Just signed up for my first 100 miler and been watching significant reviews on this and other watches. This has been the most helpful video yet and cemented my decision! Thank you sir!!
@@ChaseTheSummit can you provide us the link to the screen protector. I agree with the durability of the watch....hopefully they can change the material to make it more durability and at same time keep it as light as this watch....the fenix 6 was on sale during father's day for $449 would you have still jump on the fenix 6 for that price of the 945 for $499 which i was able to find??
@@ChaseTheSummit hi ! would you recommend us to buy a screen protector for this watch, if yes do you know any good ones to recommend me since its an expensive watch?
The Inreach and screen protector is a great tip - Pondering about the 945: currently trying to justify a 945 (to my family and me) as I'm hitting a wall with my metrics on Apple Watch
If you are serious about your running, do it. I have an apple watch series 4 and just upgraded to Garmin 945. The apple watch is a great smart watch, however, for running it does not even come close to my garmin 945. So worth the upgrade.
Sports watches are getting better. They have a lot of interesting functions needed in sport. For a year I have been trying to run regularly and such a watch would certainly be useful to check my progress.
I´m triathlon enthusiast and the time to renew my 920xt has come (sad). I've tried by all means to NOT get this watch mainly because of the big price tag it has!!!, but it simply has ALL the features every triathlete needs. MUSIC was a big turn down from Coros (great battery life though). The new Polar Grit X looks great, has a great app, great battery life, but misses music too!!!. This watch has Swimming HR monitoring, Body battery (wich I find to be pretty cool feature), adaptation, battery life and every possible thing any triathlete needs. So, time to break the bank.... Great reviews! I'm a fan of this channel!!!
I feel like I need to meet some running goal in order to justify owning a watch this cool. Maybe just signing up for a big race will be enough. The navigation seems awesome. Nice review!!!
Haha! I think you're right. Just sign up for a lofty goal and you'll be shopping for a $600 watch. I'm definitely not an elite runner, or endorsed by any of these companies so I'm paying real money for them. Just an unhealthy addiction to fitness electronics and gadgets 🤷♂️
How are those bezels and size though in person? I have the 245, and it's been amazing esp the bit smaller size.. i've been thinking about an upgrade but not sure if the 945 is overly too big to be wearing all the time like my 245 and if the bezels make it look weird.
I have owned FR 935 for more than a year now and I love it. FR p45 is the next level but for Ultra runners, a 935 is very close and arguably higher value.
Great video like usual! Congrats! I would have a question ... What would you choose between Forerunner 945 and Fenix 6x Pro, strictly in terms of functions? For me, the weight of the watch is not a problem ... I'm not an ultramarathon runner but I run after a training program and I also use my bike a lot ... Thank you very much!
They're extremely similar. Since this video Garmin has issued a bunch of firmware updates to the 945 which almost make it the same watch in a plastic housing. The only thing its missing is power modes and map themes. If you don't mind the heavier weight the Fenix 6 does offer more functions... but the 945 is no slouch! Thanks for watching.
Brief, concise and outstanding review about Garmin Forerunner 945. It tells the major pros of the GPS watch for ultra Marathon runner and needs a better glass material.
Nice video! Do you need to pair it with a smart phone to get the most out of Forerunner 945 or does it work on its own? I was wondering if by leaving your mobile phone at home you loose any of the functionality of the watch? I run usually distance up to 15 miles but I am gonna use it for bike rides too. Hope to swim more as well;) I never had a smart watch before and I wonder how it will work.. Thanks!
You don't need to have your phone with you to use the 945. It has built in mapping, off-line music storage, etc... that all work independently. You'll only need the phone app to sync to Garmin Connect and to configure various aspects of the watch.
Great video! Do you have one to explain more in depth on how to create a hike trail in gps and also how to zoom or move the map around. My review of the 945, i love it! I would like for it to not have the phone around for the emergency signal. That is a little drawback for me. When i run or hike, i like to go without my phone. The downside is the emergency feature wont work without a phone. The last thing is touchscreen. When i am tired i forget which button does what sometimes lol. Overall great watch and Garmin really stepped it up. When is your watch up for winning. Great video! Thanks
Amazing video. Could you please do a Garmin Connect vs Polar Flow review? In terms of data metrics etc. This would give folks an idea as to what platform they want to be on.
@@ChaseTheSummit Yes I think I am deciding between a Garmin 945 and Polar grit x but cannot make up my mind. I want more metrics on things like recovery etc and sleep tracking. Please let me know your thoughts. BTW your videos are very helpful.
Depends what you're looking for. The Fenix 6 looks like a fantastic device! I'm assuming most of the new features will appear on the 945 via a firmware update soon! The 945 is not quite as durable as the Fenix watches. So if you're rough on your devices that may sway your decision. However the 945 is much lighter and lower profile... its basically a plastic Fenix 6. Check out the link in my description for my full in depth review where I compare the 945 to the Fenix 5 plus! Hope this helps.
@@ChaseTheSummit True. I wonder if I just stick with my FitBit which is doing what I need, but just wanted to try Garmin. Do you know anything comparable with Apple's EKG test on Garmin watches?
I've been using a Suunto (Ambit and Spartan Ultra) for the last 6 years and looking to replace wit either a Suunto S9 Baro or Garmin Forerunner 945. Any recommendations on what I should chose?
It depends what you want or need. Personally I prefer the 945 as it has wayyyy more features (maps, music, training metrics, garmin pay, etc...) and better battery life in regular GPS mode (35 hours vs 25 hours) I've also seen a lot of reviews that have had issues with heart rate readings on the Suunto 9. However, if you like the simplicity of the suunto ecosystem that might be a good fit for you. Not everyone likes all the bells and whistles that Garmin packs into their watches! In that respect it might be worth looking into the Coros Vertix too. I'm in the process of reviewing that watch now! Thanks for watching!
I am the USCA National Marathon Men's Unlimited Kayak Champion in the over 70 age group. I spend hours training on creeks, streams, rivers, and lakes in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic area of the U.S. When I am paddling on the waterways can I follow the route I am taking on the Garmin Forerunner 945 like it is advertised you can see when you are running or biking on a roadway?
I think this is possible but you may need to create your course using "freehand" I dont think garmin connect will automatically follow waterways. Hope this helps!
Dave crazy question, once have a playlist (Spotify) music playing. Then you now go to trail running and start your run with all the stats as running, can you get back to music? Say change a playlist? I've owned watch for awhile but never usually use music on watch (usually thru phone).
Sorry Dave, because you are the expert and I can't find the answer in the manuel. When you've done an Activity, and want to do the Activitiy again by selecting Navigation, Activity: Is it possible to get Turn-by-Turn navigation (TbT) Or is the option for TbT navigation only available on Courses? So you have to convert the Activitiy to a Course?
Great review! I appreciate the feedback on the con of the watch. I just recently purchased the 945 and have been kicking it back and forth about getting the screen protector. This is my first smart watch and the large majority of my training is running, but I do know how to track all of the great features this watch has to offer. Either way, I really got a lot out of this video, thank you!
Hi! thanks for watching the video. This is a unisex watch but it is on the larger end. It's a 47mm diameter watch which is close to 2". I've seen plenty of women wearing similarly sized watches but it may not be for everyone. Hope that helps!
Climb Pro only works while "navigating" a route. It needs to know what the terrain ahead looks like to give you the information for Climb Pro. You can either load a course from Garmin Connect or create a course on the watch itself. Both methods work with Climb Pro. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
@@ChaseTheSummit thx! good content, think i do the switch from the 245 to the 945 (stravasegments, altimeter) but a nooby question: if i do that navigation, does this "count" as a run afterwards - or do i always have to start a run beside the navigation i start parallel?
Ha Dave. How can I put the turn by turn navigation get visible when I am a course? Is also possible with an Activity? Is turn by turn navigation only while Running or Walking?
You can do this by going into the navigation settings by long pressing the middle left button and choosing a course or POI. Navigation is supported in all outdoor activites.
I do Ironman training. And my battery doesn’t last longer than 9 hours. I am not listening music during training . Do you know how to make battery last at least 15 hours? I am using chest HR strap garmin.

Solid review... I can relate to your comment about the fenix 5 being too heavy and worrying about it around the kids... 945 is a better fit.
THANK YOU for covering the navigation in more detail! Great video.
