One point I would like to make is that the 997.1 has the Metzger engine which was developed for racing and is bulletproof. It also has heritage. I think with time this particular model will be the one to beat.
I bought a 2008 997.1 manual black Cabrio Turbo at the beginning of Covid with 40,000 km on the clock and have seen it’s price double here in Australia. I have no intention of selling it. It is a true classic with the Mezger engine.
Great perspective and analysis! I bought my manual 997.2 Turbo in April ‘20 after a long search. Glad I bought the dip, as this video confirms. Cheers and chapeau.
I just bought a 997.2 turbo manual Black with 50k miles in excellent conditions. This model very rare will be at double price ( in 6-7 years) than today if you are Lucky enough to find one for sale... it is the best 911 turbo you can buy today even better than 993 turbo as reliability is also very important factor to make it collectable for a car like this
Great video and very reassuring for me. I have a GT silver 2007 997 turbo manual with 16k miles. I happen to purchase the car in June 2020 for 88k. Man I got in at the right time. I have on nearly 10 Porsche and also on a 993. If any of you have either one of these cars, don’t let them go!
Love your videos. I appreciate the amount of work you do to put these together. I think another car that has done very well lately is the E92/93, i would love to see you do a breakdown on these. Cheers!!
I have a black 2008 convertible 997.1 manual with the Metzger engine. Only modification I’ve made is to the baffles in the factory exhaust by removing them and reprofiling the internal pipes. Motor now revs move freely and sounds much better. This is my ultimate Porsche. Will never sell.
I think there is also a side effect which helps to sustain the prices at this level, which is the fact that new car models are more and more expensive, year after year. I am not only talking about Porsche, but the overall car market is driven since ten/fifteen years by a constant increase of prices. If you look back in 2005, the high-end model of Peugeot family car war sold out for 33k€. Now, the same high-end model by the same manufacturer is sold out 15k more. It is even worse for Porsche : a 997 Turbo started at 139k€ in 2007, and now a 992 Turbo starts at 188k€ . I am not saying is the same car, just comparing the prices of two "high end" versions of a cars. And electric cars increase this trend. So it is logic that a 2007 used 997 Turbo, in 2021, is at a higher price than a brand new 5008... Especially when your are a sport car buyer, and not driven in your thoughts by the fancy 10" screen and the drive-assist packages. During decades, until the mid-2010s, you could buy a 911 for 20k€ in France. It does not apply anymor since then, where the entry ticket is around 25k for a 996, and will never drop below 30k for a 997 I guess. I cannot see the 997 TT falling below 50-55k€ in France in mid term, and I would say that it will stabilize around 65-70k€ in a ten years time horizon. Pending the future regulations that for me are the main risk, and the most difficult one to assess now, as there is no stability (I could drive my 996 until this year in Paris, I cannot anymore from 1 Jan 22 so for the 997, it will come soon...).
True, some manufacturers even announced that they will maintain the premium they are currently charger for new cars. In this video you can see at 08.30 the price development of new and used car during the last ten years: ua-cam.com/video/GdoVKlXDFOk/v-deo.html
Great video!! Love the price driver breakdowns, very helpful. Would it make sense to give some additional breakdown in the video (e.g., table) on what drives this (if black is better than gray, what is the best? How does it evolve over time? - if there is sufficient data, of course)? Next video ideas: - Mercedes GT cars incl SLS - Alfa Romeo Giulia QV (Has it bottomed?) - Update of the "cars that make you money" video
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. To do a more detailed breakdown we would indeed need to have a bit more data. Nevertheless, it's a good idea for a future video to see how the colors affect the price.
I bought a 08 Turbo 6 speed last spring for 69,000usd with 80,000 miles. It now has 95,000 miles. Was offered 90,000usd for it. was tempted to sell it. but I do not think I could replace it with anything nearly as cool for the money.
The 997 is the ultimate 911. Not the "fastest" but just PERFECT, analog, size, enough power and LOOKS. It's also a DRIVERS CARS so the MANUALS are priced right as automatics are truly a sad (but faster) solution that changed the market for the 911.
I would love to see something on the 3rd Generation Toyota 4Runner market. Surprisingly enough, it had become the most sought after Generation amongst enthusiasts.
Owned a 997 turbo s and traded up to a 991 turbo s in November 2020...much better car overall and in my opinion a better long term investment. Great video....thank you!
Always enjoy your analyses brother. Merry Christmas! How about we look at the Cayman market next? Base vs S vs GTS 981 Gen is the one I’m looking at now
@@castroorstad8215 I should also just reiterate that I never said the 996 is the BETTER car. I said that when you factor in a ~$30k price gap I personally think the 996 is a better bang for your buck. More analog, timeless design, and underrated.
The engine in the 997 is made out of very expensive metals. If we would make one today with same metals the car would have to cost 500k. You can tune the 997.1 to 1000 hp because of it. But get your wallet ready, this is a true rich boy toy.
that was outstanding. Your efforts are greatly appriciated! i'd be keen to see an analysis video on a Current generation G63 (2018+) as values are incredible solid and have been for the 12 months i've been watching here in the UK.
Very nice video, thanks for your work ! I got a question, what about the Phase 1.5 which is the 2009 with phase1 exterior and phase 2 interior (touchscreen ...) ? Did you came over any of those in your research ?
I enjoy your analyses of the 911 markets. I was curious - have you done any comparisons of the original MSRP versus current selling prices? This would indicate whether any of the options have any bearing on the current prices. Does a base turbo with few options perform any better or worse than a fully optioned turbo. Thanks!
Hi I would be interesting to see the market for GT2 cars (I mean 996 and 997 generations), despite being Turbo they are completely different car and so the market, much less GT2 were produced and much less offers. CheeRS from Poland
i am contemplating if I should sell my 2010 997.2 turbo. Someone told me the red stitching inside my car around the seats are great to have and not every 997 have them. Car has 21000 miles just a weekend car. Carmax offer me 75000. Should I sell or keep.
You are not taking into consideration the original production numbers… only 488 .2 manual cars were produced and they are the ones pulling the market up followed by the .2 S cars…. Most people don’t really understand that .1 and .2 cars are significantly different internally but look the same. .1 production was multiple times more. You should consider taking the .2 car and analyze on its own.
You can see the difference in price development between the .1 and .2 at 06:24 . As i highlight in the video, the manual .2 is so rare that there isn't enough data to split the .2 market by transmission type. This rarirty is already reflected in the price as the .2 and especially the .2 manuals go for a premium.
Think the 997 will be the next 993 in terms of attracting demand. It's truly one of the best porsche models ever, the last analog porsche, and has a timeless design. (Also predicting that the 996 and the 991 are going to go down as the worst models. The 996 is just too ugly and they screwed with the steering in the 991 and also made it longer but didn't really make it wider like with the 992 so it's dimensions are off. they also added turbos for all the .2 versions and you couldn't get the turbo with a stick).
GT# 991 cars are and were amazing but yeah everything under that is kinda meh. Still, I prefer the entire 997 range over the 991 and 992, except for the Targas.
Please make another video about the 997 market, im in the market for a 997.1(2005) base, its tiptronic, and right now its going for $35,900, and still its looking like the car isnt hot, it has been on the market for 55 plus days and has seen a price drop of 1000 dollars, maintaining low buzz on all the major sites ( only 13 saves on cargurus), do you think it would be reasonable to get this car for 27000 because that is what im willing to pay, i saw your video about how prices may have peaked close to a month ago, does that hold true?, or are prices on the increase again, specifically for the 997.1 automatic segment?, i would really appreciate an updated video on that, you have no idea how much it would help, either way, i love your videos!

AT 1:40, I would rather have the 997.1 over any of them because of the engine. Let's just keep that a secret though.
I'm so lucky to get my 2011 997.2 Turbo S for 79k with 59k miles which was high 2 years ago. Now I stole it. I'm very blessed.

Considering the high prices of the 964’s and 993 Turbos, what’s your thoughts on the prices of the 997’s in 10-15 years?

You are right as almost any 996 is substantially cheaper than a 997 counterpart (rightly or not).
There you are wrong. The 997 is a much better car. And in addition, the 996 is incredibly ugly. 👎

The 997 mk1 has the metzger engine
