If you have a C8 Corvette Stingray with Z51, you need to be aware of this option!

GM stated that these cooling ducts are for "track use" only! A few viewers brought to my attention. Road debris could get in the rotor and cause damages. Very rare, but could happen. Solution would be adding a screen to the rear duct's inlet or removing the 2 pieces that attaches to the rear lower control arm. Assemble it back on for track use
Thx for the video.I will install the fronts but not the rears.Ron Fellows driver's school recommends the rear for the track only because of possible road debris that will get them tore off.
Hi. Yes, I plan on removing the rear 2 pieces that attaches to the lower control arm and put back on for track use. You still can leave the piece that attaches to the spindle since it is away from the air stream.
If you read the owners manual, these cooling ducts are for Track use ONLY!!! Not to be used for street use!!!
If you plan on going 180 mph, these ducts will probably fall off, but I don’t see an issue with everyday driving. They are quite sturdy! I do hard acceleration and stop, but I don’t plan on driving that fast on the freeway
Any debris from street use can be forced into your rotors and cause big problems with the rotors and pads. If you read the owners manual it says for track use ONLY!!!
@@jackm6816I think chances of getting road debris in the ducts are very low. I’ll leave mine on and report back if I have any issues with rotors/pads.
@@jackm6816How about adding mesh screens to the air entry ducts? This will be a personal add-on.
@@mt8073excellent idea. Next time I have the wheels off, I’ll epoxy in some mesh!
Very interesting, beats the heck out just paper instructions. Looks like the frint should probably be installed for street use. Hold the back for install before tracking! Thank You!
Great plan! You still can install the piece that goes on rear spindle. Just leave out the 2 pieces that mounts to the lower control arm for track use only!
Statement from GM
“During the 2020 Stingray Z51 pre-delivery inspection, the lower and upper front rubber brake intake cooling ducts and the upper rear brake intake duct shall be installed on every Z51 C8.” Also as specified in the PDI, “the cooling ducts attached to the lower rear control arm are for track use only and should not be installed during the PDI.”
Thanks for the info! One of the guys suggested adding a screen to the rear duct, I think it’s a good idea. I’ll epoxy it in next time I have the wheels off
So looking at the fronts, where does the rotors get the air from? I know on my ZL1 there are ducts directly from the front of the car that redirect the air flow. Those on the C8 look like it smoothes out the air flow under the car. I would have thought there would be a more direct flow to the fronts since those generate more heat than the rears.
Not sure about non-Z51, but my Z51 came from the factory with a air vent that's sticking out of the inner fender, pointing at the wheel. It is plumped from the front bumper. The Lower control arm plastic piece I guess help directing the air to the Rotor.
👍. My Z51 C8 came with the front installed, the 2nd piece of the rear ducts wasn't.
Thanks for the comment. I guess the dealer gets to decide whether to install some of it or just left it for the owner to install!
Thank you nice job.
Thanks!
