3 months ago I bought the Garmin fr 935.
I chose this watch instead of the fr 245 because of the barometric altimeter.
I'm very happy of this purchase!!

The maps feature on the 945 is brilliant. I (used to) travel alot with work to places I wasn't familiar with and that feature guided me through some beautiful landscapes that I would have otherwise not found. It's a brilliant feature.

6:40 Keep in mind there are fields you can download that aren't stock.
7:55 One of the best things about the 935 (and 945?) is that you can charge it in the middle of a race and it still records. That is definitely a feature that should be mentioned as most watches cannot do that. That feature can be make or break for people who focus on 100+ mile races.

The 935 has a Mediatek GPS chipset, whereas the 945 has a Sony chipset. That’s the reason i bought the 935! I have found that the 935 works best in GPS only mode (which is no longer the default setting). Run pace accuracy works great on the 935; not so good on the 945 (or so I’m led to believe). I bought the 935 tri bundle, it’s great value.

Surprisingly to me, one of the best features that I’ve enjoyed on the 945 is the built-in maps. Great for hiking as well as running in unfamiliar surroundings. I’ve used it several times to get back on track or check that I’m heading towards a pre-saved campsite when there’s a fork in the path :)

Dave you nailed it in another user comment: Garmin is going wild with different versions of watches, separating them with just a few features. Personally I’d like to see them go more the Coros/Apple route with fewer watches with updates across all versions!

    Great video Dave thanks.
Garmin's pricing is really strange .
In the UK the 935 bundle is £458 /$636 🇺🇸
    Watch only 935 is £325/$452
    HRM Swim £70 /$97 ish
    HRM Tri. £80 /$111 ish.
Garmin 945 you get as low as £329
So you could sell both chest HRMs and buy a HRM Pro which is the same green as the strap and accents on the bundle watch and put around £46 in your pocket.
Making the bundle watch 935 just over £400.
As for would I want one, maybe if a ran more than the 10k I do now and needed better battery life.

Thanks! I often wonder the same thing. I kind of miss the days when you either bought a "Forerunner" or a "Fenix" and there weren't many sub models. Awesome video! Totally agree. The 935 does all the stuff you need and skips all of the crazy stuff (Garmin Music) that I never use. Only major issue that I had with the 935 is water damage to the internal thermometer which also kills the altimeter on the watch. It was a pretty well known issue on that watch and I think they quietly corrected it on the 945. 🤫

Dude! Every time you say “Forerunner” before a model number, it sounds like you’re saying “400.” So, 945 ends up sounding like “400-9-45” (its most noticeable to me when you’re referencing the 945 for whatever reason but still sounds that way regardless of any model number you reference, in any of the comparison videos I’ve watched). As a 945 owner, I can assure all out there that some features mentioned in the 945 (widget glance, training status pause, suggested workouts etc) were not there from the original launch. It was through firmware updates that gave the 945 more features over the 935. So besides hardware differences, it's actually up to garmin engineers to do updates for 935 which they do not do as extensively when compared to 945.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому

Correct, I was viewing this from a 2021 perspective. Garmin won't add these features to the 935 because it's not a "current product" anymore. The same will happen to the 945 once its successor is released unfortunately. Firmware updates will be released to FIX things. But nothing will be ADDED. Thanks for watching!

In most cases you can find the 745 and 945 for the same price! The 745 will probably receive updates longer but I'd still go for the 945 in terms of features if you don't mind the larger size.

Garmin will keep the 935 operational for the foreseeable future but it's unlikely they'll add new features to it. For example, you can still buy an old Garmin Fenix 1 from 2010 and it will still sync with Garmin Connect but obviously nothing new is added. The 945 is the most recent now so it will continue to get more features until whatever comes next is released. The 935 is still a great watch by todays standards and at its current price. I just wouldn't expect anything new to come to it. Hope that helps!

I recently "upgraded" to the 945 as the optical HR sensor on my 935 cracked to the point of causing strange jumps in the wrist HR values. For me, there is one big problem -- my eyes are no longer 30 years old. For activities, I define many data screens with two fields each. For some reason, Garmin uses a smaller font for the 2-field layout on the 945 than they did on the 935. They also did this for the main watch face time. Even the custom watch faces seem to use these fonts. The new features are not worth this -- I wish I had rather gotten a new 935. Unfortunately, these Garmins still seems the only light watches with enough battery life for a 15-hour ultramarathon.

Without using a stryd foot pod and a chest heart rate monitor it is not useless for my running training. Yes and No. Software isn't free. When they add things like Pace Pro, Body Battery, etc... it's licensed from the developer which costs them money on a per-unit bases so they need to increase the price to cover it. Think of it like buying a new laptop that just comes barebones windows vs one that comes with MS Office, and a bunch of other stuff installed for a price bump. There's also other limitations in terms of hardware like how much storage is on board, RAM, and CPU power. That's definitly an option. I suppose the argument could be made that you could pick up a used 935 for somewhere in the $200-$240 range as well! In this video I just wanted to highlight the differences in 2021 now that the 945 has received a bunch of firmware updates. Thanks for watching!
