When I see architect work like that, I understand the difference between home and place to live. It also speaks volume for the architect who brings humanity and craft into the project. A very good choice for Harriet ❤

Liz described herself and Alex as being part of the 'emerging architect contingent' but I am here to tell you both have worked at highly esteemed Tasmanian architectural practices doing fabulous domestic and commercial architecture here in the state. Both are award winning, both at university and in their careers. I had the pleasure of working with Liz as a draftsperson many years ago when she was straight out of uni and I can attest to not only her wonderful design & practical skills but also her lovely nature. So... very pleased they have launched a practice together. All the best Liz & Alex!

It's wonderful to see a project that is not driven by ego of the home owner or the architects, and is instead based on quality of life and balance with their surroundings. Very thoughtful approach and consideration in use of materials - budget-friendly, long-lasting and yet not a compromise in function or aesthetic outcome.

Wanted a beach house but didn’t like the beach. Boom. Love that! I grew up on the water and for a couple years we had a constant east wind straight at the house and it drove me nuts. I like being near the water but not on the water. This idea is awesome

This is such a beautiful home!! Amazing that the door's threshold is 200 hundred years old. Beautifully done integrating a heritage home with a new build.

You should be so, so proud! This feels so respectful: of the original historic cottage, of its owner, of the setting, of the materials, and of the environment. The sculptural walls and vaulted ceiling with the rising wall of green behind give me the impression of a catacomb or historic cellar but with a wonderful connection to light and the outdoors. I really like it and am deeply envious of Harriet. Thank you for sharing the space with us all.

Love it! Love it! Again, at last a REAL HOME! Superb design to the brief. A solid, long lasting " home for life". Nothing showy or bling. Simply solid and sound. Yes a home to live in, grow in and feel at home. Brick, timber and nature literally out of the back door.
    This is something very special.
    Thank You for sharing.

I'm never disappointed by the designs on the LOCAL PROJECT. And I'm always deeply inspired, and confounded by these designs. In this episode, how the "materials sit together"😍love that. What draws me to this channel is that I know that I'm always going to be surprised, inspired, and moved by what I see.
I always love the genius ways in which all of the projects make outdoor and indoor spaces intrinsic. And I never forget that the film makers in these episodes is also passionate and skilled in their creations.

Its so lovely, I had to watch the video twice (or more). The choice of materials is outstanding! Especially the kitchen tile! Still confused about the wall garden being vertical though which is a fantastic idea but why? Being a small space wouldn't you want to use every inch of foot print? (also, Feng Shui would tell you its bad for your chi to have front door in line with rear cos it can run out! lol) Still, very enjoyable to hear how you arrived at design choices. Very warm and calming spaces. Thanks very much.

Please note that using bricks as indoor flooring is *not* handy: It is cumbersome to clean (cracks, crevices & gets dusty easily). You cannot easily mope or use a vacuum robot on this type of flooring. Please research maintenance possibilities beforehand if you are considering it for your projects. It will save you issues down the road.

I enjoyed the use of brick flooring indoors and extending it to joinery. However, the bricks do not flow at the same level to the outdoor area. This was a missed opportunity to have the same material indoors and out in a way which extended both areas. Instead the brick step, with different orientation of the bricks, breaks the flow and makes both areas smaller. It’s also not ideal for aging in place

4:52 I like the brick aesthetic, but a detail like this seems like a big thermal bridge - the interior floor is directly connected to the outside. I assume energy performance was not a consideration in this project.

IDK how I feel about the texture of brick as a floor. I Feel like it would be uncomfortable or would need to have rugs down everywhere covering up the brick, defeating the purpose of the brick on the floor as a design element

The color tone is unified and harmonious, and the space is handled very comfortably. However, the tiling method used for residential materials is not practical. For those who love cooking, using mosaic tiles for the kitchen countertop is too time-consuming and labor-intensive to clean. Unless I have a housekeeper, maintaining cleanliness is a challenge.

The house is quite esthetically pleasing but completely impractical. The brick is a dirt magnet, porous and rough so impossible to clean unless it's sealed. The wood slats arch, while beautiful to look at, is impossible to clean, dust and insects are going to get in between the slats and I don't see anyone climbing a step ladder with a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the ceiling and walls.
