Great pick ups. Yes whenever I go there to look at books I am exhausted from going through their boxes. I am amazed that I never make a dent covering their inventory and I always run out of time! I suppose that’s a good thing. That means “Return Trips!”😅
Disorganized stores make me crazy! It might not matter if I had all the time in the world and could look through boxes all day long. But I don’t have the time and as you said, it’s exhausting. I’ll still do it but I’ll stop sooner. And I can’t believe you found the only 2 issues of Wolverine I don’t have. It was almost like getting them myself.
Those Deathlock books are known as "Prestige Format".
When I was a teenager I'd hunt for hours through disorganized boxes. Now that I'm older, it drives me nuts.

Hey Mike! Another thing with the Spectacular Spider-man #158 is that Cosmic Spider-man had it’s own card in the Marvel Universe Series One collector cards, and even mentioned this issue as the first appearance.

that wolverine 10 has always been one of my favorite covers of all time. When i was younger i had like a thick plastic case that you could put a comic in and that’s the comic that i always had in that case hanging on the shelf lol. All the others comics only got the bag and board treatment
I mean looking at books that are already organized is very nice and easy to find what you’re looking for. But going through a dollar bin not knowing what you might find is fun as well!

Your best pickup for me that you grabbed was Wolverine #8, The business has a copy we are saving to get graded, but I've always wanted one because of those 2 great characters doing the "dapper Don look",lol Keep it up, everybody's watching :)
To answer your question, I don't even like it when the dollar bin is unsorted. I understand why it isn't though, because the owner wants you to go through the whole box so that maybe you'll see something you otherwise would not have noticed. I'm still torn on the idea of putting all of the spin-off titles of a character together (Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.). That can be helpful, but I am slightly annoyed when I go to "A" and can't find "Amazing Spider-Man" because it's filed under "S".
I agree! I love hunting through unorganized long boxes of comics. I love the adrenaline and the excitement that I feel when I find even a minor key, or just a great cover. Keep hunting!!
I am glad you had a good black Friday shopping for books. Unfortunately, my comic shop did not have too much stuff aside from stuff that I already had. He did lower his dollar bin to $.50 though which was kind of cool for my little guy.

Awesome fines again Mike. Love the New Mutants comic as well as the Spider-man comics you pick up. I have that New Mutants issue myself. To answer your question, In an antique or flea market place, I don't mind the randomness.It makes finding that gem of a comic feel like a true treasure hunt. But in a comic book store, I need things to be in order. Difference between collectors and non collectors of comics. The last "new" comics I got were Swamp Thing #2 from 1974, Saga of Swamp thing #34, Justice league Dark #1-10, and New 52 Phantom Stranger #1. I'm still on the hunt for X-men #130. Keep the good hunt Mike ;).

I was at a convention last year and a vendor had brought in a bunch of longboxes that were totally unorganized. In exchange for taking the time to dig, the vendor was offering the books at the prices he assigned ten years ago. Found a ton of great stuff, including some keys, for dirt cheap.
I absolutely love to dig through long-boxes like that!!! The thrill of discovery I guess and I see cool covers that I would not normally go flip through if organized. But I can see how it can be exhausting. You can easily feel like you're not gonna see everything and that can cause anxiety for some. Real good pick-ups Mike, love me some Wolverine! I think I have multiples of some of those books , I can't help getting them when he's one of my favorites. I use to have that Deathlok series, don't know what happened to it. I need to pick that up again sometime.

Mike! You passed up on Walt Simonson Thors!!! Though the Deathlok books you picked up are awesome. Also you need to read the Black Orchid prestige mini series that came out back in the 80s.
No offense, I don’t know how any fan of comics can pass anything Walt Simonson has worked on let alone his “Thor” run of books…
Disorganized long boxes usually means potentially to save on the comics you find in it. But it's not always guaranteed. Either way it's fun to look through them and find a key issue.
It was great to see you and your son out digging together creating memories that he may in the future do with his children your grandchildren. I like the wolverine hulk in tux book the best I've looked around for it can't find it yet but I'm going to buy it when I do and hopefully I'll get the kind of deal you did.

Always fun to watch you hunt!! That DAREDEVIL (#223?) Was the one (SW II) where The Beyonder gives DD back his eyesight.. GREAT ISSUE, even though SWII was not reaiiy anything special ( Too many tie-ins!) It was a light green cover. Hope you can find it...
That’s the way to go, if you’re starting out as a new reader, cheap buys. I recommend people to go there.
I believe they've released a few Red Sonja issues in the Legenderry universe too. Most recent one released in the last couple weeks.
I totally agree on the Wolverine Comic. Specially, because if we consider a flashback as a first appearance, then we would have to consider origin stories as first appearances also. Which we know that’s not the case, a first appearance is the first time a character appearance in the Marvel, comic book universe.
Loved the Deathlok 1-4 mini series pick up! I remember it fondly when it came out. Sadly, they couldn't keep up with the quality in the regular series that came out shortly after. I don't mind when boxes are not organized, as long as the dealer doesn't do something silly like 'Oh, that doesn't belong there at that price' when you go to buy it. Digging through cheapie bins is all part of the fun!
I'd much prefer a comicbook shop to have their back issues in order rather than having books randomly placed with other books especially books that are not bagged or boarded or sometimes bagged but not boarded.
But sometimes at small comic local shows when some vendors may have everything randomly disorganized which i don't mind i too sometimes enjoy a little surprise on what i might find especially in $1.00 dollar bin finds when digging for through some comics.
I guess it's 50/50 in a way.
The best pickups out of all of them in your haul to me will have to be the four part series of Deathlok. Never knew all that time when seeing that painted comic of Deathlok was by Joe Jusko, wow. He my favorite Marvel painter of all time back in the early to mid 90s when my brother and i used to collect some of the Marvel Masterpieces along with Marvel universe series cards 1990-1993.
Which was how my brother and i got into Marvel comics more as i myself as an artist enjoyed drawing some of the characters from the Marvel universe series cards. Which i still have some of my original 1990-1991 cards especially the Jim Lee X-Men card of Psylock to tbus day, they're sort of beat up but I've had them for over 30 years now.
My personal classic collections along with my comics.

I just picked up that Wolverine 10 this weekend. Went to an out of town shop and traded some books for it.
Looks like you passed over ASM 239 newsstand, the second appearance of Hobgoblin. Been looking for that one for a long time.
Love digging thru rando stuff especially when I'm the first one and they haven't been raided of all the good stuff. 😂

Disorganised stores are great when I have lots of time to methodically go through boxes. But if I'm short of time or after specific comics then I'll only visit stores that have their books properly arranged.
The Bloodstone Hunt is one of my favourite 1980s Captain America storylines, along with the Deathlok story in 286-289.
I really like the Jackson Guice/Scott Williams art in the first two issues of the 1990 Deathlok miniseries but unfortunately they were replaced by Denys Cowan and Rick Magyar in #3, whose art I find too sketchy, and Cowan and a several inkers in #4 which ruins the artistic consistency. Shame as the story works well.
Given Joe Fixit's size, his suit definitely did not come off the peg, made-to-measure for sure.
Not a deatlok fan myself but i do have astonishing tales 31...bernie wrightson did the cover which is why i picked it up. Cool pickups Mike

“Exhausting” is a good word to describe looking through boxes of random comics like that. That said, those are some nice Spidey books you got there.
I used to not mind digging for titles. IF the seller/s had them at least seperated by companies and by Ages. Like Golden, Silver, Bronze,etc. That ASm story is great I always loved Firelord too. But hated they mde him a joke. By being a hot head beside's literally wise. Spidey gets pissed off at him. And tricks him into a location. The best part is hen the Avengers go out. Thinking they have to assist Spidey. Herc fought andbecame friends ith Firelord too in issues of Thor. So their shocked at the end when they arrive. Firelord is knock outlaying in the rubble of a building. Great pick up! Grew up a HUGE PP/ASM fan. But loved Nova vol#1, #1-#12 easpecially too.
I would spend way too much time going through those bins. Great finds, the Wolverine 10 is one of my favorites of that series and of course the issue 8 is amazing!
I do believe the Deathlok series # 2 cover was done by artist/painter Bo Hampton, not Bill S. The initials looked like Hampton’s and not Bill S.

I love organized books if I'm looking for something specific, but yeah, I love going through unorganized boxes and searching for treasures. Those Wolverine issues are awesome reads, and I love those covers. Really nice pulls, Mike!
I just won an auction on ebay for that Wolvie #8 cgc 9.8. for a really nice price at $262. Have to get #10 next. I think they fight again in Wolvie #41?
The "first" label is thrown around so much. Feels like lawyer jargon anymore. 😂
If you take away the dollar sign it brings. You can have a blast doing a deep dive into comic lore. We'll at least for me. The story always comes first when I think of comics. Second the art and lastly if it's a true "key".
