It breaks my heart to see purple haired bride saying her husband is “too good for her”, & you can tell she really believes it. And unlike others stating their marriage won’t last, unfortunately theirs will last, because she doesn’t believe she can do better, & she’ll stay no matter what.

If a man isn't excited to marry a woman, that is a huge red flag. Both of these couples have been shacking up for years and already have children. These men don't appear to respect their women because they were already getting all the privileges without all of the responsibilities. So the wedding and marriage now means nothing to them. It's just to make their wives happy, or to satisfy other family and friends, but they would probably never have gotten married, if it were up to them. If you think about it the men don't even appear to respect their own family and friends by subjecting them to this horrible behavior.
1 Peter 3:7 KJV - Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Why didn't they just have the usual vows read by the officiant?? My husband is probably the shyest person I know, so we had the officiant read the usual, but we did write our own vows, we just read them privately, at home, with each other.
But, we got remarried on our 15th wedding anniversary on the pitons in St. Lucia. It was a much smaller ceremony, and he felt comfortable reading his own vows that he wrote and so did I!! It was absolutely amazing!! We're married almost 30 years now!

I've been to many weddings growing up and have even gotten the pleasure of attending one of my best friend's recently. And out of all those weddings I've been to, the couples that are still happily together, are the ones in which the groom either cried during his vows or gave a very emotionally heartfelt vow. All other ones in which the groom gave a "humourous" vow, the couple have separated or the groom is currently being disowned by my family for the way he's been treating his wife and we are quietly waiting for a divorce to free her of the emotional turmoil. We may not know these people, they might claim to know their relationship of 10+ years, but all I'm saying is that there is a pattern. And I can only feel sorry for the brides who feel like r husbands are "too good" for them. I only hope they can learn to love themselves more and see themselves as empowering.

I went to a wedding where I saw behind the scenes of both the groom and the bride getting ready. The groom hadn't written his vows and had his friends help him write something real quick while drinking beers. Meanwhile, the bride (who had planned and organized EVERYTHING completely herself) had written hers months ago, but was panicking while trying to get ready because apparently the groom had been upset her vows were typed and printed and told her THAT day she needed to rewrite them by hand.
Between directing guests where to go, ensuring all the moving parts were in place, putting the bouquets, decor and buffet together, and getting _herself_ ready, she absolutely didn't have time to hand write her vows. She was SO stressed, so I and her mother jumped in and hand wrote those typed vows for her. Big yikes.

I would also always defend him and actually believed what I said because I was so brainwashed.
So for people who say that we only saw 10 seconds and don't know enough to make judgement about their relationship... Just the fact that the brides, and not the grooms, came out to defend them and one said ''I don't deserve him" and the other "I was broken into pieces"... That's more telling to me than the actual vows themselves. I hope these brides will realize their actual worth eventually.

Married happily for almost 41 years now…our whole relationship is built upon our senses of humor. Yet our wedding was traditional vows (with the obey part included for both of us as that was our ONLY nod towards humor within our ceremony), BUT our reception is where we cut loose and friends who were in attendance STILL talk about how much fun they had at our reception. We became “marriage goals”in the rural area where we are from and to date one couple who are our friends and FOUR of our nieces/nephews have asked if it would be ok if they also got married on our wedding date because of the longevity of our marriage! And all five of those couples are still married. (Friends’ marriage is going on 39 years. Oldest niece to choose the same date will celebrate 26 years on our mutual date. The last one to marry on our wedding anniversary is another niece…she and her husband will celebrate seven years this year!)
Reserve the humor for your reception or whatever party you have to celebrate the wedding. The wedding vows should be light-hearted but they should MEAN something! You’re taking a vow-not doing stand-up.
I hope these marriages last IF the grooms treat the brides well. If these women are stuck in toxicity groomed to believe they don’t deserve anything more than what he’s willing to dole out then I hope these men go ahead and leave the women so they will be free to find themselves and live good lives.
    Never, ever settle, ladies. Never.

Honestly how many women defend their abusive partners until they are found dead? So why won't they defend their toxic partner who has zero respect for them, which IS exactly how these 2 men see their now wives. No real man would ever disrespect or degrade their partner like this in front of their family and friends on what is suppose to be the most special day in their lives. So yeah the women can defend the act but that also shows how much they self respect they have for themselves, when the man they say loves them so much tells everyone present that all she is to him is a s** doll and as long as they know their place he will stay with them. That's just my opinion as a man maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm right, who knows, all I know for sure is that I see more and more women with no self respect and it is sad after how hard women have fought to be seen as more then just baby machines and home cooks.

The "female rage" is so true. As women, we all know that one friend, one sister, one mother, one female colleague who would do anything for her partner, who has her whole heart set on him, and yet he gives so little in return.
But this (sorry, not sorry) first piece of garbage of a guy dares to say he's going to smack her a**? This is problematic on so many levels and not just a joke at all. He didn't understand how much she meant her words and the fact that he wasn't thinking about her and how his words would make her feel shows that there wasn't a single cell in his brain. Yes, I took that sentence personally on a meta-level as I believe many women have been or are in that situation. She didn't deserve to get such a weak response to her love. And it hurts to see others go through this. Maybe this is projecting, but still a but of truth we can all see in this situations.
And the second piece of garbage with his obscene vows is a human disgrace. If the purple-haired lady is happy with him, so be it. But still, he could have said some nice things about her. Seeing other clips of beautiful vows, won't let me accept anything different.
(Of course, this situation also exists for men, but this is about us women.)

Everyone complains about rom-coms giving us unrealistic expectations about love and romance. But there is also a very common trope that romanticize disrespect and rudeness in relationships - when partners (one partner or both) always put down, insult, prank, "humble" and humiliate each other. I've seen it multiple times in movies, tv shows and books. In real life as well. Most people praise this type of behavior as healthy, wholesome, a sign of true love and good humor. A lot of people who outraged with these vows are the same people who call celebrity couples trolling each other on twitter or couples in tv shows always insulting each other "charming" and "couple goals". Let's be honest, if it was a Ryan Reynolds' tweet to Blake Lively most people would've found it "cute" and "romantic" but as some random guy's wedding vows it's disgusting and red flags. We praised this kind of behavior left and right for many years and than got extremely mad because someone had the bad taste to choose a very inappropriate time and place to express it. I personally know several quite young couples who literally play-act British tv show "Vicious" in their relationships. I don't get it but it's not my place to judge as long as everyone is happy and on the same page.
